So, the National Parks System has this thing where they provide a free annual pass to fourth grade children and their families. A couple years ago we did that for my younger son, and since it was his pass we allowed him to select a park to visit. He chose Big Bend in Texas, which probably wouldn't have been my first choice. You have no idea how many different kinds of plants there can be in a desert until you go walking around one. We saw the most gorgeous birds and wildflowers. There's this little hot spring like, right in the middle of the Rio Grande where people were taking a dip. Oh, and also? It's one of the biggest dark sky areas in the country. The nights were nothing short of transcendent.
