As a therapist-in-training, I can tell you that this is absolutely not true. The idea of drawn CP as a ‘healthy’ release was an old theory essentially based on the same principles as catharsis theory (which has since been thoroughly debunked). The use of drawn CP de-sensitizes users to the usual ‘taboo’ness of sexual acts with children, and actually increases fantasies about children. Feeding an urge doesn’t discharge it- it reinforces it. It’s absolutely considered a risk factor for offending. Therapists who know their stuff and are up on their research will not be supporting the use of ‘loli’ (a euphemism for child pornography involving drawings of little girls). Many people who claim to want to be non-offending refuse to give this up because it’s gratifying to them. It’s very hard for them to hear that something they enjoy, that they think of as ‘less bad’, is actually still harmful and puts them at a higher risk of offending. However, that’s the reality.
