How to: write pain

  • Don’t make paragraphs about it - battles are supposed to be fast-paced

Describe:

- the object used to harm the character

-where the injury is

-how long the character had had the injury

-how deep the cut is (for blades)

-whether or not the wound triggers other things (dizziness, bleeding)

There are different kinds of pain

punch/blunt force trauma:

-how it feels: aching, a single spike of pain before it fades into an ache, throbbing, numbness

-effects: swelling, bruising, broken bones, unconsciousness, dizziness, concussion, internal bleeding.

stab wound/cut

-how it feels: stinging (shallow wounds), burning

-effects: bleeding (the blood from arteries is a brighter red, like vermilion, the blood from veins is dark crimson), dizziness from the blood loss, unconsciousness, infection (if left unattended), death

gunshot

-how it feels: depends on the caliber bullet, from how far away they were shot and in what place

-effects: same as stab wounds

Things that an injured character may have/do

-heavy, harsh, ragged breathing

-panting, gasping, crying, grunting, hissing, groaning, whimpering, screaming, shrieking, clenching their teeth

-ears ringing, unable to speak

-pressing their hands on the injury to try and stop the bleeding, trembling, eyes rolling up into their head

-vision blurring, room spinning

Where to hit in a fight

  • temple and jaw - good for a knockout punch, but are near the skull so it will be dangerous if you miss (it can broke/dislocate your fingers)
  • nose/eyes - messes up the senses and distracts the opponent
  • neck: can mess up breathing, talking and the spinal cord
  • inner elbow: can disable the opponent’s arm
  • solar plexus: hard to hit but very effective
  • liver: causes immediate pain, dizziness and loss of breath
  • kidneys
  • groin
  • outer/inner thighs
  • knees

—————–

But not getting into a fight stops the injury for both the opponents :)

Your art is too good for words. If you're willing to share the secret then please tell us in a tutorial!!!! I am quite envious of you :")

i Dont know which secret that i can shared, actually my secret only the brush texture tbh, but i think i can share my technique to coloring fast

First color the hair like mad people *cause im lazy yea

Then selection all with magic wand and ctrl+X or just manually erased

and walla! you got a cleaned colored hair just in a minute ! *why dont you just selection inside the lineart? –> bcause it’ll not colored the litlle spaces near each lineart and i cant see that;;_;;

repeat that to the other, usually i kept hair in the same layer which hair is the top one, dress the second, and ect. so i’m not confused where the *shading* layer and so on and minimalize the file size lol.

i used the spread texture brush and paint the hair using dab-dab technique like u dab fondation to your face with beauty blender, and lock the layer . i colored everything in 1 layer, some people goes on new layer and clipping mask in which is fine.

and still shading now with noise texture ! well just like thath XD

then i just repeat that technique to everything, in SAI use the” filter” often, in PS use “curve” which both will makes color balanced.well i think thats it, i hope its usefull :D

How it feels to be stabbed

Getting stabbed is an experience that no one in their right mind would want to have. But, what if you do get stabbed? What would that feel like?

It usually feels like you’re being punched.

The description of being punched really hard comes up a lot when people describe the experience. One woman said she didn’t even realize she was being stabbed, she just thought her attacker was punching her as hard as he could. Many people don’t feel the actual puncturing, just the force of the knife hitting them.

You might feel nothing at all.

This wasn’t as common as the feeling of being hit, but some people said they literally felt nothing. One person said they felt nothing, but their brain started racing and their fight or flight kicked in. Another didn’t realize someone stabbed them until they saw that they were bleeding profusely.

Occasionally, it feels like you got shocked.

A few stab wound survivors described it as a very quick, but powerful, electric shock. One person described it as static electricity, while another said it was like lightening hitting them. The pain of the initial shock goes away as quickly as it occurred.

Eventually, over time,  it’s probably going to hurt.

Of course the location of the stab wound effects how much it would hurt. Getting stabbed in the arm isn’t going to hurt as badly as a stab that punctured a lung. But after a while, you will most likely feel some pain. If the person wiggles the knife while it’s still in you, the pain may be more intense.

Reblogging for future reference. Most Rychillan weapons are daggers or bows/crossbows.

if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your process for beginning a new story? im trying to get back into writing again and want to see if you have any tips 😊

Hi! I’m sure my first answer is kinda obvious, but the process for me begins with an idea. It could be a scene, or a certain au I want to write, or something like that. For example, I have a story I want to write and I’m still in the outlining stage of it. It started with me listening to a song and getting inspired by the lyrics and imagining Natsu and Lucy to that scenario. That wasn’t enough to really make a story out of, so I left it alone for a while until I got another idea for that story. I keep notes and documents of every story idea I have, even the ones I know I’m never going to write. I keep all the brainstorming documents as well in case I need to go back and add an idea I originally decided not to include.

A good thing to do is figure out where the story is going to begin and end so you know what to outline (if you like to outline). I usually start the story in a place where it seems like a scene’s already started before the story actually started so there’s not as much filler in the beginning. You can do that by starting in the middle of a conversation or something similar?

If you know how your story is going to end, it makes it easier to work up to that point. I’m not saying you have to set it in stone. I’ve changed endings all the time when my original idea didn’t fit anymore. But it’s good to have a general idea. Like, there’s one story I’ve wanted to do since 2016, but since I can’t figure out the ending I can’t do much with the outlining because I don’t know what they’re working towards.

Anyways, when I start a new story I jot down as many ideas as I possibly can, even if they’re not in order or don’t make sense. You can smooth everything out later in your outlining or editing phases. (If you choose to do either) I usually like to estimate how long the story will be. Like, I’ll make paragraphs for what should go in what chapter (after I decide on the timeline of the story) then see how long a story like that will take. The story I mentioned earlier with the song is about 7 chapters, but they’re shorter chapters than what I usually write.

I guess next I go through the outline again and flesh it out so I know more about what’s going to happen each chapter. For my longer multi-chapter fics, I have a separate document just with the overall outline, then more documents with notes and character details. I also save reference photos in the story’s folder to use later, like in one story I needed to know what the inside of a car looked like to make sure the scene was accurate, so I saved the picture for when I need it.

I usually start writing chapter one when I have a vague–general outline written. Sometimes I deviate from the path I set out on, but that’s okay, as long as I can rope it back in so it doesn’t get too hard to manage. (Looking at you Leatherneck, and FTGO!, and CHDH, and OM. Fuck… all my stories got away from me at one point or another)

Anyways… I would say gather as much information as you can about  what type of story you want to write before you start, but know that you always have the option to go back and polish up what you’ve written if you start without an idea on where the story is headed. I know some people like to just write and see where it goes while others like to plan it all out. I think it’s good to do a little of both. Plan, but don’t feel like you have to stick with that plan just because it was how you started. It’s your story after all.

I hope that helped? I kinda feel like I’m all over the place with this. In my defense, I’m tired as fuck and trying to proofread but keep getting distracted, lol. Good luck with writing! I hope you have fun with it!!!! :)

Oh, and I have a sideblog with some writing references, and drawing references… and some funny stuff, because why the hell not? It’s @fairytailandchill if you wanna check it out? No pressure. I update it irregularly, so be warned. lol
