I recall I did most of the talking– though not certain if this was on purpose.  I just always thought, with your cousin being brutally ambitious, if perhaps there was more to the story than surface reveals.

It’s possible certainly. I remember hearing inklings about it, once you had favoured me in freeing me of them and no one felt the need to respect their memory, but it was just suspicions and no one would tell me anything openly. I suppose you no longer remember if their blood confessed to you something in the matter, do you? 

His blood admitted evil uncounted, all for his own singular ambition and greed.  He possessed a soul darkly content, with absolutely no guilt muddying his grandiose satisfaction.  There were so many faces and names, I could grasp not a single one.  But I am certain a man such as he could not abide a higher patriarch of the family-- how else could he control?

I asked Anne Rice a few months ago why Marius was so angry.  She said Marius was mad because of Akasha.  Sorry, Armand.

see here’s the thing, as a person who has lived stuff like that–when you’re in the presence of an individual, particularly a parent/caretaker/romantic partner (or all of the above HI MARIUS) who starts behaving that way, it often does not *matter* emotionally or materially whether you’re the direct cause of that kind of acting out. you’re still the one who has to deal with the fear it causes and the potential escalation. and it’s horrifying, especially if the person doing it has in the past engaged in abusive actions; they can outright *tell* you that they aren’t angry at you, and the only bottom line that matters is that they are *angry*, because anger can so easily equal pain and humiliation when you’re classed as an object used to let out frustrations.

In my memory (which is exhausted, so forgive me if my order of events is off)... 

Marius sends Amadeo to a brothel where he stays a few nights.  When he is collected by Marius, Marius is painting that Shepard picture of him.  Amadeo is worried, I think, because all Marius does is tell him to lie still.  So the next day, Amadeo wakes up and writes a little note challenging Marius to be honest about his feelings (I think... I don’t remember what the note was about).  Afterward, he gets himself drunk and ends up spending three nights with that English Earl that eventually ends of killing him.  Instead of going home, Amadeo goes to Bianca’s and they sleep together, and Amadeo spends the night with her.  The next night is when he goes home and Marius is flipping out.  So, Amadeo was gone for a few days and nights enjoying a bit of rebellion.

Ghostly steps echoed across the old pavement of the ancient city. The streets were deserted safe for one or two stray rats digging through abandoned trash cans. It was this strange hour of night between three and four in the morning when most party goers had already fallen into their hotel beds and the earliest workers had not risen yet. Later in the day every inch of this place would be bustling with tourists, food stands and pigeons picking at ice cream cone crumbs. These walls had surely seen a lot in their days already. 

Although Asmodeus thoroughly enjoyed the hot hustle and bustle of the day time, he found that Rome, as many old cities, unfolded its particular charm best at night. When the moonlight illuminated all the little cracks in marble pillars and cobblestones that had seen the centuries pass by, and the air was so quiet that he could hear the wind rustling through the treetops.. But wait. Wasn’t there also something else?

The demon could hear the hushed whispers and sense the presence of at least two people just around the next building. How did that saying go again? Something about curiousity, satisfaction and a cat. Asmodeus smiled to himself as he stepped around the corner.

The sight of two men greeted him then, standing closely together in what looked like a terribly intimate embrace. But those were hardly two of your average lovebirds meeting under the romantic light of street lanterns at night.

“Oh. I apologize. I did not realise this alley was taken. Don’t you be bothered by me.”

Marius’ arms wound around the young man’s waist, the air between them warm from the pounding of a mortal heart.  The thunderous rhythm synced with the steady cadence of Marius’ own patient but hungry heart.  But he was tender, the violence nothing more than a simple kiss, a whisper.  After, an entire life was lived in the span of minutes, in the delicate tidal waves of blood flowing into Marius’ mouth.

His name was Antonio, a student of economics and a collector of musical instruments he barely knew how to play but pretended to associates that he was much better at.  His mother worked in a shop and his father was a pilot.  And Marius learned more intimate things-- the lies Antonio told, the time he stole, that poor dead bird.  In the blood was the variety tastes of love and hate, lust and antipathy-- things without words or memory, just swells and sighs.  So much better than the dank, dingy smell of an alley saturated with rain that molded into every crack and crevice.  

Marius chastised himself for he should have heard the approach.  To be caught in this act was a dangerous thing, even if the usual perception was that a more carnal and less bestial sort of intimacy was taking place.  In a second, Marius bit his tongue and placed a drop of blood on the man’s neck to heal the two matching teeth wounds.  Without a word, in a singular transported thought, Marius bid the man to forget, to forget their meeting, forget this alley, and continue on with his evening with absolutely no recollection of any of this.  For a moment, the youth stood dazed, reanimating wordlessly to step away and into the hollow glow of the street lights and shop illuminations.  

“No intrusion,” Marius assured, stepping further into the shadows, smoothing down the front of his shirt and checking the sleeves of his shirt to ensure order.  After a quick touch to his hair with gloved hands, Marius tilted his head, “Are you in need of an empty alley?”
