"Today marks one year since the death of the People’s Bubbie Shatzi Weisberger. Before she passed, she said, “I’ll fight like hell for a free Palestine until the day I die. Then I’ll keep fighting. Your queer ancestor is with you.”

If you’ve been rising up in solidarity with Palestine these past two months, your queer ancestor is indeed with you, along with countless other antizionist Jewish ancestors. For many, family and community rifts may be especially painful right now. No matter what, you are not alone. Remember that you have a long lineage of elders and ancestors at your back.

Last night, Israel resumed its brutal bombing of Gaza and has already killed dozens of people. Shatzi would encourage all of us to do everything we can right now for a permanent, lasting ceasefire. To mourn the dead and fight like hell for the living.

Shatzi died on World AIDS Day, which was b’sheret ("destined”) because in addition to being a lifelong organizer, she was a nurse for 47 years who cared for people living and dying with AIDS.

I just got news that the island I grew up on is up in flames

Last night one of our major historic towns burnt down. The museum is ashes now. Major cultural centers burnt. The residential areas surrounding it have been destroyed, meaning hundreds of local families are now homeless and recovering from burn wounds. Nobody can afford to buy property on Maui these days, if they can't recover their land and restore their homes, there's no chance of just starting over unless they leave the state. And that's just the worst fire.

Several parts of Haleakala mountain are on fire, extending into at least two major residential areas. Half my family had to evacuate, they're all safe but I don't know yet if my uncle still has a home, or where exactly he amd my sister are right now. All the places I used to spend my childhood are gone. Just overnight.

I don't know where I'm going with this, sorry. I want people to know this is happening but I haven't been able to find any donation resources or anything yet. Everyone has their hands full with evacuations and medivacs and trying to fight the fires that are still spreading, I don't think there's been a chance to even set up donations yet.

If anyone knows any resources please link them. I have no idea what else to do

[Edit]: There's a mutual aid fund accepting donations at the moment. I know everyone's broke, and I don't expect everyone to be able to help out, but please at least spread this.

I did some looking and found some places. For those looking to help, local, established organizations will be your best call.

For those more familiar with the area than I, feel free to add on.

I also saw a few articles mention a Maui Mutual Aid Fund that is collecting donations to help, though I didn't find any website.
