College student and huge loser. I find myself wasting incredible amounts of time enjoying video games of all sorts and way too much anime and manga. I enjoy cosplaying casually with my boyfriend once or twice a year.

I think this year has mostly been a cycle of being discouraged job hunting, upset at myself for my shortcomings in finding a career, and then clinging desperately to the hope that I have found an opportunity only to lose again. And it's gonna continue being like that, and I'll continue to vent about it on tumblr because it's now my weird sporadic job hunt diary.

I'm living life on easy mode. I'm white, I'm not homeless, I have no disabilities, illnesses, or anything that may otherwise impact my quest for the next step in the working world and I am still fucking it up so bad and have the audacity to whine about it like a little bitch.

I don't know where to go or what to do. What will lead to the future that I seek?

Feeling down again about job hunting. It seemed like I was a shoe in for this last position, but insider source told management went another direction. Apparently some folks I interviewed with were really upset and were rooting for me. Can't win even when they DO like me.

At least I was able to get an interview this time, it doesn’t seem to happen often. Maybe one for every 50-75 applications I send out?

DID HE MAKE IT??

he makes it

THANK FUCKING GOD

Ok I saw a rb of this with some context and I only remember like half of it so I’m also using Google I may get some of this wrong

But apparently the “first errand” thing isn’t just a cute little fact about the little kid, it’s a totally real thing done in Japan to teach kids that they can like rely on the community to offer assistance if they need it. They send their kids (like 2-3 years old) out alone to perform a relatively simple errand like going to a convenience store and buying a carton of milk. (There’s even a tv show where a camera crew follows children as they accomplish this first errand.) It’s not uncommon to see kids as young as 6-7 riding the subway alone because they’ve gained this sense of independence that comes from knowing that there will be people to help out if they need it.

Oh my god that’s even better

As someone who grew up with a paranoid and over-protective mother, this both warms my heart and terrifies me.

Here’s the tv show about First Errands!

It’s really hard imagining this being possible in the US, both for the reason that there are infrequently convenience stores and such within walking distance, but also because I have not often lived in very pedestrian-friendly areas.

Tumblr yikes what happened. I reblogged a thing and now I am getting notes EVERY TIME someone makes a comment on it - they’re not reblogging it from ME or anything, but I am getting every single notification. This never used to happen?
