Jasey Rae

Summary: One shot based on a daydream I had about an almost and I if I had given him a chance and given him my virginty to the lyrics of Jasey Rae by All Time Low

Lights out, I still hear the rain. These images that fill my head now keep my fingers from making mistakes. Tell my voice what it takes to speak up, speak up, and keep my conscience clean when I wake.

She turned off the lights and laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling. Her hand reached out to the side of her, but she only slept alone now. Feeling the cold of the bed next to her made her sigh. She placed her hands on her stomach. She felt conflicted. Part of her was calm and at peace as she listened to the rain hitting the roof of her home. The other part fell into memories with him.

“Are you ready?” He asked her with a big smile. She couldn’t help but laugh at his excitement. She had finally agreed to travel with him.

“Let’s get outta here!” She said excitedly and hugged him. Now it would just be them and the world to travel. Together they grabbed their bags and set off for the airport. First stop was the UK.

Her hands subconsciously roamed her body just as his would on her. She zoned in and out of the memories and pretended he was there, running his hands along her torso. It wasn’t the same, but for just one moment she made herself believe he was there.

Now there’s an aching in my back, a stabbing pain that says I lack the common sense and confidence to bring an end to promises that I make in times of desperate conversation. Hoping my night could be better than theirs in the end, just say when.

A stabbing pain took her focus, making her gasp loudly. She grit her teeth and took slow deep breaths. She groaned and waited for the pain to subside to go back to her memories.

Nights filled with passion, days filled with adventures. She couldn’t get enough of it. They went back home every now and then to see their families for a bit. For the most part, they were inseparable. She loved that though. She loved being around him. She loved him.

Then the days changed and she hadn’t been feeling well. She assumed it was the flu because she had been vomiting a lot. It was then she started distancing herself from him, not wanting to be a downer with their plans. “Dear, wake up. It’s time to go out and explore. You’ve been cooped up here the past 2 days.” He explained. She hadn’t told him exactly how sick she had been feeling.

“You go.” She whispered, keeping her eyes closed and turning her back on him.

“Are you sure?” He asked, concerned.

“Can you just go and leave me alone for the damn day?!” She snapped at him. She had grown irritable lately. She turned and glared at him. Through the glare she could see how hurt he looked.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay? Are you okay, dear?” He asked softly.

“I just need to be alone fo fucking once! Jesus fucking Christ! I need some time to myself, don’t you fucking get that?” She snapped once more. He looked down then stood up and turned his back on her.

“Okay, I’ll be back tonight.” He whispered then started getting ready to leave. She waited for 20 minutes after he left then got out of bed and started getting ready for her lone mission. He couldn’t know what she was going to be doing today.

Don’t make this easy, I want you to mean it. Jasey, say you’ll mean it. You’re dressed to kill, I’m calling you out. Don’t waste your time on me.

She couldn’t make this easy on him. She needed him to feel like them not being together anymore was a good thing. She started as many arguments as she could. One night he stumbled into the hotel room drunk. “Have you been drinking?” She asked as if it wasn’t obvious. She tried to hide her hurt because it hurt knowing she was the cause of his excessive drinking.

“What do you think?” He scoffed.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” She asked, raising her voice at him.

“Nope.” He said, making the ‘p’ sound pop.

“God, it’s like I don’t even know you anymore.” She scoffed and walked to the bathroom. She quickly closed the bathroom door and locked it.

“You don’t know me anymore? I’m not the one that’s fucking changed!” He yelled through the door.

“You trying to say I’ve changed?” She asked.

“You’re not wrong.”

“How have I changed?”

“You were never this big of a bitch until a few months ago.”

“Fine, then don’t waste your precious time on me! Just tell me to leave and stop wasting your time!”

“Maybe I will!”

“So, that’s how you really feel, huh?” She asked, hitting the door before sliding to the floor and starting to silently cry.

I’ve never told a lie and that makes me a liar. I’ve never made a bet, but we gamble with desire. I’ve never lit a match with intent to start a fire, but recently the flames are getting out of control. Call me a name. Kill me with words. Forget about me, it’s what I deserve.

She knew she did it to herself and she knew she was lying to herself when she told herself that she deserved the hate she got from him. She pushed him to his limit every single day. Pushed him to say rude things he later apologized for. Finally she made her mind up on what to do.

They were getting ready to go to Sweden next. They left the next morning, but she had other plans for herself. Plans he wasn’t privy to. When he went out to get a few things, she sat down and wrote a note that he wouldn’t see for a little bit which she was fine with. He would read it when she was ready for him to.

She stopped the constant arguments and turned the nights back into love filled nights. She wished she hadn’t done that as it made her decision harder to follow through with, but it was too late now. Her plan was already made and things were already falling into place for it. So quickly she wrote. When she was done, she folded the paper and placed it in his bag under an article of clothing.

I was your chance to get out of this town, but I ditched the car and left you to wait outside. I hope the air will serve to remind you that my heart is as cold as the clouds of your breath and my words are as timed as the beating in my chest.

The next day was cold as they got ready to leave for Sweden. It was getting ready to be winter. She was still following through with her plan. “Fuck.” She whispered loud enough for him to hear as they walked through the lobby of the hotel.

“What is it?” He asked softly.

“I just realized I left my charger in the hotel room. Can you go get it for me?” She asked. “I’ll wait right here for you.”

“Yeah, I’ll be right back.” He said with a nod and turned around to go back on the elevator. As soon as he was in it and going up, she walked outside as fast as she could and got the taxi she called while in the bathroom pretending to shower.

“To the airport please.” She said quickly. She was going home. She had to. He walked into their room and looked around. He checked everywhere, but couldn’t find her charger. Finally he gave up and went back down to the lobby.

“I think you packed it-” He cut himself off when he realized she wasn’t waiting for him. He sighed and looked down. He knew this day would come, he just always wished it wouldn’t. She let fears fuel her life. It was inevitable that she would leave him at some point. Why had he fallen for that trick? He shook his head and went to the front desk to check out. Then he started on his trip to Sweden.

He didn’t think he should find her right now. Not after all their arguments lately. Not when she made it clear in the moment that she had made up her mind. You couldn’t change that woman’s mind once it was made up. On the way to Sweden, he wanted to charge his phone and started to search his bag for his charger. He felt a piece of paper and pulled it out and read it.

“I can’t do this anymore. I just have to leave. It’s nothing you said or did. It’s really just all me. I will always love you…but I can never see you again. Don’t come after me. Don’t message me. Please just block me on everything and forget about me. You don’t need me fucking up your life anymore. Have a good life. Enjoy traveling. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine.” The letter said.

She still remembered those days so clearly. She avoided every person in the airport that looked even remotely like him. Her best friend picked her up from the airport and brought her home. Once she was home, she got on her phone and blocked him on every social media. She knew he wouldn’t do it. He didn’t need her in his life and didn’t have to see what she was up to in life. With a sigh, she turned on her side and forced herself to sleep. She needed to stop thinking about that. That was all 6 months ago. She shouldn’t keep holding onto it, but she did.

*6 Years Later*

“Sweetheart, why don’t you go get a piece of candy. You’ve been doing really good in school.” She said to her little boy. With a nod he skipped off through the store. She chuckled and kept walking, continuing to shop. That is until she had zoned out and ran into someone else’s cart. “I am so sorry about that, I must’ve zoned out.” She said then looked at the person. Almost instantly she recognized him and took in a sharp breath. “Oh my god, it’s you.”

“The one and only. What? Did you think I died? That’s impossible.” He said that usual arrogant attitude was still there.

“No, I just didn’t think you’d come back here. I thought you’d stay out of the country. You always liked that better.” She whispered.

“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I’m only here temporarily.” He explained.

“Oh, okay.” She said as her son came running back.

“Mommy! Mommy! Look what I got!” He said excitedly. She looked down at him with a big smile as he waved a KitKat bar in the air.

“Oooo, our favorite! Why don’t you put it in the cart, baby?” She asked, he nodded excitedly and put it in the cart then stood on the end, holding onto the basket happily.

“You have a kid?” Her old friend asked, reminding her who she ran into.

“I do.” She said softly.

“How old is he?” Her ex asked curiously looking at the young boy.

“He’s 5.” She promised herself she would NEVER tell him he has a kid. He never wanted any, so why should she put that on him now? It’s too late now.

“Wait, what?” He asked, confused. He was already piecing together whether it was his son or not.

“Don’t even try to think that. I had a one night stand as soon as I got home to get over you. Don’t worry about it. I have to go. I have to get to his Parent Teacher Conference.” She said curtly. With that she went to finish her shopping. She felt bad for lying to him, but he never wanted to have any kids. She could NEVER tell him the truth. He would have dropped everything to be there with her through it, but he didn’t want kids and she wasn’t going to make him drop everything for something he never really wanted.

Could you fall in love with me? Ohoh. Love is such a mind blowing mystery. I know you’re very busy, and the timing’s not quite right, but I would take a bus on a late Sunday night to see you. To see you.

As she walked around checking on everyone, she finally walked up to him. The cute pilot. He was sitting alone and looked deep in thought. “Hey, (JN).” She said with a smile. He looked at her and gave a small smile.

“Princess.” He said with a small nod.

“How are you holding up?” She sat down next to him. Everyone was a little out of it since they had lost Diego.

“I’m good. Don’t worry about me, Princess.” He tried to act like everything was fine, but she could see the sadness behind his eyes.

“Jake…I’m scared too.” She whispered looking into his eyes.

“Probably not scared about the same thing as me.” He mumbled quietly and looked away.

“What?” She tried to get him to look at her once more, but he wouldn’t.

“Nothing to worry about, Princess.” He said with his signature smirk. She could hear the lie in his voice though and didn’t trust it one bit. She placed a hand on him and squeezed.

“Jake, please talk to me.” She begged. He pulled away from her touch.

“Already told ya, Princess, I’m fine.” With that he got up and walked away. For a moment she thought of leaving him alone, but then she noticed him try to sneakily look back at her. Slowly she got up and followed him. He took the stairs all the way up to the roof. She found him near the edge of the building, staring off into the distance. He must’ve known she was following him as he didn’t even turn to her when he spoke once more.

“The only thing wrong is that I stupidly fell in love with someone I can’t have especially if we never get out of here, and they likely don’t feel the same for me. We’ve had a couple moments, but that doesn’t mean they feel the same for me. Besides, the timing really isn’t right.” He said honestly.

“If it helps at all, I completely understand that. I feel the same way.” She admitted quietly. She had fallen in love with the snarky pilot. Something about him always pulled her in. She didn’t know what it was about him. Then again, she always loved being around mysterious people and if he was anything he was definitely mysterious sometimes. Sometimes he could be an open book and sometimes he would put walls up.

“You do?” He was skeptical and raised an eyebrow at her.

“Yes, I do.” She admitted softly.

“With Captain America, right? Or is it Pippi Longstocking? Or Sarah Conner? I see how you are around them.” He had his signature smirk, but there was hurt in his eyes. He WANTS it to be him, he just doesn’t think it would be. How could it be? He wasn’t the most optimistic or best person she could choose of the group on this island.

“If you see how I am with them then you should’ve realized how I am with you too.” Her words shocked him. He tried to hide his shock and forced the smirk to be all that was shown.

“I do, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.” He needed her to explicitly say it was him for him to believe it. He just couldn’t believe that it could be him.

Could you be my boyfriend? Ohoh. Boys are such a big book that I’ve barely read. I know that you’re much older and you’ve had many lovers, but there’s no place I’d rather be than underneath the covers next to you, next to you.

She didn’t say a word. Instead, she leaned in and softly pressed her lips to his. “Does that mean anything to you?” She whispered the question when she pulled away. She couldn’t read his expression.

“As if I haven’t seen you kiss the girls I named. Maybe you just wanted to kiss me.” He whispered, hurt clear in his voice. She took a deep breath before speaking again.

“Could you fall in love with me?” She whispered. When he didn’t say anything back, she took another deep breath and spoke a little louder. “Could you be my boyfriend?”

“Wait, what?” He did a double take, unable to believe his ears.

“I know you’re older than me by a few years and you’ve probably had many lovers where I’ve had very few, but I just wanna be with you. I want to sleep together every night and-” He cut her words off with a passionate kiss, he couldn’t hold back any longer.

“I want that too.”

And I’m telling myself to be patient, and I’m telling myself to wait. ‘Cause when it comes to your love, I over anticipate. And I know that I’ve done this before, and I know that I can’t predict fate, but when it comes to your love I over anticipate.

“I’ve been imagining you saying that, but I never thought you would. I’ve been trying to be so patient with waiting for a sign that you felt the same. We can’t predict fate or if we’ll ever get off this island. If we do, I know you can’t set foot in the US, but I’ll do anything to make it work. I don’t even know if we’ll live through all this to even have the chance of making it off this island. All I know is I want to be with you so goddamn bad.”

“MC, I want that too.” He whispered as he tucked a loose hair behind her ear and stared into her eyes.

“Do you wanna come with me to my room?” She asked softly. He carefully pressed her body to his.

“Yeah…yeah, I do.” He said, standing up and taking her hand in his. Their fingers laced together. They used the stairs and walked hand-in-hand to her room. Once in there they locked the door so no one would be able to walk in and interrupt them. Jake instantly started covering her in a frenzy of kisses. Some were soft, sweet, and passionate while others were rough, hot, and passionate.

“Oh god, Jake, yes!” She moaned out as he bit down hard on her neck. She pushed his jacket down off his arms and onto the floor. She pushed him away to take her shirt off and he did the same. She took the break to lean forward to him. She bit and nibbled on his neck, nipping his neck, collarbone, and chest. His hands moved down and worked on unbuttoning and unzipping her shorts then pulling them down. He then took his own pants off as well as her bra.

He slipped his hand into her panties and started rubbing her. “Mmmm, Jake, right there.” She gasped. His touch made her melt. She held on to him tightly so she wouldn’t fall as her legs were starting to feel like jello. Suddenly he just stopped and stared into her eyes.

“God, I want you so bad.” He practically growled, lust and love in his eyes. She leaned forward until her lips were right next to his ear.

“Why don’t you take what you want, then?” She whispered seductively. With that, he picked her up and threw her down on the bed. Just as quickly as he threw her down, he was on top of her. His mouth traveled all over her body, licking, kissing, and nipping everywhere he could. His calloused hands ran along every inch of her body. “Oh, fuck!” She gasped as his hand stopped between her thighs and stripped her of her underwear. His hand moved back between her thighs and he slipped a finger inside her then quickly added a second while his tongue went to work on the most sensitive part of her.

She gasped and put a hand in his hair, grabbing a fistfull. Her back arched in pleasure and she let out a moan. “Oh, fuck, I’m close!” She hissed at him. He loved what he was doing to her, but stopped suddenly. She whimpered at him stopping. He stood up and stripped himself of his boxers then positioned himself in between her legs. Slowly, he pushed his member into her until all of it was in her. She gasped as each inch went in. He smiled down at her and kissed her as he started to thrust in and out of her.

He started off slow, but with encouragement from her he started going faster. He brought his hand down once more to rub her while he fucked her. “Oh, fuck, Jake, I’m gonna…” She whispered and he nodded.

“Me too, Princess.” He whispered back between thrusts. In seconds they both simultaneously reached their climaxes. Jake rode out his high then rolled off her and laid down next to her. He looked at her with a big smile. “That was something else, Princess. But so was last night.” He whispered and winked. Last night was their first time before the Watchers showed up and stole Diego. She slowly turned to him as her thoughts raced.

So I’m making big plans to see you, ‘cause I think that we could be great. Yes, when it comes to your love, I over anticipate. Could you fall in love with me? Ohoh. Will I solve this mystery? I’m bracing for a letdown, ‘cause I know you like your space, but my head is full of love songs that I just can’t erase about you, about you, about you.

“(JN)...” She whispered, fear barely noticeable in her voice.

“What’s wrong?” He asked her instantly.

“When we get off this island, I’d really like to come see you in Costa Rica.” She said softly, closing her eyes so she wouldn’t have to look at him. He placed a soft kiss on her forehead before placing another kiss on her lips.

“I’d love that (MC).” He answered sincerely. She let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding in and opened her eyes to look at him. She thought it was all talk and he’d turn her down.

“Could you fall in love with me?”

“Oh, Princess, I already have.”

________________________________________________________________

I’m a ghost in your eyes. A shadow you can’t seem to recognize. I have a thought of you for every star in the sky, but I’m scared I’ll never cross your mind. Yeah, I’m scared.

Drake had known from the minute he saw her as their waitress that he wanted her. He also knew he couldn’t have her. She lived in New York and he lived in Cordonia. That changed when she was flying with them to Cordonia because Maxwell wanted her to be his house’s girl and in the running to marry (P/N).

He couldn’t stand Maxwell at that point. Not only had he wanted to know this girl and maybe date her in the future, now he had to sit back and watch her compete for the love of his best friend. The same best friend could give her everything and was already head over heels for her. Instead of doing what he wanted by being close with her and getting to know her, he pushed her away all the time and practically everything he would say to her was a snide comment.

He had to make her think he hated her. Maybe then it would hurt less when she became queen. He pushed the thoughts away, taking a swig of his whiskey. He had hoped he was just a ghost to her, a shadow, anything that just wasn’t him and wouldn’t be recognized as anything but someone who ‘hated’ her. That was the problem though, he didn’t hate her. He loved her.

Every time he stared at the stars he wished she was there and imagined seeing constellations that looked like her. So beautiful and out there. He probably never even crossed her mind. Or at least he thought until that night, he had just saved her from Tariq’s unwanted advances. She was lucky enough he walked by and heard some of the commotion that night.

And I can’t count the times. I stayed awake pretending you were mine. Now I’m left with this emptiness inside. Oh, why can’t I make mine?

He relaxes back into his chair, fiddling with the glass of whiskey on the desk in front of him. His mind raced. He couldn’t help but remember the times he stayed awake at night letting his imagination run wild. After imaging so many different things consisting of him and her together. Knowing it was always just something that happened in his mind he felt empty inside.

He knew he needed to stop thinking about these things. This was the woman his best friend is in love with. He can’t have these thoughts about her. He remembered nights that he felt like screaming into the night wondering why they couldn’t have just met under different circumstances and she could be hers.

Downing the rest of the whiskey, he stood up and walked to the stables and found her horse. (H/N) was a beautiful horse, her owner being beautiful too was just a perfect match anytime (MC) had the chance to ride her. He smiled and grabbed a brush and started brushing her. After brushing her, he walked back to the castle. He found his way to the bar again, but it was closed so he searched behind the bar. (P/N) wouldn’t mind. He grabbed a bottle of whiskey and placed some money in its place before walking back to the stables.

He climbed up into the hay loft and sat down before opening the bottle and started drinking. If he was going to get drunk while thinking about her, it wasn’t going to be somewhere anyone could easily find him. He couldn’t keep her off his mind tonight.

Will our stars ever align? Will two hearts beat in time? These words you should always remember, to you, my heart I surrender. Chasing love that could never be mine. Maybe one day you’ll realize. These words you should always remember, to you, my heart I surrender.

He remembered how she looked at him after he saved her from the potential r@pe. The confessions that night. It was all too much. He kept taking swigs from the bottle and felt as if it was really starting to affect him. He zoned out into a memory of that night.

He went to leave, but she stopped him. She moved in front of the door and glared at him. “Drake, you got hurt for me. I’m not letting you leave this room until you let me take a look at you.” With a sigh he stopped. There was no nice way around it. “You can start by taking your shirt off. I think he hit your ribs pretty hard. They could be broken.” She said, concern being the only thing showing in her eyes.

“Wow, you’ve got a real bossy side to you, you know that?” He asked, but he kinda liked how bossy she was being. It was kind of hot to him.

“You think I’m being bossy?” She asked and he nodded in response. She glared once more. “PLEASE take your shirt off, Sir Drake.” She said sarcastically.

“Well, all you had to do was ask nicely.” He tried his best to hide a smile. She really was adorable. He slowly sat in a chair and took his shirts off and watched as she started looking at his chest. “So, doctor, see anything alarming?” He felt her hands roam his torso. Fleeting over his ribs and back, he tried his damndest to hide how much he loved feeling her touch. She can never know he likes her.

“You’re going to have a few spectacular bruises…” He could have sworn he could hear hurt in her voice. He wouldn’t look at her face.

“Yeah, Tariq hits harder than you’d think. He almost impressed me.” He said nonchalantly. It was true. He had never expected someone like Tariq to hit as hard as he did. She stayed quiet and had a sad look. He took a deep breath before speaking once more. “What is it?”

“I can’t believe you got hurt because of me. It’s all my fault.” She whispered. He couldn’t believe she thought it was her fault. How could it be her fault? He couldn’t help it when his bout of anger came out.

“No, I got hurt because of Tariq. Nothing that happened tonight was your fault. Don’t ever let yourself think like that, okay, (MC/LN).” He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair to try and calm himself down. He stared at her. Opening his mouth once more. “You can be so…never mind.” He stopped himself from saying more. He didn’t want her to get the wrong idea. “Hey, weren’t you supposed to be tending to my wounds?”

“Oh! Right. I think one of the servants fills this bucket of ice every night. You know, just in case I need to chill some champagne.” She said getting back on the subject of what she was supposed to be doing. God she’s beautiful and adorable.

“Or ice down a friend’s bruises?” He suggested with clear amusement in his voice but not showing in his facial expression.

“Exactly.” She said as he glanced around the room. He was doing his damndest to not look at her for long periods of time.

“And it looks like someone’s left a fully stocked liquor cabinet in the corner here, so…” He got up for a second and grabbed a bottle of whiskey as she wrapped ice in a cloth. Drake poured himself a glass of the whiskey then turned to her to ask if she wanted some too as he sat back down.

“I wouldn’t make you drink alone.” She said with a very small smile. He chuckled quietly as he poured her a glass too.

“Thanks.” He said through his chuckle. He downed his glass of whiskey rather quickly as she pressed the cloth to the bruises forming on his ribs. He glared at her and almost hissed in pain. “Hey! That hurts!” He practically growled. He didn’t want to yell at her or anything, but it hurt and he couldn’t hold it back.

“Is that better?” She asked as she pressed the cloth more gently. He could tell how bad she felt for making him hurt more.

“Actually, yeah.” He said gratefully and honestly. He didn’t want her to feel bad. So he added on a joke with a big smile. “Didn’t realize you could be so gentle (MC/LN).”

“I’ve got a gentle side…you just don’t get to see it very often.” She didn’t notice his smile because she was checking his back.

“I could stand to see more of it.” He admitted. He liked this soft side of her. He turned to catch her eye and just stared into her eyes for a moment. When he looked away, he looked down at his empty glass the whiskey was in. “Thank you.” He said quietly. Slowly he poured himself another glass of whiskey. “I know I don’t act very grateful for anything most of the time, but I do…care about you.”

If anyone found out and was upset over him saying that, he would just blame it on the whiskey. He could say he had drank too much that day and didn’t remember it. Everyone knew he drank, some days more than others. He struggled with it in the past but hadn’t actually been drinking a lot since meeting (MC).

“Drake…I care about you too.” She admitted softly. He was surprised and looked at her once more.

“You…you do?” He was really surprised.

“Yes. Of course I do. I definitely don’t care about you as I’m sitting here icing your bruises.” She said sarcastically.

“You shouldn’t say things like that (MC/LN).”

“Why not?”

“You’re here for Prince (PN), all of the suitors are. And, well, so is the entire court. All of the nobles, all the royals, all the servants, even. Everything and everyone in this place exists to orbit around (PN). You could almost hate him for it, if he weren’t so damn likable. It’s dangerous for people like you and me to forget that.” With the last thing he said he tried to hide the hurt in his voice.

“What are you getting at, Drake?”

“Hell, (MC/LN). Don’t make me say it.” He looked down at the whiskey left in his glass. With a gulp he finished it off and spoke once more. “If we met somewhere else…anywhere else. At a club in New York, or in an airport, or at a party…if you hadn’t been our waitress that night, and I hadn’t been sitting next to (PN)…do you think all of this…do you think it could’ve been different…between us?” He couldn’t stop himself from asking that. He just had to know. It would drive him crazy if he never knew.

“Drake…it would’ve been different. Sure you would’ve still been druff and I wouldn’t have let you get away with anything…but all the rest? Yeah, it would’ve been different. Maybe everything would’ve been different.”

“MC…” He whispered in disbelief. Could she really have feelings for him too? He reached out and brushed his fingers against her hand before realizing what he was doing. He stopped himself. Why would he do this to (PN)? Anger at himself spiked inside him. “What am I doing?” He growled at himself. “I need to go.” He didn’t want to leave, but he knew he had to. He stood up and headed straight for the door. Suddenly he felt her arms around him, making him stop. “(MC/LN)…you shouldn’t…” He whispered, finally thinking straight. He can’t do this with the woman his best friend loves. He’ll never have her and letting this happen would just make everything worse. He quickly put his shirts on, on his way to the door.

“Don’t you get tired of being so careful all the time? I know I do…and now I have to be careful every damn day with what I do and say here. Everything.” She whispered into his back.

“I’m always tired of being careful.” He admitted. His heartbeat sped up. Without thinking, he turned around and pulled her close. His fingers tangled in her hair. Then he took a deep breath clearing his mind once more. He can’t be doing this. He pushed her away and turned to the door once more. “I’ve got to get out of here. Now. Before I do something we might both regret.”

“Okay.” She whispered.

He pushed the thought out of his mind. He had wanted to go back into her room afterwards, but instead he just daydreamed about what he wished happened instead. Most nights since then he’s been unable to stop imagining her in her underwear again and being close with her. He’d imagine pulling her close and kissing her without a care in the world. He thought about that and so much more. He knew he could never have it though. She would be queen soon enough. There was no way (P/N) wouldn’t choose her by the end of the social season, she’s wowed the press and everyone here.

She may like him, but she probably didn’t love him like he loved her. No, instead everything had to stay as a daydream. They would stay secret thoughts in his mind. Nobody could ever know that he too was in love with the waitress from New York. Though he wished desperately they could be together, he knew it would never happen and he had to be okay with that.

Jake McKenzie X MC

Pairing: Jake McKenzie X Female MC

(MC) = Main Characters Name

Word Count: 2852

________________________________________________________________

Listen, do you hear my heartbeat thump over the monitors? You pretend to close your eyes, don’t breathe in. Pieces of candy and leaks of light paint the floor ‘round me, then without hesitating…

We ran through the building, dodging bullets. Lundgren’s crew was after us, paid off by Rourke. I looked over towards Jake who was running beside me. Everyone else in our group had disappeared while we all were running from these hired guns, splitting up hoping to have more of a chance for survival. I could feel my lungs closing up, losing breath from sprinting for so long.

Jake was scared. I could see it on his face. I didn’t need to see his eyes to tell just how scared he was. Neither of us wanted to lose the other let alone anyone in our group. Involuntarily I started to slow down. It was then that my legs gave out and I smacked down to the floor on my face.

“MC! C’mon Princess, we gotta keep going!”

“I…I can’t get up, Jake!” I exclaimed to him in fear. His eyes clouded with something I couldn’t read as more gunshots went off towards us. He ducked out of the way. I could feel myself slowly slipping away, still unable to take in much breath. “Just get out of here, Jake! Save yourself! Please!” I pleaded before everything went black.

I awoke to the faint sound of a heart monitor, but didn’t dare show I was awake. I listened for any sign of anyone. I would be damned if I woke up and saw Rourke or Lundgren’s faces. When I was sure I heard no one, I slowly blinked open my eyes to bright white lights. My eyes slowly adjusted to the light and landed on a figure sleeping sitting up in a chair with their arms crossed over their chest. Jake!

“Jake?” I asked, my voice cracking as if I hadn’t used it in a long time. He shifted in his sleep and opened his eyes. His beautiful blue eyes met mine and he gasped. Quickly he stood up and took my hand in his.

“Princess, you’re awake.” He said, relief clear in his voice. I looked around again, fully recognizing it as a hospital. A real hospital.

“Jake, where are we?” I was confused. Did Jake make a deal with Lundgren or Rourke for me to be safe and us to get off that island? “Don’t tell me you made a deal with those fuckers.” Now he looked really confused.

“Princess, what are you talking about?” He looked genuinely confused. “Maybe I should get the doctor. You don’t recognize this place?” I looked around once more and shook my head.

“No, I don’t. Where are we, Joker.”

“We’re in Shreveport.”

“Wait…we’re back in the states? I thought you had a huge bounty and aren’t allowed here.”

“Princess, that was a LONG time ago. I’m gonna go get the doctor, something is wrong with your memory.”

Without waiting for a response he walked out of the room. I could faintly hear his voice as well as another.

“She only seems to remember around the time we met. I don’t know what is going on with her memory, but she just woke up.” I could hear the concern from where I laid.

“She likely was in a deep coma dream she believed to be a reality. She has been in this coma for 4 months. It should go away after some time and she’ll remember the reality of her life after that. Why don’t you introduce her to Mike?” Was suggested to him by who I figured was my doctor. I had been in a coma for 4 months?

“What if she doesn’t remember him? That would crush him. He loves her.” Jake explained softly.

“Then explain to her exactly who he is. That’s all you can do for her right now.” The doctor explained.

“I just really don’t want him to be hurt if she doesn’t remember him. Imagine your mom forgetting who you are.” Jake said sadly. That’s when it hit me what they were talking about. Jake and I have a son? A son we named Mike? Mike after Jake’s best friend who died which is the reason he wasn’t allowed on US soil.

“What the fuck is going on?” I whispered to myself. My heartbeat sped up. I ripped everything off of me and any needles out of me then stood up. The machines started going crazy. My legs were weak.

“Mrs. McKenzie, you need to calm down and get back in bed.” The doctor urged calmly, walking into the room and looking at me.

“No! Not until someone explains to me what’s going on!” I yelled.

“Princess, please.” Jake begged with tears in his eyes.

“No…I can’t.” I whispered then felt a pinch in the back of my neck. They had enough time to get me back to the hospital bed before everything went black once more.

Creeping through these labyrinths I find another dead end to the weekend, but is this real life? Paper hearts turned ash begin to fly over our heads I begin screaming while the exit signs read “Heaven’s Waiting”.

“C’mon Princess, come back to me. MC please. I can’t fuckin’ lose you too. Not you.” Was the pleading voice I awoke to. I was back on La Huerta. The jungle surrounding us. I noticed blood on his hands. His pleas stopped as he stared into my eyes. “Princess?” he asked. Now I noticed the tears hidden in his eyes.

“Jake…I…what’s going on?” I asked softly, so confused with everything.

“You passed out while we were being chased. I had to get you out of there.” He whispered. “Are you feeling okay right now?”

“Not really.” I whispered. I couldn’t stop thinking about how real it felt to be in that hospital bed. What is my reality? This or the hospital?

“Do you think you can walk? I think we’re safe for now. I haven’t heard any gunshots or seen anyone in a while.” He said looking around once more.

“Yeah, I can walk.” I said softly and stood up. My legs shook, but I held steady. He watched me cautiously. He carefully took my hand in his and led me away from where we were. Every step was careful and light. My mind raced with these two realities I was faced with. “Jake.” I whispered and stopped mosing which made him stop too. He looked at me concerned and confused.

“What’s wrong Princess?” He asked. I looked down, not wanting to keep looking into his eyes. I saw his hand move as he went to cup my face. One of his fingers snaked under my chin and lifted my head so we were looking into each other’s eyes. His face was ridden with concern. “MC, please talk to me.”

“If you had a son and you got to name him yourself, what would you name him?” I asked carefully.

“Is now really the time?” He asked, running a frustrated hand through her hair.

“Just answer the question…please.” I begged, tears forming in my eyes. If he says Mike I don’t know what I’ll do. He seemed to think for a moment before answering.

“I’d like to name a son after Mike. Before you he was one of the only people I ever really got close with. Before he died, we had joked that he’d name his first so Jacob and I’d name mine Mike. We had plans for girls, but I can’t remember those now.” He chuckled then paused as a dark expression fell on his face.

“What’s wrong Joker?” I asked, concerned. He shook it off and forced a smile.

“Nothing, Princess. Let’s keep going.” He said and started walking again. This time he didn’t take my hand. He was distancing himself. After walking for some time, we found the rest of our group once more in the Vaanti Village. There Vaaryn was getting patched up and Diego looked scared. I waited until no one would notice before slipping away from everyone. I went outside the village and sat on a cliff face, looking out at the ocean. It wasn’t long before someone came and sat down next to me. I didn’t have to look to know who it was.

And I said “Hey, what’s on your mind?” I think about my life without you and I start to cry. And I said “Hey, it’s alright. We’ll make it, I love you, and I’ll never leave your side. Whoa oh

“Hey, what’s on your mind?” His smooth voice, his southern accent making me feel giddy inside.

“What if we met some other way? Like what if you had fought to prove your innocence and we met somewhere in the states instead of here? Do you think we still would’ve gotten together?” I asked as I felt tears sliding down my cheeks. I couldn’t handle the thought of not having him in my life.

“What’s bringing all these questions about?” He asked softly, caressing my cheek.

“While I was out, I had this dream that we had a son named Mike and we lived in your hometown back in the US. We were never on this island or maybe we were and had actually made it back home. I don’t know! I don’t know what was going on! I just know I was in a hospital and apparently had been in a coma for at least 4 months.” The tears kept coming and I couldn’t stop them no matter how hard I tried. Jake leaned forward and softly kissed my lips.

“Hey, it’s alright. We’ll make it home one day, MC.” He whispered sincerely.

“I love you Jacob McKenzie.” I whispered through my tears. “I’ll never leave your side as long as I’m alive.” His normal smirk started to paint his lips.

“You literally just left my side, Princess. I had to come find you.” He said with a light chuckle behind his words. I gave him a soft playful shove and let out a laugh.

“Geeze Jake and here I thought you would’ve been smart enough to know what I meant.” I teased him. He tried to pretend to be hurt, but couldn’t stop the smile from taking over his lips.

You took my hand and then we both started running, both started running, there’s no place to go. Another bullet and we both started running, both started running too. Whoa oh whoa oh. Save yourself, don’t ever look back. Whoa oh. Nowhere to go and so we both spin around in circles. Oh, let’s go!

“Are you coming to bed, Princess?” Jake asked as I continued to sit outside.

“Yeah, I’m coming.” With that I stood up and followed Jake to our room. It didn’t take long for me to fall asleep which wasn’t surprising after all the running we did today. It didn’t feel like long before I opened my eyes once more. However, when I opened my eyes I was back in the hospital. “Fuck, I have to get out of here. This can’t be real!” I whispered to myself and looked around. I didn’t see anyone so I carefully pulled the IV out of my arm and took the EKG stickers off of me. I got up and snuck around. I almost made it to the stairs door in the hallway when a voice stopped me.

“I told them you wouldn’t do this again. I guess I was wrong about that. I’m the only reason you weren’t confined to the bed, strapped down. You shouldn’t be up.” Came Jake’s voice. I stopped and turned to him.

“Trust me, Jake, we need to get out of here. This doesn’t feel real.” I said quickly but quietly and grabbed his hand, pulling towards the stairs but he wouldn’t move.

“No. Not until you tell me why we have to go…why you’re so stuck on leaving.” He whispered, a sadness in his eyes.

“Fine, but not here and not back in that room. Somewhere they won’t see us easily.” I whispered then led him to a nearby janitor’s closet. “What do you remember about La Huerta?”

“What’s that got to do with this?” Jake asked, confused.

“Please just answer the question for me.” I begged. I needed to know what had happened in this reality or dream, whatever it was.

“I used to fly entitled people there before Rourke died and his son took over, destroying all of the business places his dad had built. That was all over the news a couple years ago. Right around the time we met.” Jake explained.

“Aleister took over?” I asked, making him look at me confused.

“Yeah, I guess…you know him? His name was never mentioned, I figured he paid off the press to not say his first name. I didn’t even think Rourke would have a kid.” Jake explained. The room around us was distorted a bit. Something was wrong.

“Jake, you know him too. You took me and a bunch of kids I went to school with there. We got stuck there thanks to Rourke. Joker, wake up. This life isnt real yet. We don’t have a son yet.” I said in a pleading tone. The room was distorted more. He needed to see this wasn’t real life.

“What the hell are you talking about, Princess?” He asked and ran a confused hand through his hair.

“Listen to me, Jake. This isn’t real. Something’s wrong and you need to wake up and see what I see!” As I spoke the room began to distort again. What was once a janitor’s closet in a hospital now looked like a weapon storage. I wondered if Jake could see it too. “Jake, please just believe me. Look around you, this isn’t a janitor’s closet! Please wake up!”

“Aleister. Aleister. Aleister. Aleister. Isn’t he…” Jake trailed off, rubbing his hand on his forehead as if he now had a headache.

“Yes! Isn’t he what? Keep pushing!” I urged him as he rubbed his eyes.

“Isn’t he…with that…one girl…Brain Trust…uh…” Jake was struggling to find the right words. After a moment he looked around before really meeting my eyes. As soon as our eyes met, he pulled me into a tight hug. “Oh, Princess. I thought I lost you.” He whispered. “They shot your leg with some kind of tranq, I tried to carry you off but I just couldn’t make it. Vaaryn and Diego found us and he pulled me away from you. I was so mad.”

“So you remember now?” I asked softly. Slowly he pulled away and nodded.

“Yes, we’re still on La Huerta Island. We gotta go. We have to get out of here.” He whispered urgently. Then he looked around once more as a small smirk played on his lips. “You chose the right room. Grab something, a pistol might be best, and let’s go. We have to find everyone else. I was the only one who they were able to capture. You know I can’t leave you behind. They tried to reason with me that we’d save you, but you know me.”

“Jake, what is this place?” I asked, I had to know what happened.

“A small medical facility made by Rourke. Lundgren’s men brought us here when they captured us. I promised not to kill everyone as long as you stayed safe.” He said, his voice filled with regret. “They trapped me in some hallucination where we were in Shreveport and had a son.”

“They probably knew I would figure it out. I had two different hallucinations. I couldn’t tell which was real. I guess neither really was.” I whispered and grabbed a couple pistols from the room while Jake grabbed some pistols and what looked to be an AR. “Let’s get out of here.” We started sneaking around the building quietly. It wasn’t until we got out of the building that we were spotted.

“Shit, go, go, go! I’m right behind you!” Jake commanded. I grabbed his hand before taking off running. He held a pistol in his free hand firing back at the people chasing us. We ran as fast as we could. Jake eventually took the lead. Bullets flew near us and we both shot back when we could.

Suddenly I didn’t see a tree root sticking out so far and tripped over it, letting Jake’s hand go. When he realized I wasn’t behind him he took cover behind a tree and looked back at me. He looked like he was gonna come back, but Lundgren’s people were gaining on me. “Go! Don’t look back and just go! I’ll find you!” I yelled to him as I forced myself to my feet. He hesitated before nodding and running off. As quick as I could, I forced my feet to move as fast as I could in the opposite direction. We will survive this. I will find him. We will have a life together. We will get that fake reality we were shown. We will.

GINASFS

The Royal Romance

Drake X MC

Summary: A oneshot based off the Fall Out Boy song GINASFS. This is based off of choosing the blonde and blue eyed Liam as the Prince in the first book and my MC that I kept named Riley but last name being Dixon, takes place during the second book. It’s also very personal for me.

Pairing: Drake X MC

Word Count: 3842

TW: Suicidal thoughts/actions, depression, ED, self harm

________________________________________________________________

I’ve loved everything about you that hurts, so let me see your moves, let me see your moves lips pressed close to mine. True blue, but the Prince of any failing empire knows that everybody wants, everybody wants, to drive on through the night if it’s the drive back home.

For a while, she thought she loved him. She thought she wanted to be with him. Those were her only thoughts. She loved him and THAT’S why she was here. It didn’t matter that someone dragged her name through the mud and framed her so she now had to clear her name. It didn’t matter that she didn’t get to see him or be around him alone much anymore. Hell, it didn’t even matter she could forever be “the other woman”.

Nothing mattered…until it did. Until it hit her that that’s not how she should live her life. Until it hit her that she should never have gone to Cordonia. She should’ve stayed home in New York where she could easily visit her family or have them visit her. She had gotten some bad news from back home recently, but hadn’t told anyone. She just wished she had the ability to get in a car and just drive home, but that’s not easy especially when you aren’t even on the same continent.

She used to love his blue eyes. They could stop her in her tracks so quickly. One look and she’d freeze or melt depending on the situation. The first time she saw them they froze her. More often they’ve melted her. They made her feel happy, but tonight they just couldn’t. She felt like they weren’t any closer to finding out who set her and Tariq up that night when Drake had to come save her. No matter how hard she tried, everything just seemed to fail. She had to pretend to be fine so much the past few months. Especially here on the Engagement Tour.

She loved his kisses. They gave her purpose. They helped her feel wanted. They reminded her why she was here. However tonight that didn’t happen. Every kiss after sneaking away to make sure she was okay didn’t help. Instead she just felt empty. That’s all she ever felt lately. Empty.

He had noticed the change in her as soon as it started when it seemed no one else did. Not Hanna, not Liam, not Maxwell, only him. He noticed how out of it and withdrawn she had become. How she stopped spending any possible moment given with Liam, instead she’d ditch the royals and spend time with him, the commoner. He noticed how all of her smiles seemed forced or fake now. He could tell she was breaking. As soon as he tried to ask what was wrong, she’d put her walls up just like him and tell him she’s fine then either change the subject or walk away.

He watched once more as she slipped away unnoticed by the royals from the party. Slowly he snuck off and followed after her. “Dixon, what are you doing out here?” She turned to him and forced a smile.

“I just need to get some fresh air. No worries.” With that she turned and walked back towards the doors. She had started to look a little more pale recently. He could faintly hear what sounded like her stomach growling.

“Do you wanna go get some real food with me? I saw a restaurant on the way here.” He explained and took a few more steps towards her.

“I’m not hungry.” She whispered and kept walking away.

“God dammit, Riley!” He growled frustrated and ran a hand through his hair. She stopped and turned on him with a glare.

“What?” She asked angrily. He could see the fire in her eyes. That was at least a step up from faking happiness all the time.

“Just talk to me! What’s wrong?” He asked again for the hundredth time it felt like. The anger quickly faded and the fake smile came back.

“Oh, Drake, nothing’s wrong. I’m okay. I promise.” The lie slipped easily through her lips, but he knew better than to believe it especially after the anger she just showed.

“You really think I’m gonna buy that? You’re not okay, you haven’t BEEN okay, so stop putting up these walls and just talk to me about it.” He pleaded. She laughed dryly with little to no emotion.

“Oh you’re one to talk, aren’t you Mr. I-Will-Shut-Down-And-Push-You-Away-As-Soon-As-You-Ask-About-SomethingI-Don’t-Want-To-Talk-About? Save it Drake. You don’t care. I’m ‘just like them’ or have you forgotten? I’m not ‘like myself’ anymore, remember? I don’t ‘act like a commoner’ anymore, right? Get the fuck out of here with that ‘talk about it’ shit because YOU never do so why should I? Plus I’m now a part of the group of people you hate, a royal. I don’t matter or have feelings anymore, right? Do me a favor Drake and just leave me the FUCK alone.”

Her words sliced into him, but he knew he deserved it. She didn’t deserve this. She didn’t deserve anything he or the others had put her through. She didn’t deserve to feel so alone, so worthless. She turned away from me and started walking away again, but he ran after her this time and grabbed her hand and stopped her. She always had a way with making him feel things whether he wanted to or not.

“Riley, you have feelings and you aren’t like them. Your feelings matter. I…care…so…deeply for you. Just please talk to me.” He whispered sincerely, struggling to admit his feelings. He wanted so badly to just pull her to him and kiss her and make all these feelings go away, but she was here for Liam. Her cold, hardened expression faltered  for a second, but only a second.

“No, you’re lying! I can’t believe any of that! It can’t be true.” She seethed and ripped her hand from his grasp.

“I promise you that I’m not lying and it’s the truth.” He pleaded with her, his heart sinking as she still looked unconvinced.

“Why would it be true? All I know is what I’ve seen and that’s that you hate me.” She said as she turned and walked away. He didn’t know what to do so he finally decided to just give in and admit exactly how he felt. So without repressing it he just let his mouth speak what he wouldn’t even admit in his brain.

“Because I’m falling for you! I could never hate you! I’ve tried so goddamn hard and I just can’t hate you, but I also can’t believe you’d want me over Liam. He’s the reason you’re here.” He called out to her, making her stop for a second. She stood there and he thought about catching up to her, but then she sprinted off. Her high heeled shoes clicked on the ground with each step. He forced a hand into his hair. “Fuck.” He whispered to himself and walked the opposite way.

I’ve already given up on myself twice, but the third time is the charm, third time is the charm. Threw caution to the wind, but I’ve got a lousy arm, and I’ve traced your shadows on the wall, now I kiss them whenever I’m down, whenever I’m down, just kind of figured on not figuring myself out.

She ran to her room and knew exactly what she planned to do. She couldn’t handle it anymore. She had to do something. As soon as she was in her room, she sat down and started writing a note to Maxwell who would undoubtedly be the first one to come to her room. She hadn’t opened up to them about all the mistakes and bad decisions she’s made in her life. She didn’t want them to know about those things.

Throughout her life she managed to figure out how to get through this. She would love to sit down and figure out how she would get through what she was going through now, but that just didn’t seem like it was gonna happen at all. As she wrote the note to her friends but specifically addressed to Maxwell.

He was on his way to the bar to get a drink, but something kept stopping him and telling him to go back and follow her. She wasn’t okay and she shouldn’t be alone. Finally, he just gave in to the feeling and ran towards her room. That’s where he thought she would’ve gone since she never went back to whatever event was going on tonight. When he approached her door he could hear her talking but no other voice. He didn’t know who to, but he assumed it was on the phone since he didn’t hear another voice. He decided to listen in on her conversation, but could only make out bits and pieces of what she was saying. Her voice would waver between whispers and talking louder, so it was a little hard to hear through the door.

“I don’t…I’m sorry…I’ve made up my mind. I’m coming to be with you…See you soon.” Was all He could make out before he heard her footsteps. He quickly moved his head away from the door then pretended he walked up and knocked. After a few moments, she opened the door. “What do you want, Drake?” She spoke monotone now, he wasn’t used to not hearing any emotion in her voice.

“I’m worried about you, I don’t want you alone. Maxwell said he’s hardly seen you eat this past week. Why don’t we go get some food.” He begged her. Suddenly the fake smile was back as was a fake happiness in her voice when she spoke.

“Drake, I’m okay. I’m just really tired, but I’m going back to the ball. I’m not supposed to miss it. Maybe if I’m lucky they still haven’t noticed I’m missing.” With that she pushed past him and walked away. He knew he had to follow her, but she couldn’t see him. He followed from a distance. Unfortunately for him, she was short and he kept losing her despite himself being tall.

He watched her look around and finally duck into a hotel. He waited until she got into the elevator to walk up to it and see what floor she got off on, the top floor. His heart started to race and he sprinted up the stairs to the top floor just in time to see her go around a corner. He followed and saw it was another set of stairs.

I was born under a bad sign, but you saved my life that night on the roof of your hotel. “Cross my heart and hope to die, splinter from the headboard in my eye”. Photo Booth kisses I remember so well.

The sign for that next set of stairs said they went up to the roof. His heartbeat sped up more as panic set in while he realized what she was doing there. She couldn’t. He sprinted up the last stairs, his lungs burning but he pushed through he had to. He needed to be there in time. He stepped out into the night air and found her standing on the edge of the roof, looking down. She hadn’t heard him coming. He ran up and wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her away from the edge. He lost his balance and fell onto his back with her on top of him.

“Riley, I’m so sorry…I wish I had seen it sooner or acted sooner.” he whispered into her hair, fighting back tears. He felt terrible. She turned in his arms and buried her face into his chest as she started to sob. After a while, they both calmed down and started crying, just laying there with her in his arms. Finally they sat up, but she stayed in his arms. Slowly she looked into his eyes and spoke softly. She told him everything that happened. She explained why she wanted to take her life. She thanked him for saving her life. She kissed him on the lips and only then did it click for both of them just how deeply they fell for each other over the past few months of the Engagement Tour especially.

“Let’s get back and pack your things.” He whispered, standing to his feet and held his hand out to her.

“What do you mean?” She asked confused, but took his hand and stood to her feet anyway.

“We’re packing you up and getting you home. I’ll even take you back myself if you’d like. I’ll get your name cleared and then we can see each other again.” He said with a determined look on his face. He had already made up his mind.

“But Maxwell and Bertrand…” She whispered and looked down. He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes.

“They can deal with it, your mental health and seeing your loved ones is what’s needed right now and all that matters. You really need to be with your family and friends right now. I’ll get your name cleared and I’ll deal with the Beaumonts. Don’t worry.” He whispered. She stared at him silently before pulling him into a kiss once more.

“Thank you, Drake. For everything. Really.” She whispered back. Together they walked all the way back to her room on the train in silence. He helped her pack her things, but only stopped when Bertrand and Maxwell came into the room.

“What are you doing?” Maxwell asked sadly.

“Keep packing. I’ll handle this.” Drake said to her. She nodded and kept packing while Drake pushed the other two men out of the room. “She’s going back home.”

“Impossible! It’s not happening! She must remain here to clear her name and marry Liam like she wants!” Bertrand said with a scowl. Drake’s hand clenched into a fist and he took a deep breath.

“That’s not what she wants anymore. She really needs to be back home right now.” Drake was trying his best not to be angry at all, but Bertrand being Bertrand meant it was hard to avoid it.

“What do you mean she doesn’t want to marry him anymore?” Bertrand asked, shock clear on his face.

“And why does she need to be home?” Maxwell asked, earning a scowl from his brother.

“You guys wouldn’t care the reason why for any of it. I know you guys, especially Bertrand. You aren’t stopping her. She’s going home. I’m taking her there then coming back to finish clearing her name myself.” Drake said sternly.

“Of course we care! Why wouldn’t we?” Maxwell asked, suddenly very upset at what Drake said.

“She’s never said anything to anyone about how she feels because she knew that nobody here would care enough. Don’t start pretending like you do.” Drake practically growled. She was not staying here. Not right now. She could always come back if she wanted.

“I was going to kill myself tonight. Would you have understood that?” Her soft voice from behind Drake. Everyone turned to look at her. “Come into my room and I’ll explain.” She whispered. The guys complied and walked into her room. All of her things were packed now.

“Why would you do that, Riley?” Maxwell asked, his voice filled with sadness. A deep rage built inside Drake and he wasn’t totally sure why.

“YOU noticed she was barely eating and you did NOTHING about it! That should’ve been your first CLEAR sign that something wasn’t okay for her! You just brought her all the way here to marry someone she just met because your house is broke! Then you think she shouldn’t go home when her mom killed herself 2 weeks ago! NOBODY thought to make sure she was fine! NOBODY cared! It’s all about her marrying an engaged man! Well, that’s over! She’s going home and I’m taking her there!” Drake yelled at the brothers, standing protectively by Riley’s side.

“Take our jet.” Maxwell said right away with no hesitation.

“Maxwell!” Bertrand glared at his younger brother and Maxwell glared back.

“That jet got her here and it can take her home.” Maxwell said defiantly. His features softened as he looked down. “Besides it’s my fault she’s here. We need to help her one last time. Bertrand, she lost her mom. We needed each other when we lost mom and dad, she needs her family too.”

“Very well, take the jet. Maxwell, go with Drake. I’ll handle things here till you get back.” Bertrand then left the room.

“I’m so sorry, Riley. I should’ve done better about checking in on you. I’ll just grab some extra clothes and I’ll meet you out to get a cab to the airport. I’ll call for the jet now.” Maxwell then walked out of the room leaving Drake and Riley alone.

“I’m sorry for my outburst. I don’t know what came over me.” He said to her softly. She turned and placed another soft kiss on his lips.

“You really care for me, that’s what came over you.” She whispered.

Things aren’t the same anymore, some nights it gets so bad that I almost pick up the phone. Trade Baby Blues for Wide-Eyed Browns, I sleep with your old shirts and walk through this house in your shoes. I know it’s strange. It’s a strange way of saying that I know I’m supposed to love you, I’m supposed to love you.

It wasn’t long before they were on the plane and headed to America, but not New York this time. This time they were going for Colorado. Riley had grown up in Colorado Springs. Drake and Maxwell had learned about that before leaving for America. She wanted Drake to stay for a couple days to meet some of her family and go on some hikes with amazing views. He agreed and told Maxwell he’d just buy a plane ticket back to wherever the Engagement Tour was when he’d be heading back.

“I just remembered something.” She said with a small smile.

“What?” Both guys asked in unison. Drake glared at Maxwell. She still had a shadow of sadness on her features, but for now she was doing better than she was hours earlier.

“Back in high school, my senior year, I took an auto shop class.” She was going to continue but already saw the shock on their faces. Neither of them had expected she would have been the type to really get dirty.

“Wait, you took an auto shop class. So like, you worked on cars?” Drake asked, making her giggle.

“Yes, I did! I didn’t actually do much in that class, I mostly just watched.” She laughed.

“But what did you remember?” Drake asked, putting her back on track with where her mind was.

“Oh, right! Well, one time that teacher told us a story on how he convinced this bank in town to give Native kids college scholarships every year!” With that she went on with this crazy story. Drake almost couldn’t believe it and Maxwell thought that was awesome. After some time they all fell asleep. Drake woke up first and couldn’t help but smile at Riley sleeping. She looked so at peace for the first time in a while. Suddenly, the peaceful look disappeared as tears started coating her cheeks. Drake quickly got up and pulled her into his lap.

“Hey, wake up, it’s just a dream.” He said softly, rubbing her arm until she fully woke up. She wrapped her arms around his neck and cried into his chest. Slowly she calmed down and just sat in his lap emotionless.

“What if I’m meant to be just like her making all the same choices.” She whispered so quietly Drake almost didn’t hear her.

“Don’t say that.” He said quickly. “We do not have to follow in our parents footsteps and be like them. You aren’t doomed to end your life like she did. Choose for yourself. Make your own decisions.”

“I almost did about a month before I met you all. I was planning on doing it when I knew no one would be able to save me.” She admitted in a whisper.

“Why?”

“I was in a really bad situation. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression for years, since Middle School at least. I struggled with a self harm addiction that I’m still struggling with. My roommate treated me like absolute shit. I was belittled every day for no reason. That made me feel worthless, you know.”

“Yeah…I do know.”

“Well it started to become an everyday thing. I was used to suicidal thoughts and shit, but the thought of actually putting action to it scared me. I thought about going ‘down the road’ while my roommate was at work so no one would be around to save me for hours and I would be able to just slip away into that darkness.”

“What changed? You’re still here so something changed.”

“I moved to New York. I got myself out of the situation when I realized it wasn’t gonna change.”

We sat and talked aimlessly until the jet landed in Colorado Springs. They said goodbye to Maxwell and got in a car for the short drive to her dad’s house. He stayed with her for 3 days. They grew closer. She took him on many hikes showing him scenic sites around. She admitted she loved him and wanted him. He didn’t want to leave her, but he had promised her as soon as her name was cleared he would be back.

The minute he was gone, she missed him. Days passed. Weeks. Even a few months before she got the official call. Her name was finally cleared. Drake was coming back to see her and spend more time in her hometown before returning to Cordonia as Liam had a surprise for her. She was so happy. She couldn’t wait to see him again. Their relationship had grown while they could only text, call, and video chat. They did more things than she had ever or thought to do with anyone else. He made her feel comfortable.

Some days she was super lovey dovey with him. Other days she was emotionless. She always felt bad during the lows. She’d get jealous over little things. Little things would set her off. However, they both knew she would always apologize because she never meant it. He had assured her many times that he knew she was still getting through losing her mom. Slowly but surely, she was becoming happy again. She drove to the airport to pick him up. Her excitement had her over anticipating how much time she needed. She waited anxiously for him to come find her. When he did, she ran and jumped into his arms. She didn’t waste any time before kissing him.

“I missed you too.” He said through a laugh. She giggled and stepped away from him.

“Sorry, I’m just excited to see you.”

Familiar Taste of Poison

The Royal Romance One-Shot

Familiar Taste of Poison

Story based off of The Royal Romance Book 1. DrakeXMC. To the lyrics of Familiar Taste of Poison by Halestorm. I wrote this before the first book ended and just havent had the time to type it up until now.

Word Count: 2330

MC/LN=My Characters Last Name

PN=Prince’s Name

*Drake’s POV*

Drink the wine, my darling, you said, take your time, consume all of it, but the roses were only to drain my inspiration. The promises were spoiled before they left your lips and….

He loved MC, but his best friend loves her too. She was here for his best friend. All the suitors were. Why did he have to fall for her of all people? The answer was simple. They were both commoners, not royalty. She had a beautiful personality and was all around beautiful in general. He couldn’t see why she would compete for royalty. He would never do that, but he also grew up around it and knew exactly how it was.

The taste of whiskey was constantly on his tongue. He called his little moments with MC roses. That was only because he always thought roses were one of the most beautiful flowers he’s seen. So his beautiful little moments he loved with MC were called roses.

With her he had so much more inspiration to somewhat try and be happy. He felt like he should actually go out and do things. Of course now he had to try and brush it off that he was just bored and there was nothing better to do. He really just wanted to be around MC. Part of him wished he could tell her just how he felt, but that wasn’t fair to PN. She was here for him and he was likely going to choose her. There was no use in telling her he had feelings for her.

She always promised to keep him involved in things because he and the Prince were best friends and she considered him a good friend. He knew that could never be true. It was hard enough to find time to hangout with the Prince himself while he was a prince. Drake knew it would eventually be almost impossible when the Prince and MC were King and Queen.

I tell myself that you’re no good for me. I wish you well, but desire never leaves. I could fight this till the end, but maybe I don’t want to win.

He downed his glass of whiskey as he watched MC and the Prince dancing the night away at some formal party or whatever was going on right now. He didn’t care. All he cared about was seeing MC and his best friend happy. Also that he had whiskey to drink. “She’s not good for me. What am I thinking? Actually, I’m not good for her.” He said to himself. It was a daily fight with himself. He wanted her, but he couldn’t have her; so he had to convince himself that they weren’t good for each other. It never worked. Not even reminding himself that his best friend could give her anything she wanted, but he himself couldn’t do that as a commoner and that’s all he’d ever be.

He would always desire being with her. He would always desire holding her in his arms. He would always desire every little thing he could about her. He could fight against the feelings he had for her. He knew he could. However, there was something about her that made him not want to fight it.

I don’t want to be saved. I don’t want to be sober. I want you in my mind, in my dreams behind these eyes, and I won’t wake up, no not this time.

He knew he was in too deep now. He was too far gone in love with her to turn around and leave it. Nothing could save him from the crippling pain of loving someone he couldn’t have; of loving the same girl as his best friend; of loving the girl who loved his best friend.

Part of him never wanted to be sober again. He hardly ever was before, but now he wanted to just permanently be drunk until he died or recovered from this all. Only then could he be carefree and feel comfortably numb. He couldn’t keep her off his mind at any point in time. He never wanted to wake up when all his dreams featured her beautiful face.

He snapped himself out of those thoughts. He couldn’t be thinking about this. He needed to get away. He couldn’t stay here with how he felt for MC. He had to go. Whether it would be the hardest thing he does or not, he needed to leave. Stay away for a bit at the very least.

“Hey, Drake.” A familiar voice said, pulling him from his thoughts completely. Only this voice sounded sad or drained now. He turned and saw her in all her beauty.

“MC/LN.” He said simply. Then he could see how not okay she was. She literally looked emotionally and possibly mentally drained. “Are you okay?” he asked softly. With a sigh, she sat down next to him.

“Do you ever dream of just running away without telling anyone?” She asked softly. He could barely hear her over the music playing in the room.

“Honestly? Yeah.” He admitted kind of quietly. He wouldn’t say he was dreaming of that just now. Nobody could know. If he were to tell anyone it would be PN.

“Would you ever run away with me?” She asked, looking right into his eyes. His heartbeat sped up. Was she really asking this?

“Are you serious?” He asked cautiously.

“Yes.” She nodded.

“What about PN?”

“Even though he wants to choose me, I doubt I’ll end up with him. Madeline and Olivia have a better chance as the court’s choice.”

“Why do you think that?”

“They’re royals and actually know what they’re doing. I’m just some waitress from New York.”

“You’re not just some waitress.”

“What are you saying, Drake.”

“PN is head over heels in love with you.”

“Which is why I need to leave, Drake. He needs to choose someone who knows what to do. He can’t choose me and make them accept me. He needs to choose Olivia or Madeline. Olivia is probably the better choice of those two. She loves him even if he has no feelings for her.”

“So you just want to leave? The choice is being revealed tomorrow then the wedding will follow soon after. Are you sure you want to leave?”

“Yes…I want to leave tomorrow morning.”

“Tomorrow morning?” Drake asked, shocked. He had to make sure this was real and not just another dream.

“Yes. Will you please come with me?” She asked softly. She was practically begging him. He knew he should say no, but he couldn’t help himself.

“If you wish.” He said nonchalantly.

I breathe you in again just to feel you, underneath my skin, holding on to the sweet escape is always laced with a familiar taste of poison.

She pulled him close into a hug. He breathed in her sweet scent and smiled a barely visible smile. With that they separated once more. “We should pack tonight.” She said, life coming back into her voice.

“Okay.” He said. He couldn’t express the happiness and relief that he felt knowing she wanted to leave. Not only did she want to leave, but she wanted to leave with him. He left the party and began to pack what he really needed. When he was done, he went to sleep. They will be leaving tomorrow morning.

The next morning he woke up and went to find MC. Before he could leave his room, she came hopping in. She hugged him excitedly. “I have the best news!”

“What is it?” He asked, fearing their little trip was no longer happening.

“”PN told me that he is going to choose me! I guess everyone likes me and wants me to be queen! I’m getting married soon!” She exclaimed. With those words he felt all of his hope crash down. Why would he have even thought this would actually happen?

“That’s nice.” He said. “I guess we did all that packing for nothing. You should probably get out of here before people start talking.” Drake said, practically pushing the girl out of his room. He waited a few moments before walking out of his room and going straight to the stables.

He checked and made sure no one was around before letting out his anger and frustration. He punched the barn doors various times until blood dripped from his knuckles. Only then did he stop and sit against a wall. He didn’t know how long he was sitting there. He also hadn’t noticed when PN came up to him.

“Drake, what happened?” The Prince asked, concerned.

“I can’t stay here anymore, PN. I need to get out.” The commoner said.

“Are you okay?” The Prince asked, showing concern once more.

“Does it look like I’m fucking okay?!” Drake asked, raising his voice. It only took a second for him to realize what he had said and the way he had said it. “I’m sorry…I just can’t do this anymore. I can’t be here anymore. I need to get out. My mom and Savannah were right to get out.”

“Let me help you.” PN suggested softly.

“Why?”

“Because you’re my friend and you’ve always been there for me. What can I do?”

“You can get me a plane ticket. Anywhere but here. I need to get out and not come back. I don’t want anyone knowing where I’m going.”

The Prince looked at his friend astonished. Drake was serious this time. With the dried blood on his hands and a determined look on his face, the Prince knew he was serious.

Of course. I’ll get you anywhere you want to go.” The Prince said. “Get your hands looked at. I’ll get you the money soon. Then you can go. I would appreciate it if you could just wait until after my wedding. I want you to be my best man.”

“I don’t know if I should stay.” Drake admitted softly.

“I’ll get you the money by tonight to go anywhere and start a life, but please try and stay until my wedding.” Drake nodded before PN kept going. “Go get your hands cleaned and looked at.” The Prince said, a worried look on his face.

“Don’t worry about me. You have enough to deal with.” Drake said gruffly. With that he watched his friend walk away before walking back to his room and washed his hands free of blood. Only then did he walk to the live-in doctor’s room.

That night he heard a knock on his door. Not only a knock, but his and the Prince’s secret one. They had made it when they were younger so they would know who was knocking. He got up and carefully opened the door with his wrapped up hands.

“How bad is it?” The Prince asked, looking at Drake’s hands.

“Broke all my knuckles.” Drake said with a shrug as if it wasn’t a big thing.

“What the hell, man?”

“I was mad and frustrated.”

“I guess so, but that much damage?”

“Heh. It could have been much worse.”

“You really aren’t okay right now, are you?”

“Like I said, I need to get out.”

“I’m sorry I haven’t been able to be much of an actual friend to you lately.”

“You’re busy.”

“That doesn’t mean anything. How am I supposed to be here in a country where I can’t even be there for my best friend?”

“The country needs you more.”

The Prince stared at his friend in shock.

“Are you saying you don’t need me?”

“I’m saying I don’t need you to baby me. I’m fine.”

“Yeah, clearly.”

“If you’re gonna be a dick about it, don’t help me. I’ll find a way to get out on my own.” Drake said, crossing his arms over his chest.

“You know that’s not how I’m meaning to be.” PN said with a sigh. “Look, here’s the money I promised. I’m not babying you, I just want to make sure you’re okay.” He handed Drake the money and walked out.

3 months had passed. MC and PN were now the King and Queen of Cordonia, but now was the time for the wedding. Drake had stayed for it even though he didn’t want to. He stayed to give PN his one wish of having Drake as his best man. That didn’t stop the commoner from staying hidden most of that 3 months. He didn’t want to be around MC unless he had to.

The only time he spent with her was at the wedding where everyone was. Even then he kept the conversation short. After the wedding, PN walked up to drake.

“I just wanted to say thanks for waiting until my wedding. Are you still planning on leaving?” He asked. He had hoped Drake changed his mind. Drake hadn’t.

“Yeah, I’m leaving now. Thanks for the help you and your family gave, but it’s time I be my own person for once.” Drake said.

“Is this because of MC?” His friend asked. His hands balled into fists as best they could.

“Why would it be because of MC/LN?” He practically growled.

“I know you liked her, Drake.” PN whispered with a sigh. Drake let out a breath.

“That’s putting it lightly.” Drake mumbled, looking down. “It’s more than just because of her, but it’s mostly that. It’s why I don’t want anyone knowing where I’m going. And I really need to go now. I have a plane to catch.” Drake said, slinging a bag over his shoulder.

“Okay…I hope to see you again in the future. You’re a good friend, Drake.” PN said, pulling the commoner into a hug.

“Take care.” Drake said with a nod before walking off. He could hear MC calling for him to stop, but he forced himself to walk faster. By the time he was far from his friend’s home, tears filled his eyes. “I hope they’ll be okay.”

*Drake’s POV*

I couldn’t help but smile when looking at her. She was so beautiful. I noticed it the night we met, but I knew as soon as she saw (P/N) that she would favor him over me. That’s how it always goes. Always.

She tried explaining to me that things would have been different if we had met in a different way. I still couldn’t believe that. How could anyone want me more than him?

“What are you thinking about?” She asked softly, walking up to him. I was outside at the stables and it was the middle of the night. Why is she out here?

“What are you doing here, (MC/LN)?” I asked with more force than I meant to.

“Why am I here in this spot with you right now? Or why am I here in general?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Don’t do that, (MC/LN). We both know why you’re here in general.” I said. I wanted to know why she was out of bed at this time of night.

“Follow me.” She said with a smile then turned around. Curious, I followed her as she climbed up the barn and on top of the roof. I don’t actually know how we got there, but it was a perfect spot to watch the stars, like that one night before the storm. “Why do you think I’m here? Tell me why I’m here.” She whispered, looking up at the stars.

“You’re here to clear your name and marry King (P/N). That’s why you’re here.” I said. There was no thought about it. She continued staring at the stars for a moment before looking back at me.

“You’re wrong, ya know.” She whispered, staring into my eyes. “It’s you.”

“What?” I asked. She couldn’t be here telling me that she came all this way just for me..

“It’s you. I came here for you. Not for (P/N). You. It’s always been you.” With that she turned and looked at the stars once more. “I know you’ll probably dismiss it and say it’s not true, but I swear to you that I came for you.”

“How has it always been me?” I asked. I needed to know what was going on in her mind.

“When I saw you that night in New York, before I saw (P/N), I knew I wanted to get to know you. Sure I hung out with him that night, but you had Maxwell and Tariq. So I showed him the statue of liberty like he had wanted. But when Maxwell asked me to come here to be in the competition to marry (P/N), I really said yes hoping to get closer to you.”

“No, there’s no way.”

“Drake, listen to me. I’m not lying when I say that I came here for you. Notice how I’ve failed miserably at impressing the nobles. I don’t care about that or royalty or any of this. I want to clear my name and be with you. And if we can’t clear my name, so be it. Either way, I want to be with you.”

“You’re serious, aren’t you?”

She turned to me once more, a very serious expression on her face.

“Why would I lie? What reason is there?”

“How could you choose me over him?”

“Oh, Drake…”

Slowly, she brought her hand up and caressed my cheek. I couldn’t help it when I leaned into it. She leaned in and softly pressed her lips to mine.

“Drake, you need to stop lying to yourself. I know that’s hard to do after believing the lies for so long and being insecure, but I’m telling the truth. Drake Walker, I am in love with you and I want to be with you.”

“MC, why would you come all this way for me? Why would you put up with all this bullshit?”

“Listen, Drake, when I clear my name, I am going to tell (P/N) that I don’t want to marry him. If you don’t want me, I’ll understand and I’ll just go back to New York or something. Either way, I’ll be leaving. That’s only if you don’t want me, though.”

She looked away once more and I could see her eyes starting to gloss as if she was holding back tears. When she spoke again, her voice shook.

“But if you don’t want me, you should probably tell me soon, so I don’t get my hopes up even more to watch them get torn down. It would just be easier for the both of us if you let me know now.”

“Why wouldn’t I want to be with you?”

“Because I’m never good enough.”

I looked at her shocked. Did she really feel that way about herself? I hadn’t noticed her looking at me or the tear that slid down her cheek until she chuckled darkly.

“You thought you were the only one who had self esteem issues?”

There was a dark look in her eyes. The worst part was that I knew that look. I’ve had that look many times myself.

“At least hide that you’re pitying me.” She got upset and started to move to leave me. I quickly grabbed her hand.

“I’m not pitying you.” I said sincerely. “I just didn’t expect someone as perfect as you to think so lowly of yourself.”

“Even the most confident people have self esteem issues.” She whispered, pulling her hand from my grasp and finding the quickest way down off the roof. I got up as quickly as I could and followed her.

“MC, wait!” I called after her. She stopped abruptly and looked at me. I could see a flash of anger in her eyes. Without really thinking, I pulled her close and wrapped my arms around her waist. “You’re the most beautiful girl I have ever met. I just didn’t think my feelings would ever be reciprocated. Especially with (P/N) around.” With that, I kissed her passionately, trying to fill her with love to fight back against the self-hate.

I didn’t want her feeling how I always felt. Maybe she didn’t want me to feel that either. It felt like forever before we pulled away.

“MC, I want to be with you.” I admitted. “I want to get to know you better and have you get to know me better, but this is all so different in my life. I’ve never been so close with anyone but (P/N) and Savannah. And I don’t want this to ruin my friendship with (P/N).”

“Then let me talk to him.” She said softly. “I’ll let him down softly. I just want to be with you…Plus, me even attempting to be with him now is such bullshit. He’s engaged to Madeleine. Am I supposed to just ignore that? Me and you both are single. It’s not a new scandal, but what Madeleine and (P/N) want would be one waiting to happen. She made a deal with him that I could be his mistress as long as she gets to be queen. That’s a scandal waiting to be exposed…but you and me? That’s not a scandal.”

“Maybe not, but the press can just as easily say I’m a bad friend for ending up with one of the popular suitors. Do you really want that?” I asked. If she was okay with it, I would do it.

“Why don’t we just talk to (P/N) about it and take it from there. He could help us in the event of that happening. Even if he doesn’t, if he knows about us before the press can say anything, maybe dealing with the press won’t be so bad. I don’t care what it takes to be with you, I will do whatever I have to.” She said, determination in her eyes. Then a thought occurred to me.

“What kind of friend does this actually make me? He’s done so much for me and how do I repay him? Be stealing the woman he’s in love with. By hating everything his life has consisted of because I don’t belong as a commoner. I can handle the second one because he understands it and knows I’m not hating on him, just the other nobles and their lives. But stealing the woman he loves? That could ruin him.” I whispered softly, starting to rethink things.

“Drake, look at me.” She demanded and waited until I was looking right in her eyes. “That doesn’t make you a bad friend. If you’re so worried then just let me talk to him and let him down as easily as possible. Would you rather me talk to him and tell him asap, or wait until my name is cleared and I choose you anyway for him to find out I don’t want to be with him?” She asked. She had a good point.

“Why not just warn him? What if you really don’t want me? What if you decide you want to be with him instead. He can give you every single thing you want no matter what it is.” I said. IT could be possible she could change her mind.

“Drake, if you’re worried about being a bad friend because of this, you’re not. This doesn’t make you a bad friend.” She said sincerely.

“Then what the hell does it make me, (MC/LN)?!” I asked with more force than I meant to. She didn’t even flinch. She just looked at me with a stoic look and a glint of something I couldn’t name in her eyes. When she spoke it was in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.

“Human. It makes you a human who will finally get what he deserves and wants for once in his goddamn life. Don’t think otherwise. You need to do things for you. You don’t always have to walk on eggshells. And I don’t give a fuck if he is the one who helped your family stay sheltered and fed while growing up. I don’t fucking care what he’s done for you or what he could give me! It’s time for you to step up and do shit for you and stop walking on eggshells! If you really want me, you can have me! Nothing will change how I feel about you!”

Her forcefulness awoke something inside me. Without thinking, I grabbed her and pinned her forcefully against the barn. A splash of fear found its way into her eyes, but it quickly dissipated as she looked into my eyes once more.

“Take what I want, huh?” I asked with a raised eyebrow, surprised by my own actions but trying not to show it. She stared at my lips and licked her own before looking into my eyes again.

“That’s exactly what I’m telling you.” She whispered. “Take what you want.” Slowly, her hands trailed down and found the button of my jeans. Almost instantly, I grabbed her wrists and held them above her head. It was definitely time for me to do something for myself, so that’s exactly what I did. I wasn’t holding back at all and she seemed to enjoy it.

After a little while we both dressed once more and started our walk back to the palace. She smiled over at me as we walked hand-in-hand. “I’m lucky Maxwell had me be his workout partner today so I have a good reason to be sore tomorrow.” She joked.

“You’re the one who told me to take what I want. I just so happened to want you.” I said and could feel my cheeks warm up. Even after having sex with her, I still had trouble easily admitting feelings without my body heating up in embarrassment.

“But did you have to be so rough?” She asked softly, I stopped walking and looked at her.

“You could have stopped me.” I said, quickly feeling guilty. She turned and softly kissed my lips. It was a very soft yet passionate kiss.

“Drake, that was the best moment of my life thus far. Not to mention that it was the best sex I’ve had thus far. Please, don’t overthink it. Please.” She spoke with a big smile that made me start to feel better about what we just did.

“The suns coming up. What are you going to tell Maxwell?” I asked curiously. Maxwell was always there to wake her up bright and early in the morning.

“I’ll tell him I couldn’t sleep last night and went for a walk. It’s not that much of a lie. I really couldn’t sleep and I first checked your room, but you weren’t there so I went on a search for you of course. I’ll also tell him that if he can do it, I need some time alone with (P/N).” She explained. I nodded my head in understanding.

“So you’re really going to do it? This really wasn’t a dream or a one time thing?” I asked as a mischievous smile crept onto his lips.

“So you’re now admitting you’ve had dirty dreams about me.” She smirked with a raised eyebrow and my cheeks heated up once more. “Drake, that was definitely NOT a one time thing. At least I really hope you won’t make it a one time thing. Again, that’s the best sex I’ve EVER had! It’d be a shame if we didn’t repeat it.” She winked after speaking. “I meant what I said about wanting to be with you.”

“Does this mean I could maybe call you my girlfriend now?” I asked softly. She stopped walking and wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug while she laughed.

“And here I thought you’d be the one to want to wait! I would really like that, but maybe hold off on saying it around anyone until I talk to (P/N).” She said and I nodded. She was right, I have been the one especially taking (P/N)’s emotions into account. I of course would wait until things were okay to say it out loud. It even sounded odd in my mind. (MC) (MC/LN) is my girlfriend and I really couldn’t be happier.

Did They Know?

Part of “Taz’s Crack Fic Challenge” by @ilikepipecleanerswitheyes. I got the prompt ‘Smoking a joint with Will’. I chose it mainly because I have smoked weed (never a joint though, not yet at least haha) and I also have ADD. To write this, I personally looked up what you could treat with medicinal marijuana and saw ADD was one of the things on that list. Then, because I wanted the main character to be in the BAU and on the team, so I looked up if someone could work for the FBI and use medical marijuana. Research worked out. Hope you enjoy J

Prompt: Smoking a joint with Will

Word Count: 803 Words

Not many people could say that they work for the FBI while using Medical Marijuana. She had been smoking it for years illegally, but when she found out she could get a medical card for her ADD, she did it right away. She had fought with the Bureau for months before she finally convinced them to let her join the BAU.

She was the top of her class. She had the highest scores. There was no reason besides her medical card that would make them not allow her in the BAU. After seeing her work case after case after case flawlessly, they saw how much someone with a medical card could do for them. It was because of her and realizing that a lot of skilled hackers are “stoners”, they decided to allow people to apply and consider them even though they smoked marijuana.

The only people on her team who knew that she smoked for medicinal purposes were Rossi, Hotch, Garcia, and Reid. Reid only knew because he caught her one time on a case in Colorado walking into a medicinal dispensary, so she had to explain herself. Garcia knew because she had worriedly looked into the new young girl joining the team. Of course the first thing she had to do was explain it was for medicinal purposes so she could slow down and really focus on things. She also reassured Garcia that she wouldn’t use it if she didn’t need to. Hotch knew because he was the team leader. Rossi just somehow knew and asked her about it, she had known better than to lie.

Tonight they were celebrating at Rossi’s for Reid’s birthday. It was coming up around the time that she would usually smoke to be able to focus again. She snuck off and went to one of Rossi’s back balcony’s where no one would see her. She didn’t want any of her colleagues thinking different of her because one little thing that helps her slow down and concentrate.

She pulled out her little bottle with the weed in it and pulled out her pipe. She packed a bowl and took two hits from it. After that, the door to the balcony opened. She turned to fin Will.

“I thought I smelled that.” He said slowly with a light chuckle. “Mind if I join you?” He asked, pulling out rolling papers.

“Sure, I can always get more anyway.” She said chuckling. “But please don’t tell anyone else that I do this. It’s medicinally, but it might still make the others think differently of me. I don’t want that.” As the last word left her mouth she began to slow down once more. This was the feeling she loved. Things felt more normal when they were slower and not going so fast due to her ADD.

She handed Will the little bottle with what was left of weed. He took some out and rolled it into a perfect joint. “Thanks for this.” He said lighting it up and inhaling deeply. “You didn’t want to just roll a joint so you didn’t have to bring a pipe?” He asked curiously.

“I’ve never really liked joints. I’ve always really just enjoyed small pipes like this one. I don’t really like using anything else.” She explained before taking another hit. With that her bowl was all smoked. As she was putting it away, Will looked at her quizzically.

“How long have you been smoking?”

“Let’s see, I’m 30 this year, so about 15 years.” She explained easily.

“Damn, you started young.” He said with a chuckle. “Did the FBI know when you started working for them?”

“Yes. They didn’t really want to hire me, but I proved to them not all people who smoke are lazy and don’t do anything like the stereotype says. I’m part of the reason they’re allowing people who do smoke to apply and really be considered.” She explained.

“Oh, damn. Do you mind if I ask why you smoke?” Will asked, his curiosity getting the best of him.

“Well, I have ADD and it helps me slow down and focus. I found out that I could get a medical card, so I did for my ADD.”

“Gotcha.”

“I think I’m gonna head back to the party before someone questions why I’ve been gone so long. At least the people who don’t know.” She said with a light laugh and stood up.

“If JJ doesn’t know already, just know that she’ll know by morning. She’s gonna wanna know where I got the weed from.” Will explained.

“No worries, you’re married. I get it.” She laughed. “Please ask her to keep it between us though…I really don’t want anyone else knowing unless they have to know.”

“No problem.” He said. She walked inside and back out to the party.

Does anyone understand why I'm being pressured to throw money out on a beater car that I wont want or feel comfortable driving, but its unacceptable to vent about people pressuring me to get a car asap when I'm trying to save for a good and reliable one? Like, fuck, I'm just trying to be comfortable and not have to spend more money than I did buying the car before I can get a new one. Why do I have to be rushed when only one person (who also doesnt have a working vehicle) is upset about giving me rides when I offer gas money to everyone and offer to find other rides or use Lyft and Uber if they cant get me ride? And also why would someone sell a car that's about to blow? Cause the person pressuring me really asked me if I was gonna have my old car sold when I was told by multiple mechanics that theres a bad rod and the engines gonna blow so we're trashing it. Why sell a car that's gonna blow?

Freshman year of college I was in a philosophy class and I was giving some sort of group presentation. The prof asked my group “what do you think is your purpose in life?” And none of them really had an answer while I just said “to make the world a better place for those who come after us” because in my mind that’s just the obvious answer. The prof looked kind of taken aback that I just had an answer on the ready and was like “Why? What’s your motivation?”

In that moment I realized I was in front of a lecture hall of privileged students. I was surrounded by people who didn’t know poverty or desperation like I had. I clawed my way here on scholarships while they were legacy kids or trust fund babies. In that moment it clicked in my head that there’s this level of empathy that you can only gain when you have absolutely nothing to lose. A level of empathy that only the impoverished have. A level of empathy that screams out that you have to fight to make things better even if it doesn’t benefit you. It’s a concept that you can only really grasp when you have nothing to lose and the kids before me hadn’t known that pain. They hadn’t developed that kind of empathy.

My only answer that I could give the prof was “Why wouldn’t I?”

A level of empathy that screams out that you have to fight to make things better even if it doesn’t benefit you.

all the angry rich people in the notes:

also to all the people who are arguing that class privilege has nothing to do with empathy, studies show that richer people have less empathy

i know u dont like to listen to us commoners but… lmao

oh this one of them good posts where the basic message is “treat people better” and this causes the most controversy
