So this post I did a while back really took off. It (and the other comments)  basically said, “hey, it’s not stupid to try things!” And oh my god there are SO many people trying their hardest to convince everyone that no, in fact, it is stupid to try things. And that is seriously bumming me out.

-Please don’t waste so much energy trying to convince the world you suck. Stop insisting that you shouldn’t try to do something you want to do. Stop angrily arguing that trying is pointless. Not only are you reinforcing unfounded negativity in yourself, but you could be convincing someone else out there that it’s pointless to try.

-Yes, you can do the thing if it’s something you want to do. No, it’s not stupid to try. Yes, it’s still okay even if the result isn’t perfect or if it seems like no one else is interested in it right now.  Nothing is ever perfect, so cut yourself some slack.

-It’s still okay to try something even you don’t do a perfect job or if you don’t get a lot of notes on tumblr. (also, re: low tumblr notes, there are award-winning pros with hardly any notes on tumblr because they just don’t have the following yet on that platform. The amount of notes you get or don’t get has nothing to do with the quality of your work.)

-If you feel like you suck at something, it might mean you are still learning. Allow yourself to exist as a work in progress. No one reaches peak talent right off the bat. Some would argue that you never reach it – you just keep learning and learning your whole life. Skill takes practice and hard work. You may feel like you should be at a certain point, but just because you aren’t doesn’t mean you can’t improve if you are just patient and kind with yourself.

-Give yourself a chance instead of giving up before you begin. If you want to do something, just try it. Give yourself permission to try, to learn, to fail, and try again.

-Don’t use your perceived current imperfections keep you from trying something that you really want to do.

-Yeah, you might make a hash of this current project/idea, but you will learn SO much by having at least tried, and you will be that much more prepared for the next project.

-It is okay to have self doubt, it’s okay to be scared and feel like you can’t do it, but please, please stop spending so much time and energy trying to convince the world you suck.
