.
maybe the world wished for today to be your off day. you had already started the morning late, regretting staying in bed for those unsatisfying extra twenty minutes that in your drowsy weakness you agreed to. there was barely enough time to change into a sweater, leggings, a pair of thick socks, and again throwing a long coat off all of that. you should’ve already known two layers did nothing in the cold breeze that hit you walking out the door.
you had nothing to do except ignore it, however, because the two minutes it would take you to find another layer would be the time it takes you to miss the bus, knowing your luck. with you already dashing to the bus stop as fast as you could with your bag already weighing you down, you needed all the time you could get.
somehow you manage to catch the bus right on time, stumbling a little as you stop suddenly behind the tall figure in front of you so you don’t bump into him.
it isn’t hard to feel you feel your presence, from the loud stomping of your boats and a couple of glances from the people around you. he turns around, and your eyes meet his raised eyebrows that you almost couldn’t make out with his dark bangs pushed down by his black baseball cap. but you’d recognize that face anywhere.
“y/n,” he says, beginning smile and taking in your wild hair being blown up in the wind and hands covered by the fabric of your sweater crossing over your chest in an attempt to keep warm. “rough morning?”
“i look that bad?” you teasingly question, feeling your morning brightening already.
after starting a new semester, you had initially regretted taking a morning class because you weren’t sure any class, no matter how amazing the professor was rumored to be, could be worth waking up that early when your regular bedtime is four am. but after taking three weeks to realize the boy at your bus stop sits two rows in front of you in class, it didn’t take long for some type of relationship forming. the two of you would talk the whole way there and even ended up walking to class together, the conversation having swayed way past the assignment due and more towards the weird videos his friend jun keeps sending him.
“no, it’s not possible.” the last part comes out a bit as a mumble but you heard it anyways, a dash of pink dusting your cheeks. he sees this, looking away from you and tries to hold in a small giggle, and failing.
“you’re particularity sweet this morning hao,” you say, brushing past him smiling as he moves aside to let you on the bus first.
“to make up for the cold weather,” he jokes. “i heard it’s supposed to snow this week too.”
you stare outside the window for a moment. it was so cold even the glass window gave off an ice like breeze. you rub your hands down your arms feeling chilly in the poorly heated bus.
“ah i wish i threw on another sweater, you know prof likes to keep the classroom like a freezer too.” you comment without any thoughts, just trying to not focus on your ice cold hands.
“here,” he pulls his arms through his coat, taking off the stylish beige and handing it to you, “take mine.”
you lean back slightly in surprise and furrow your brows worriedly, “but what about you?”
“i can lose a layer if it means you’d be warm.”
he smiles at you, not the little smirk you normally see, but actually smiles with his teeth showing, nose and eyes scrunching together, and the tips of his ears red.
“can you really do a whole week without your coat?” you accept it, trying not to melt as minghao’s scent engulfs you and the coat arms cover past your hands.
“guess that gives us a reason to meet up before then.”
