So there has been a hummingbird nest at my house and yesterday the babies flew off with their mama. I was sad cause imma miss them but I know hummingbirds will reuse nests or other hummingbirds will use nest. Today I got up and decided to make waffles, toaster waffles, for breakfast when I heard this chirp sound. Something in my gut told me the bird needed help. My mom instincts lol. I waited and it went on for 15 minutes so I peaked off my back porch, where the now empty nest is. I saw the mama hummingbird flying around she was looking for the chirp. She flew off so I went out and looked around and I located that the noise was coming from this huge barrel of recyclables pressed against my garage. I went back in and the mother hummingbird went over to the area multiple times, she seemed relieved that she found the child that was in trouble but nervous because she didn't know how to help them. When she flew off I went out and peaked over the mountain of plastic. There I saw a tiny baby pressed Against the wall stuck between some water bottles. I carefully scooped them up and gave them some water. That seemed to help, the little one was so tired and scared. Fast forward to two hours (?) later and I'm sitting outside watching the mama feed her baby and fly off then come back and repeat. The baby I saved is currently sitting on the edge of the water bowl. It's sibling comes by, seeming somewhat confused. The little one is looking much better, just waiting till it has enough energy. I was recording a close up on my phone but the video is so long it turned off. My Friday will be spent waiting outside watching the little one until it flies off with its mama and sibling. The little one is no bigger than a match! I believe it's the runt of the two. I've been sitting so still that the other birds that come to drink from my dogs water bowl jump in surprise when I move. The sibling came to check in again. I hope the mama and sibling wait for this little one to regain strength. The sibling seems to be the better flyer, jerky movements and more carefree but it's only been flying for less then 24 hours. THE OTHER BABY HUMMING BIRD JUST GOT TRAPPED IN THE NET. RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES- OH okay... now it's sitting on the side, the mama is hovering over the sibling. The sibling is tiny as well but seems a tad bigger then the little one currently sitting on the bowl bowl. These little hummingbird babies will be the death of me. THE SIBLING JUST SMACHED INTO THE WINDOW THE MAMA WENT AFTER IT LIKE ' HONEY NO WAIT! THATS A-' * smack* '... window that's a window...' the sibling is now sitting on the edge of a trash can. I feel like the baby sitter. There is another adult hummingbird, I don't know if that's another female or the father. Both babies are in my close range.... let's see what happens next...
