Out of pure curiosity and fun!
realized i never shared my rot series from beginner's ceramics 🍊 obviously pretty wonky + some cracking and weird glaze stuff, but i really loved every step of the process <3 hoping i get to do it again sometime
[id: ceramics bowls designed like molding oranges. the first isnt moldy yet, the second has some mold at the bottom, the third is half moldy, and the last one is covered almost completely in mold with some orange patches. each bowl has a photo of it from the side and from the top. end id]
today’s obsession is ancient tattoos, in particular the s-curved floral-antlered deer of the Siberian Ice Maiden and Scythian Chieftain.
it’s such a heavily used trope in modern media (off the top of my head I can think of Pokemon, Annihilation, Bambi, Snow White and the Huntsman, etc) and why wouldn’t it be! antlers look like branches, branches look like antlers, it’s only natural to pair them
but it makes me strangely emotional that our brains have always worked this way, and been drawn to the same imagery over and over again.
I’m also going to resist the urge to make paired enamel pins of these ancient deer, even though I deeply desire little wearable tributes of the past
Make the enamel pin pls @pangur-and-grim
well okay, if you insist!
pre-orders are open for these ancient stag enamel pins at greerstothers.shop
and as an added bonus, the Scythian Chieftan’s ram!
I’ve spent 9.3k in vet bills the last four days (details under the cut), so these are once again up for pre-order!
I always wondered why the Western Zodiac and the Chinese Zodiac were both called zodiacs if one was associated w astronomy and the other w time in general. Like what defines a zodiac that the word is only used to describe these two things? Looking up the word “zodiac” in the dictionary didnt help bc it only talked about the western one.
Well, I decided to look up the etymology for zodiac and it turns out it comes from the Greek for “circle of little animals.” I love humans
was unwilling to accept this outright so i checked etymonline and, truly:

Behold, a zodiac!

Here’s a link to a petition to protect Native American land in NC from a gas station chain which poses immense environmental threats, has violated workers rights, and will destroy land with historical significance to natives. My ancestors traveled the trading path they plan to build over. Please sign if you have a moment
Adults: Following rules is good, not following rules is bad
Little me: Okay :] *follows a rule*
Adults: Oh my god look at this loser. He doesn't know that this rule is Secretly Okay To Not Follow. Dumbass. Let's all laugh at him

Pictures like this are so important! I wish I would have seen more of this when I was younger. I’d have been more receptive to my body’s need for mobility aids if I had seen it in a positive light like this.
Customer told me today I had a really good memory because I recalled a conversation with him from last week.
Me.
The same person that can’t remember what date it is let alone the day of the week. Couldn’t tell you what I ate last night or any other day. Thinks 2019 was two years ago, max three. Forgets everything that isn’t written down on a sticky note that I also forget to look at.
Me: *nervous laugh* I guess
I can't even remember people's name unless I'm regularly around them for a while. But I can remember conversations, things they like/don't like, their drink order, ect. I think it's a combination of the audhd, dyslexia, and making people my special interest for so long. It took me a while to realize that I do have a good memory. It just doesn't prioritize what most brains prioritize. I regularly forget my own birthday, but I can vividly remember christmas when I was 2. I remember that my best friend in kindergarten doesn't like ketchup. Unfortunately, this means I also remember something said to hurt my feelings 30 years ago. I have no control over what sticks. It's like that episode of SpongeBob where he needs to learn to be a fancy waiter, so his brain dumps a bunch of stuff to make room. Lol
'i have to take medication because my immune system decided kinkshaming the trees is more important than breathing' is objectively an insane concept. thumbs down to seasonal allergies.

"came back wrong" but it's food that you heated up in the microwave
OK SO
For anyone who hasn't heard my Microwave Rant:
Microwaves are designed to be used at a broad range of power levels. If you're getting bad results reheating your food, and you're doing everything on full blast, try a lower power setting! 50% power for twice the time, just give it a shot. It gives the heat time to spread evenly, and prevents overcooking of parts that are exposed to more radiation.
People complain about reheated pizza a lot -- that's bc overheating the crust makes it tough and chewy. I usually do pizza on 30% power for THREE times as long because it's especially vulnerable -- and my crust always comes out nice and tender.
I think there's a good metaphor for Came Back Wrong here too: if you actually take the time to do your necromantic ritual and/or unholy experiment right, and don't rush it at 100% power, you're likely to get better results.
Those who have seen both Star Wars and Stargate SG-1, time to ask the Important Question™
Please reblog for visibility and a bigger sample size, I need answers so I can die in peace
This result is so fuckin funny
This made me laugh way too hard
