The Times, Shreveport, Louisiana, November 30, 1913

How did I only just see this now? It’s been 6 months. :( Thanks for forwarding @annerocious! This reminds me. Do you want to see the next cut of Limerence! We’re a bit deep into the editing phase and just cleaning stuff up, but I would love to get your thoughts on the film so far! Email me if you’re interested.

20 Basic Plots

1. QUEST - the plot involves the Protagonist’s search for a person, place or thing, tangible or intangible (but must be quantifiable, so think of this as a noun; i.e., immortality).

2. ADVENTURE - this plot involves the Protagonist going in search of their fortune, and since fortune is never found at home, the Protagonist goes to search for it somewhere over the rainbow.

3. PURSUIT - this plot literally involves hide-and-seek, one person chasing another.

4. RESCUE - this plot involves the Protagonist searching for someone or something, usually consisting of three main characters - the Protagonist, the Victim & the Antagonist.

5. ESCAPE - plot involves a Protagonist confined against their will who wants to escape (does not include some one trying to escape their personal demons).

6. REVENGE - retaliation by Protagonist or Antagonist against the other for real or imagined injury.

7. THE RIDDLE - plot involves the Protagonist’s search for clues to find the hidden meaning of something in question that is deliberately enigmatic or ambiguous.

8. RIVALRY - plot involves Protagonist competing for same object or goal as another person (their rival).

9. UNDERDOG - plot involves a Protagonist competing for an object or goal that is at a great disadvantage and is faced with overwhelming odds.

10. TEMPTATION - plot involves a Protagonist that for one reason or another is induced or persuaded to do something that is unwise, wrong or immoral.

11. METAMORPHOSIS - this plot involves the physical characteristics of the Protagonist actually changing from one form to another (reflecting their inner psychological identity).

12. TRANSFORMATION - plot involves the process of change in the Protagonist as they journey through a stage of life that moves them from one significant character state to another.

13. MATURATION - plot involves the Protagonist facing a problem that is part of growing up, and from dealing with it, emerging into a state of adulthood (going from innocence to experience).

14. LOVE - plot involves the Protagonist overcoming the obstacles to love that keeps them from consummating (engaging in) true love.

15. FORBIDDEN LOVE - plot involves Protagonist(s) overcoming obstacles created by social mores and taboos to consummate their relationship (and sometimes finding it at too high a price to live with).

16. SACRIFICE - plot involves the Protagonist taking action(s) that is motivated by a higher purpose (concept) such as love, honor, charity or for the sake of humanity.

17. DISCOVERY - plot that is the most character-centered of all, involves the Protagonist having to overcome an upheavel(s) in their life, and thereby discovering something important (and buried) within them a better understanding of life (i.e., better appreciation of their life, a clearer purpose in their life, etc.)

18. WRETCHED EXCESS - plot involves a Protagonist who, either by choice or by accident, pushes the limits of acceptable behavior to the extreme and is forced to deal with the consequences (generally deals with the psychological decline of the character).

19. ASCENSION - rags-to-riches plot deals with the rise (success) of Protagonist due to a dominating character trait that helps them to succeed.

20. DECISION - riches-to-rags plot deals with the fall (destruction) of Protagonist due to dominating character trait that eventually destroys their success.

Observation: I have never broken a bone Hypothesis: I am boneless Data: I appear to have broken at least two bones in my foot slipping on the ice Conclusion: I have at least two bones. Strong evidence suggests the possibility of a third one.

I’m an astrophysicist.

State of the whole internet right now, summed up in one exchange.

MBTI & Ideas: introverted perception (-J types) in Thomas Hobbes’ Leviathan:

“Sometimes a man wants to know the outcome of an action; and then he thinks back to some earlier action of the same kind, and the sequence of its outcomes, supposing similar outcomes will follow similar actions. For example, someone may foresee what will become of a criminal by running over what he has seen follow from similar crime before, having these thoughts in this order: the crime, the arresting officer, the prison, the judge, and the gallows.
Thoughts of this kind are called foresight and prudence or providence, and sometimes wisdom; though this kind of guesswork is very fallacious, because of the difficulty of taking into account all the relevant circumstances. Still, this much is certain: if one man has more experience of things past than another does, the former will be correspondingly more prudent than the latter, and less often wrong in his expectations.
Only the present has an existence in nature; things past exist in the memory only; and future things don’t exist at all, because the future is just a fiction [= ‘creation’] of the mind, arrived at by noting the consequences that have ensued from past actions and assuming that similar present actions will have similar consequences (an assumption that pushes us forward into the supposed future).
This kind of extrapolation is done the most securely by the person who has the most experience, but even then not with complete security. And though it is called ‘prudence’ when the outcome is as we expected, it is in its own nature a mere presumption. For the ability to see in advance things that are to come, which is providence [from Latin providentia the power to see into the future], belongs only to God, whose will will make them come. He alone can prophesy, and he does it supernaturally.
The person who does the best job of prophesying naturally is the best guesser; and the best guesser is the one who knows most about the matters he guesses at and has studied them most thoroughly, for he has most signs to guess by. A sign is the evident antecedent of the consequent, and in the other direction the consequent of the antecedent.
For example, dark clouds may be a sign that rain is to come; a burning tree may be a sign that lightning has struck. This requires that similar consequences have been observed before; and the oftener they have been observed, the less uncertain is the sign.
And therefore he who has most experience in any kind of business has most signs by which to guess what the future holds, and consequently is the most prudent: and his advantage in prudence over someone to whom that kind of business is new is not counterbalanced by any advantage that the latter may have in natural cleverness and quick-wittedness—though perhaps many young men would disagree with this!”

Hey so the trailer for the new Ghostbusters movie was released today and the response has been absolutely appalling.

The trailer is currently outweighed by dislikes in proportion to likes, at first I thought perhaps it was just genuinely a bad trailer but after watching it realised that definitely wasn’t the case because the trailer is hilarious and definitely captures the lighthearted goofiness of the original, plus the special effects we saw look good. After reading the comments I realised why it had to many dislikes, because asshole sexist man-babies have been disliking the video simply because it’s an all female cast and probably didn’t even bother to watch the trailer.

Please go watch the trailer and boost the likes to show support to the film, if you watch the trailer and genuinely don’t like it then fair enough but please don’t just dislike it on principle.

I went and put in my like and felt like I struck a small blow for reality. The WHINGING in the comments is not even real. Go click like, in the name of bunnies, justice and Melissa McCarthy.

Confession: I thought the trailer was selling me an Adam Sandler movie, or “Michael Bay 80s Franchise Reboot #48.” Dumb and action-y and tonally schizophrenic. The trailer itself even feels derivative of other trailers.

I guess I expected a lot more intelligence from this project, especially after seeing that comedy-all-star-line-up cast.

For example, I don’t think its a good sign that it features both a “dramatic piano remix” and a “dubstep remix” of Ray Parker Jr’s theme song. It makes me think this whole film will be one big brutally-obvious cash-grabbing wink at the audience. Save the references up and make them count. Don’t spread ‘em out like peanut butter across the whole film and forget to write a story. I really hope this is just a “misleading trailer” problem. Marketers sometimes don’t know what to do with original material. I want this film to be great. This just made me nervous.  For the record, any man that is mad about seeing a female cast in the new Ghostbusters is being a fucking baby and needs to get off the internet, go outside, and get some fresh air.

To all our current Kickstarter backers:

We are about to drop some serious bonus prizes/rewards and new incentives on you guys. Thank you for being down for the cause since Day One. We will make it worth your while.

“I learned very early on to reel everything in. Sometimes you just shouldn’t do anything because the camera sees everything — like the smallest flick of your eye and it catches it and it reads as something. The performances I enjoy are the ones that are hard to read or ambiguous or left-of-centre because it makes you look closer and that’s what humans are like — quite mysterious creatures, hard to pinpoint.”

Happy Birthday, Emily Blunt!

Cate Blanchett talks about Carol’s Oscar snub

I guess this diminishes any hope I had that Limerence gets an Oscar. :)

To learn more about our film go to www.limerencefilm.com.

More things happen in your short than happen in that feature, Dan!

D’AWWWWWWWW man, warm feels. Thank you! To be honest I haven’t seen Carol yet. I’m holding out until this film is produced, then I’ll go see it. Trying to keep myself from comparing the two and getting knocked off center by it.
