Love watching everyone twisting themselves into knots trying to justify CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky casually dismissing the deaths of disabled people.

She’s not going to fuck you guys.

That’s not what she said and lying is terrible disability activism. She said that the death rates among vaccinated people are very small (current numbers are  0.0033%) and that 78% of those that have unfortunately died have had at least four of the following comorbidities [from this CDC document]:

age ≥65 years, immunosuppression, diabetes, and chronic kidney, cardiac, pulmonary, neurologic, and liver disease

(Neurologic in this case does not mean a mental health diagnosis or autism spectrum, by the way.)

The study she was talking about followed more than a million people, of which 36 died. 28 of those people who died had been ill in multiple organ systems or older the age of 65 or immunocompromised or both, but it is very certain that more than ~28 people in the sample size of 1,228,664 also had four-plus of these comorbidities to deal with! She was pointing out that mass vaccination protects the most vulnerable in society by reducing the mortality rate even in people who have severe comorbidities. Being, say, immunocompromised and over the age of 65 with dementia and chronic liver disease doesn’t have good outcomes even without a global pandemic, and yet only 28 people who checked four of those boxes and 36 who checked at least one died after vaccination.

This is a good thing for disabled and vulnerable people, because that changes the death rate from COVID to nearly inconsequential, even for those who have multiple chronic organ dysfunction!

I don’t know why you’re choosing to do this, other than you’re too much of an egoist to admit you fell for a chop job, but I fail to see how discouraging people from getting the vaccines is helpful, which is what you are doing. I fail to see why scaring and misinforming the people who follow you for disability activism. “She didn’t communicate this properly and I dislike the CDC’s track record of failing to communicate coherently” is a totally fair and necessary critique. “She’s casually dismissing the deaths of disabled people” is a lie that you are doubling down on, for a reason that I can only guess is because you care more about your ego and your internet clout than other disabled and chronically ill people.

It should not lie on the rest of us to expend energy endlessly correcting your willful fearmongering misinformation, and no one, especially not other disabled and chronically ill people, should have to deal with you calling them thirsty genocidaires just because you’re a pissy little brat who can’t say “sorry, I was wrong.”

Except she didn't say it was "unfortunate" that the 78% of people dying had 4 or more comorbidities.

She said it was "encouraging news". Not "unfortunate".

"Encouraging news" and "unfortunately" are antonyms, not synonyms.

She verbatim said:

DR. WALENSKY: The overwhelming number of death, over 75 percent, occurred in people who had at least four comorbidities. So really, these are people who were unwell to begin with. And yes, really encouraging news in the context of omicron. This means not only just to get your primary series but to get your booster series, and yes, we’re really encouraged by these results.

Emphasis mine, and full context of what she said.

We are taking issue with the fact that she say with her mouth that it is "encouraging news" that only people who were "unwell to begin with" are dying. It's only unwell people dying!! We shouldn't care about them, they're already sick, so they're just disposable!! Encouraging news everyone! It's only those icky sick and disabled and old people who are dying!

So yes. That's the problem with what she said.

She IS casually dismissing the deaths of disabled people. THOSE WERE THE WORDS OUT OF HER MOUTH.

Why are you lying?

They’re lying because personally attacking the immunocompromised person pointing out the CDC Director spouting eugenics is easier than the self-examination required to unwind their own eugenicist beliefs.

And everyone reblogging them is reblogging in support of eugenics. Because deep down they don’t think our lives matter and they are relieved that only we are going to die and that is encouraging news to them.

They’re eugenicists.

“On Friday, January 7, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, in an interview with Good Morning America, commented on the results of a research study. Director Walensky remarked that a disproportionate number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the study population occurred among those with four or more comorbidities, calling those patients ‘people who were unwell to begin with’ and these results as ‘encouraging news’. The disability community, who represent those with four or more comorbidities who died in the study, responded in turn. The hashtag #MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy, started by writer and activist Imani Barbarin, was a top trend on Twitter over the weekend. As a result of the controversy, representatives from numerous disability organizations requested a meeting with the CDC Director.”

150 disability rights organizations say there’s a problem. One <redacted> on Tumblr claims there isn’t. Who do we believe? 🤔🧐⚖️

why must a fictional man be “good”? isn’t it enough that he’s pathetic

A) truly, truly, and b) this is also, at least I my experience, a huge part of the appeal of villain man/hero woman ships. The antis get into a pearl-clutching froth about how we Support Unhealthy Fictional Behavior!!!!1, when usually, 99% of the time, we just want to see the pathetic garbage man act in a pathetic garbage fashion, blow things up, blow himself up, fall on his face, trip on his feet, and wash up in a helpless tide of failure before the take-no-shit woman who is zero percent impressed by his nonsense, but grudgingly charmed anyway, while he of course is madly in love and absolutely, fantastically terrible at expressing it. Truly.

tumblr is literally a website about making up a guy to be really mad about & then getting 10,000 notes for your troubles off people who take your assertion that such a guy exists at face value

“people are writing squid game fix it fics bc they fundamentally don’t understand tragic stories” is quite a bold assumption about why people write fanfiction for any media. i would wager that actually quite a lot of people are fully aware of why fictional narratives utilise tragedy and are not writing fanfiction as a way of saying that the original work is flawed, but rather as a way of expressing & exploring their emotional connection to the characters involved. im sorry that you personally want to continue asserting your moral and intellectual superiority over anyone with an ao3 account but assuming that everyone who doesn’t engage with media with your exact level of lofty intellectual detachment is some kind of picrew icon steven universe blogger strawman who thinks two characters having an argument in a children’s cartoon is #problematic arguably says more about your own critical thinking skills than anything else

Got my first rude not-really-a-complimemt A03 comment lets go I guess

Like not trying to complain too much cuz I get enough nice comments(plus I write my fics for me first and foremost) so I don’t really care, but stuff like this? Is not a compliment.

Image ID: An Archive of Our Own comment with the user name scribbled out that says “While I am happy to say this story is interesting, I hope you experiment with other parings like (the paring name is scribbled out) some day”. End ID.

Like I get it if you want to see fics for ships you like better, but don’t come onto the fic of someone who has never written that ship, say something weird about their fic, and then say you hope they write something else you like better some day. I’m not you and I write what I want to write and tbh this makes me want to write for the ship they mentioned even less.

So yeah, very shitty. 0/10. If you aren’t interested in the paring featured in a fic just Don’t Fucking Read It.

The brothers got a divorce on Twitter

Yanno what, I’ll just wait for Sarah Z to make an explainer video

Let me preface this by saying that everyone, including me, should be taken as an unreliable source about the Supernatural fandom; and also that there is *so much* misinformation about Supernatural, its actors, and its creative team out there that is accepted as fact by one faction or the other that I think it is objectively impossible to arrive at one unified “truth of the matter”, but from my perspective, here’s what appears to have happened:

- Jensen Ackles, who plays/played Dean, and his wife Danneel, announced via Twitter that their production company was developing some kind of a prequel about Sam and Dean’s parents, which would take place in the 1970s.

- large swathes of the fandom were unimpressed.

- Jared Padalecki, who plays/played Sam, posted on Twitter that the previous Twitter announcement was the first he had heard of any such prequel being produced. One of his tweets, which he quickly deleted, was pretty strongly worded and indicated that he felt pretty betrayed about not having been told or approached prior to hearing about it on Twitter.

- large swathes of the fandom got even more upset. This included (a) people who despise Jared and everything he stands for for reasons I am not going to go into on this post and (b) people who are very heavily invested in whether or not Jared and Jensen are still good friends and interpreted all of this as a sign that their friendship was over.

- This morning, both Jared and Jensen tweeted that they spoke to each other and are still friends. Presumably, large swathes of the fandom are still upset about this, or possibly, different swathes of the fandom are upset than were upset before, for reasons including (a) the apology didn’t appear genuine and they wanted Jensen to grovel more (b) the apology didn’t appear genuine and they wanted Jared to grovel more, and © they think the entire kerfuffle stinks of a publicity stunt for a show that otherwise nobody was going to be talking about.

So I found out today that my mom has been transfered to the ICU in a bigger hospital and so given that I'm the only person in our family who is fully vaccinated I'm going to be flying out to see her just in case things get bad. People have already been amazingly helpful but I'm gonna be gone for about a week most likely (and on my birthday...yaaay) so if anyone would be able to donate to help with food along the way I would really appreciate it. I was able to cover the plane and train tickets and get a place to stay, but food is probably gonna be my biggest expense and I could def use a bit of help with it.

My PayPal is queesting@gmail.com and my cashapp is $LookingForLoo, thanks guys!

Huge pro tip to all the doctors out there: absolutely NO disabled person is going to react positively to you commenting on their age in relation to their condition. Saying “You’re just so young” to someone with a disability doesn’t really say anything other than that you think there’s something pitiable about a person under 50 being disabled and you can keep that weird internalize ableism shit to yourself.

Hey, my mom is trying to save up enough money to move herself and my two youngest siblings out to Arizona to be closer to our family and she could really use some help! If anyone could donate or just reblog it would really help us out!
