I stared at the grandfather clock by the wall, watching the larger hand tick as each second passed by at a slow and tortuous pace. I absolutely hated waiting. “Please stop tapping your foot,” Spencer said, “you’re making me nervous.”

Luke was back at Quantico, doing god knows what, while Spencer and I were instructed to wait for his return. This was not unusual, Luke regularly asked us to wait for him. He didn’t want to miss out on the fun. His excuse was that Spencer and I spent more than enough time without him already, since the both of us were in a relationship before he met us. However, it has been hours already, and I was terribly, utterly horny.

People have always said that time passes faster on the way home. While that might be true for the people on their way, it certainly wasn’t true for those of us waiting at home. The minutes stretched into hours and by the time the sun started to set, I was already half asleep from the prior adrenaline rush from the text that read, ‘On our way home.’

The only thing that succeeded in stirring me from my seat on the couch was the loud, excited banter of two men on the other side of the door. That back and forth also stalled them enough that by the time the door did open, I threw myself at the first man to step over the threshold. He only barely caught me, no doubt aided by the other man’s hand holding him up.

“Welcome home!” I nearly shouted in Spencer’s ear.

“I told you we’d make it back before the sun went down,” Luke said as he wrapped his arm around the both of us. It was mostly just to move us from the door so he could close it, but there was some love there, too.  

“Barely,” I whined.

You know that saying, “stuck between a rock and a hard place”? My night was turning out something like that. Except instead of a rock and a hard place, I was stuck between a lion and a badger.

I’d lost track of whose turn it actually was in the debate between the boys after about the fifth objection. I was pretty sure it didn’t actually matter either way— I understood the gist of their arguments.

The only problem with my growing apathy and exhaustion was that by the time the door opened and revealed my boyfriend, I couldn’t even be bothered to move. So that’s what he saw when he walked in: Me, dressed in a closet cosplay of a Harry Potter character with Jack and Henry each tugging on one side of my scarf.

“Welcome home,” I managed to drone in the dullest possible register.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and thanks to rigid work schedules, it was rare that I had the chance to make a big to-do over it. So, on a particularly lazy Saturday morning at my boyfriend’s house, I took advantage of the opportunity to surprise the still-sleeping Wes with breakfast when he woke up.

Well, sort of. I really just planned on getting us something to-go from his favorite local cafe. After all, it was still a morning, even if it was a Saturday. I was lazy.
