Tbh it’s probably at least half a plot to get Yami to fuck him rougher. I’m onto you Bakura I know your game.

Okay so I’ve been thinking a bit more about Dom Yugi

For some reason I see it particularly with kleptoshipping (I don’t think a new name has been picked for this ship yet?) and I think a lot of that is Bakura being extremely kinky. Though I’d normally think of him as a switch, something about the interplay of their personalities makes me think Yugi would be a pretty fantastic Dom for him. Probably because no amount of angry pessimism can defeat his cheerfulness, lol.

Heartshipping I’d say Yugi and Ryou are both switches. They both rely too much on ‘manipulative’ tactics (for lack of a better term) rather than being commanding or intimidating, and though I think either has the ability to live the lifestyle in either role with different partners, with each other it would be whoever is feeling up to it at the time. They might go for quite a period of time where one of them consistently plays one role, but they will eventually switch.

Rivalshipping… Well, to be honest, Dom Yugi is kind of the only way this ship works for me. I’m normally not fond of it because Seto has the whole problem with acknowledging Yugi as a person; and even past that may have trouble respecting him. This way Yugi MAKES Seto respect him. Ha. It’s only too easy for me to see Seto as a hardcore submissive who secretly wants nothing more than to be humiliated (and has trouble admitting his limits due to pride), and Yugi would actually be a good fit in that case as he’s perceptive and wouldn’t try to turn it into a competition.

With Joey… Well it’s shocking, because I usually see Joey very firmly as vanilla. He’s up to try absolutely anything (especially if it’s Yugi who wants him to try it) and nothing really turns him off; but for himself he has no kinks and just plain old sex is great in his mind. However, imagining Yugi as a Dom I can suddenly see Joey as his lifestyle submissive? Maybe it’s because Joey could never be comfortable enough with anyone else (probably even Yami?) to let them put him in a lesser position; or that he wouldn’t be able to trust anyone else to not actually think of him as lesser. I honestly don’t know why it seems so plausible, but I’m fascinated by the fact that it does.

And I think I finally figured out the puzzleshipping angle. It’s exclusive to the bedroom, in public they act exactly the same. Yami is still the aggressive and protective partner and holds himself responsible for everyone’s well being. In private, Yugi becomes his safe place where he can let go of those things - but as much as he wants to he can’t do it without having his surrender literally forced out of him. He’s too proud. It’s up to Yugi, who knows him better than anyone and who he trusts, to break him down until he’s just a sobbing mess and then build him back up again. Yeeeeeahhhhh.
