People who's job it is to cultivate a zeitgeist don't even believe in the zeitgeist anymore... they don't believe in secret longings or untapped desires ... like its crazy

Last word for now but when you stop and think about executives not wanting to spend money on films that are not a "sure bet".. and then you see how much money they're losing on their most toothless, "safe" projects... like this is beyond arthouse dying at the box office atp. This is a state of the world where people cannot direct money towards uncertainty, period, which is a pretty ominous self-fulfilling business prophecy. a world where money is your God but you also want the omniscience of God to know that you will never lose. It's literally mental illness and when capitalists are this delusional, lazy, and cowardly, the mood they create is less diluted for the masses than ever before because of socials. C-suites are a doomsday cult, they are not immune to their own awfulness - they're legit like priests having a crisis of faith rn. The worst thing we can do is emulate their attitudes because art and money are not the same vocation.

^ imagine having no faith in your own powers of mind control. Like sell the goddam movie... They're gonna keep making advertising shittier and more automated until it becomes lost magic and they don't even know how it works anymore. We need a powerful Don Draper-esque mage in these board rooms.... "people don't know what they want because I haven't told them" ethos

Hows ny life so far

so wonderful. basically all the time I spent on this website neglecting academics, health, and personal development was table-setting for a good life in New York. I know so many people I never would have otherwise.

This specific cut in The 355 was when cinema died

idc that no one saw this, i think the energy released upon the world by this single cut is what eventually led to Disney losing over 1 billion dollars on their projects this year. Like the possible circumstances that led to this cut (slapdash shooting schedule/lack of coverage/bad action choreography/actresses possibly not even scheduled to be in a 360 shot at the same time so it was shot on two different days/ rushed postproduction) is how they have been running every single production since 2019.

a lot of people's despair about the state of art in late capitalism is just a longing to be deemed marketable. Algorithms are a smokescreen that could be actually be construed as useful to artists because now the vultures can't see them as anything beyond disappointing data. that story that just ran where a&r executives were lamenting the lack of breakthrough new artists when they're the ones who created the circumstances in which they are out of touch with people's instincts. Taste was the first thing farmed out to AI, and now they've tricked themselves into thinking there aren't artists that can connect with the public anymore. And artists see an ecosystem like the 90s where they were giving money to Primus through this utopian lens rather than the inherently unsustainable race to the bottom that it was. Executives do not validate artists with the belief that they actually influence culture, and vice versa. everyone needs a little bit of Don Draper in them when he told Dr. Faye that no amount of market research could support the viability of his idea because his ideas shaped the market. And artists who want to reject capitalism all together should (and do) see this moment of market impotency as an opportunity to innovate new ideas and tactics. All those people on reddit lamenting their boredom with their city/the state of art/the state of the internet are doing us a favor by self-selecting out, because their belief in the power of art is conditional on someone trying to sell them Primus.

A great music resource for now would be a website that's an interactive map of the country where you can click on different places and get information on local musicians and venues there, similar to what resident advisor and dodiy do now but with less of an emphasis on touring and a slicker interface, because unfortunately, I think we've lost some literacy and trust in terms of established design aesthetics of indie media. idk i think even just that visual of everyone's physical proximity would be exciting for people. Obviously the problem would be generating money for upkeep but it's like we need stuff that looks venture capital-backed but it's being done completely for free, money and data-wise.

millennials are the new boomers

everyone is just dealing with circumstances out of their control while being encouraged to identify with them.
