FiddAuthor Fest Day 7 - Inspired by Journal “Fiddleford, these are impressive inventions! These could be of great use. You should patent them!”

“Aw shucks, Ford, they’re just little ideas I doodled when I had the time.”

Uh…. I originally had something else for this day, but you know what? I really like Post-Weirdmageddon FiddAuthor, and the whole conversation between them during that part was so pure. I just had to draw it! I decided to try out the watercolor medium for this particular piece, which turned out okay I think ^^

And that concludes my FiddAuthor Fest series! It’s been fun to host! I had a great time getting to know everybody from the FiddAuthor community and seeing everyone’s amazing work!

Learning to Breath

Summary: Ford hoped the first time Fidds pulled his hair out in his presence would be the last time.

Characters: Fiddleford Mcgucket, Stanford Pines

Pairing: None, you can see it as pre fiddauthor if you want and tag it as such but its not really.

Warnings: anxiety attack, self harm (hair pulling).

Looking back on it nothing about this day seemed particularly out of the usual but at the time he felt surreal. Like something that would be different years down the line and this would just be a memory to look back on.

It was coming to the end of the week, neither Fidds nor Ford had slept in four days rushing to get through the final exams that ended up stacking on top of each other. The tension was beginning to unwind for Ford with the first break in months just around the corner, a well deserved break from the non stop onslaught of work they had been piling on themselves since the beginning of the semester.

Ford could tell the stress was starting to make his room mate begin to crack a little around the edges though. Before the crunch to finish the last few essays and cram in just another round of studying in before the date of the tests arrived, Fidds would rise early, tidy up their living space and greet Ford’s morning grumpiness with a bright smile and a warm cup of coffee. The coffee was still made in time but Fidds’s smile had become worn and tacked on before slowly disappearing entirely behind his text books.

Taking half the amount of classes as Ford himself was taking, he had to wonder why he was doing this to himself, he had to have those seven text books memorized by now and each re read of his research paper was met with a new rewrite that Ford wasn’t sure needed to be done. When he opened his mouth to ask that weary smile would always meet him and Fidds would respond it never hurt to recheck and revise his work.

The weather had begun to change earlier then Ford had expected, but in hindsight he should have been smart enough to pack heavier winter gear then just a few sweat shirts. Fidds had offered him a hand me down over sized jacket but Ford quickly declined it knowing it was his only one. The furnace had gone out in their building and Ford noticed the jacket hardly came off his friend. His knee constantly bouncing as he sat huddled against the wall on his bed, his worn text books and dozens of crumpled up pieces of paper scattered around him.

Ford felt a deep sense of pity taking him in this morning as he poured his own coffee for the first time in months. Fidds had large bags under his eyes curled up in the same spot Ford had seen him last before laying down for a little while to get some rest before tackling another subject. Text book open on his lap and a pen tapping against the note book next to him.

He didn’t seem to notice Ford staring at him like he usually did so enamored by his studying. Ford cleared his throat loudly making Fidds jump in surprise, his text book sliding off his lap and slamming shut next to him, his cheeks beginning to redden in embarrassment getting jumpy like that.

“I’m going to be heading to the library soon–” Ford began and Fidds began to perk up a little, that bright smile he hadn’t seen in a few days making the words falter in his mouth.

“I’ll be heading there soon as well,” Fidds began jumping up and gathering his books into his old leather bag held together by a few too many patches. Fidds had told him on more then one occasion how this was a lucky bag that he had inherited from his grandfather. It had saved him from the bullets that would have landed him in a body bag during WW1and was saving Fidds himself from failing he’d been told on more then once when he offered to get him a new bag.

“Just give me a sec—”

Fidds didn’t get to finish his sentence as Ford handed him a glass of coffee with enough sugar to make Ford’s teeth hurt, he preferred his coffee strong and black without his caffeine being deluded by so much sugar.

With one sip, Fidds tense shoulders began to ease and he sank back down on his bed, letting his half packed bag fall on the floor. The latch broke open as it often did, a gurgled swear fell out Fidds’s mouth choking on his coffee and spilling a large amount on his chest as he tried to dive to collect the papers that spilled out of his ‘lucky’ bag.

Ford noticed the tears beginning to collect in the corner of his friend’s eyes and the way his knee bounced was making Fidds body quake, his coffee spilling out slightly on his pant leg as he shoved his books back in his bag.

Ford gently took the coffee back from his friend and placed his hand on his shoulder trying to give him some comfort, Fidds forced out a smile as he excused himself from the room and entered the bathroom.

Ford straightened his books and papers out while he was away seeing the way they had just been crammed into the bag barely holding itself together by the seams.

He sat at the edge of his bed waiting for him to return, in that time actually considering forgoing his own studying in favor of doing something to help his friend unwind and relax to take his mind off of the stress. They could go see that movie Fidds had been excited about, the one about wars in the stars or something like that.

The minutes crept by slowly, Ford was becoming worried hearing nothing from the bathroom. He debated his next course of action before rapping lightly on the bathroom door, looking impatient or foolish felt better then not knowing what was going on behind that door. Fidds had been acting strange lately and something was making his stomach tie itself into a knot fearing the consequences of ignoring whatever was going on. Fidds was the only true friend he had ever had and he didn’t want to lose him to anything.

He heard Fidds’s soft, erratic breathing on the other side of the door and he didn’t stop to think about his actions, he just took a deep breath, took a few steps back and then rammed into the closed door. Fidds terrified shriek accompanied the loud deafening boom as he crashed the door down.

It wasn’t quite the hero’s rescue Ford may have thought it would have be after tripping over himself after his clumsy entrance. As he rose sheepishly from the ground he couldn’t take his eyes off the fistful of hair in each of Fidds’s shaking, clamped shut hands.

Fidds didn’t respond to the action he lowered his hands into his lap and averted his eyes from Ford, his face somehow managing to turn a brighter red in his shame.

Neither said anything to the other, both caught up in their own embarrassment. Ford was the first to find the courage to speak, clearing his throat first making Fidds knee bop up and down faster.

“Are you ok…?“

Fidds didn’t answer, he just kept his head down watching his knee bounce. Ford silently sat next to him on the rim of the bath tub, taking in the large wad of hair he had ripped out himself. Fidds noticing his gaze, tightened the fists in his lap turning his knuckles white, still refusing to meet Ford’s concerned stare or speak and when he did finally speak it wasn’t exactly what Ford expected.

“The door wasn’t locked.“

"Wha..?”

“The door,” Fidds quickly cut him off before he could continue whatever he was going to say, “I didn’t lock it. Ya didn’t need to knock it down…I’m really sorry my stupid behavior is gonna get ya in trouble with yer pa for paying money over something this stupid…"

"Fidds…that doesn’t–” Began even if his own heart was beginning to race at the very thought of his father finding out about how his impulsive and reckless action was costing him money. His father never took it well when he lost any of his earnings but not wanting to upset his friend further he took a deep breath and swallowed that thought for now, he would worry about it later.

“No, it does,” his voice was beginning to crack the longer he talked, tears finally breaking past his eyes, “I’m sorry."

"I just came in here to calm down a minute, I promise I wasn’t gonna do nothin’.”

“You PULLED out your hair…"

"I’m sorry ya had to see that, I really am,” he sobbed out turning away from Ford, “It just happens sometimes…”

“Why..?” This was one of the few instances in his life Ford didn’t have the answer to solve a problem. He didn’t like seeing his friend this way, upset and suffering from something he didn’t completely understand and trying to hide it to keep suffering with whatever was upsetting him alone.

“I just…” Fidds began before stopping taking a deep shaking breath then just said nothing. Ford rested his hand on top of one of Fidds’s bouncing knees trying to help ground him. The action seemed to help a little as Fidds took a deep, shaky breath before trying to tell his friend what was bothering him.

“I don’t want to fail…my folks put a lot on the line to get me to this school…to give me this chance and I don’t want to disappoint them…”

“Fidds… You are top of all of your classes!” Ford would have laughed during any normal circumstances.

The minutes crept by as they once more fell into the silence and Ford wrapped his arm around Fidds thin shoulders and let him rest his head on his shoulder, trying to give him as much comfort as possible.

“I can relate on some level…” Ford finally broke the silence gaining Fidds’s full attention, “I can’t bear the idea of failure either but it’s going to be ok Fidds, you don’t have to suffer alone.”

He pulled his friend a little closer trying to be as comforting as he possibly could.

“I’ll help you work through your problems like I taught myself to when I feel overwhelmed.”

Fidds finally smiled and something in Ford was put at ease by the small action.

Fiddauthor prompt:

Fidds remembers the traumatizing experiences he went through and begins having a severe anxiety attack and feels like he can’t handle it, Ford helps ground him. Holding him through the panic attack and helping him learn techniques he uses to help calm his mind when he thinks of his own bad experiences.

Official Prompts

Day One - College - July 21st

We all know that Stanford and Fiddleford were “college buddies” back in the day, but what exactly did they do together? Did they just click together right away, or did they have some disagreements first? Did Backupsmore have some paranormal activity, sweeping them into an adventure?

Optional QOTD: What were your initial thoughts on FiddAuthor? What had you shipping them, and is there anyone whom you must thank/file complaints for it?

Day Two - Vacation / Holiday  - July 22nd

The lovely @llamanee-sama brought up some very good points last night for this prompt and it being summer now had me side with her on a Holiday Vacation kind of theme. Choose which ever season you want and write / draw how you imagine they spend their time off (vacations at home or abroad) and / or how they celebrate any Holiday of your choosing together as a couple.

Optional QOTD: What is an activity that brings them together during their down time? Holiday themed or anything.

Day Three - family - July 23rd

Family is a very important element that drives both of their actions and choices forward in canon. Really show how important family is to both of them by having them bond with Tate, Mabel, Dipper or any of the extended Pines family.

Optional QOTD: How does the family react to their relationship?

Day Four - Bill Cipher - July 24th

This can range anywhere from Ciphord abuse to Bill just messing with the couple or anything you can think of that puts Bill in the mix.

Optional QOTD: Bill is disgusted by these humans and their human affection, how does he react?

Day Five - Science/ Supernatural - July 25th

This can focus on a project the two are working on together as a team or a monster hunt or them studying something weird and strange together.

Optional QOTD: Fidds becomes a lab rat during a science project or Ford some how talks him into being live bait, how does this end? Can be as silly or angsty as you want.

Day Six - Gift Exchange - July 26th (The Journal releases!)

This is a very special day for GF fans, so celebrate this joyful day by making something nice for your fellow fiddauthor fans. This can be a request or just creating something you know they will like or based on something they have made in the past.

Optional QOTD: Who is your favorite fiddauthor creator? What is your favorite work by them? And Why do you love them so much?

Day Seven+ - Create from Journal - July 27th and beyond

Take anything from the journal that inspires you to make a wonderful fiddauthor piece of your choosing.

Optional QOTD: Do you think the ship has a chance at being canon?

By the nature of the last prompt alone, we don’t expect you to be on time and really its fine to be late on any prompt. Please go at your own pace when creating these prompts and have fun! This festival will be going strong until the end of August.

Remember to tag everything as ‘Fiddauthor Fest’ so we can share you work to everyone who loves fiddauthor.

Bringing the official entries back as a reminder of what you are still welcome to do for the fest. Late entries are fine and welcome.

You are also free to send in writing/ drawing prompts for the ship now, spoilers from the journal will be OK for the prompts and they will be tagged for you guys to blacklist until you get the journal.

We might also be posting prompts from time to time as well to keep the fest going as long as possible and for you guys to enjoy your stay here.

A cleaned up and belated submission for day 1 of @fiddauthor-fest  I tend to think that they hit it off well as friends but given the time period, they probably buried their feelings for each other despite multiple awkward moments.  Fidds ended up marrying because he either didn’t know other options were valid or possibly to fill the role his family and society set out for him.     QOTD:   Originally I tried to fight shipping them.  “They’re just friends, right?” But at some point I fell face first into the ship.  The possible turmoil involved between the time period of their youth, Fiddleford being married and having a son, and their fight over the portal drew me in.  I fell in love with the idea of them having a second chance at things at an older age and at having a chance to understand themselves better and be accepted by family and themselves.  Plus the name Fiddleford in itself intrigued me…  I mean…  that’s pretty much a ship name right there…

Hey there! Sorry these prompts are late again :P but for Yesterday’s prompt of “gift exchange” I decided to take any requests! (And since I might not get the journal for a while, I’m still open to any requests, so send in as many as you like either through Tumblr or AO3!)

For the day 6 QOTD: It’s impossible for me to pick just one! I think I’ll have to make a longlist of artwork and fic recs to get everyone’s amazing art and stories down!

My first request is from VolunteerFieryDantooinian (on AO3): For a prompt, maybe a sickfic-y thing where ford comes down with something (fairly minor, at least at first.) and tries to hide it from fidds, he ends up passing out or something, lots of fluffy stuff.

Hope this doesn’t disappoint!

Day 6: Request 1

Ford tried to stifle yet another sneeze into the elbow of his coat, but even then the obnoxious sound echoed all throughout the labs. And once again, Fiddleford looked up from his work with some scrutiny and concern and said “Bless you.” For probably the billionth time within the hour. This time though, he finally worked up the courage, or maybe the annoyance, to ask.

FiddAuthor Day 5: Science/Supernatural

Guess who decided to take a hand in pixel art. Yeah.

And ugh, I always forget that GIFs can only support 50 colours, so have a mathematically incorrect shooting star and awkwardly fading UFO. I’m surprised the star twinkling even animated at all XD

There’s a better, but static PNG under the cut, by the way.

You said you still taking prompts? If so then could you maybe write about on the boat fiddleford is with the older twins and somethings happens that makes Stan mad and ford is just really upset that fiddleford and Stan don't get along. Angst, fluff and feels plz...

Sorry, the prompts are official now, I am on mobile so I can’t link it but it should be easy to find and I’ll reblog it if you like.

This blog itself won’t be really creating anything, just rebloging for the fest I’m afraid, if one of the admins or any one reading would like to fill this prompt and post it just tag Fiddauthor Fest and we’ll reblog it here for anon.

It’s a neat prompt though, I may cover it on my main blog and just reblog it here.

This does give me an idea though. I think it would be fun to keep this party going by submitting to use more story prompt ideas in the ask box and anyone following could write/draw the prompt.

What do you guys think?

And here’s my second request for day 6 of Fiddauthor fest! Coming from NinetyWrites (on AO3): For the request- could you write something with the infamous, heart-shattering, feels-inducing scene from Tale of Two Stans (we all know the one)? I think it’d be neat to see your take on it.

Hopefully this goes well, I’ve been writing nothing but fluff all week, but now it’s time to bring out the angst! I tried to put the scenes from Tale of Two Stans, the Last Mablecorn and even some unused storyboards I’ve seen circling tumblr to make this triple the angst so hopefully it worked!

(PS I’m still happy to take requests so don’t feel shy about sending in any prompts you’d like to see me write! I’ve got a bit of a wait till my copy of the Journal comes in. (or I cave and just read all the spoilers already on Tumblr))

Day 6: Request 2

Everything had gone wrong. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. It was an accident. A perfectly normal, human accident. Yet it still happened and Stanford could only watch helplessly as his best friend, his partner was dragged head-first into the portal that they both built together.
