What traits did your OC inherit from you, their creator?

Avatar
jayuswrites

Ooh, this is a fun one! I'm only going to use my "Heirs" OCs for now, but perhaps I'll come back and do this for my other projects!

Naviae: Moral outrage for injustice of any kind and hatred for cold weather

Hyndrhys: Love of reading (as well as the super intense hatred of being interrupted while reading) and extensive use of sarcasm

Piers: Emotional intelligence...coupled with my lack of discernment for when it's appropriate to pry deeper into or expunge certain aspects of people's lives (I don't mean to make people uncomfy, I promise. I just didn't realize the middle of a Starbucks was not the best time to ask you super personal questions.)

Tynvyl: The ability to go straight into "Fight Me" mode (despite being calm moments before) and antsiness at being "stuck" somewhere

Kelthyra Ennala: Diplomacy skills (despite being generally awkward) and general annoyance about nicknames

Xikai: Emotional Compartmentalization (the good and the bad of that, lol) and propensity to take long walks

Sheng-Li: Penchant for writing and love of all things strategic. He also has my dislike of sweets.

since some of yall (mostly racist white people and c**ns) got upset with me the other day about supporting black fanfiction writers, i decided to explain to you all about why i said what i said.

Avatar
jayuswrites

These were the things I really needed to hear as a young, black girl that was aspiring to be a writer. Sharing so someone like me can hear this sooner than I did.

There were many stories that I loved and enjoyed, but so few stories that I felt like I could truly relate to. Even today, there are a lot of stories or self-insert "imagines" on sites like this that, even if they try to be as inclusive as possible, are still obviously written by non-POCs. Things like "ran fingers through my hair," while cute and make me squeal, are not realistic for me and were damaging for my own self-image growing up.

I'm super appreciative that we have content like this now that helps to shed a light on the importance of this aspect of representation. It's great that people are trying to "include us in the cast," but I'd like to see more of us be the main characters.

Pretty Bird (Ficlet)

***Just to prove that I can write something lol. This is a "ficlet" piece that I wrote for my Creative Writing workshop class in 2017. Theme: Choose an animal (real or mythical) to use for a POV.***

Word Count: ~1k

I thought I would be frightened when my time came, especially surrounded by as many people as I was right now, but instead, I felt…calm.

And then there it was—a sudden burning as if I’d swallowed molten lava. The fire coursed through me, burning everything weak and pathetic away. The sheer anguish of it all is strong enough to force a scream from my mouth. I fell into—

Light. Not darkness, as I had been expecting. I fell into light. A blinding, soothing light that wrapped its arms around me.

I stood up and tapped my feathers against the edge of the light. It felt weaker in some areas, and I pushed against it with all of my strength. The shell broke after my third attempt, and I tumbled out of the light into brightness, colors, and a nest of dead feathers and sticks. It wasn’t until I peeked over the edge that I saw her, that I first saw Pretty Girl.

She was by the pond, and she was smiling at me. Of all the colors, she was the brightest. Every day, she would come to me and sing to me and tell me what a pretty bird I was, with my red and gold feathers. For the longest time, it was just the two of us: Pretty Girl and Pretty Bird.

Meet & Greet Monday

Hey writeblr community! Reblog this post to let others know you’d like some questions in your inbox every monday for/about your OCs!

Depending on the question, try to answer them ‘in-character!’ The goal is to introduce your OCs and flesh them out a bit more, so feel free to make lots of posts and be sure to tag them with ’#meet and greet monday’ or ’#magm’!

The idea for this lovely event was originally given to me by @scribbleoutauniverse, so be sure to check out their stuff, too!

Avatar

Definintely encouraging people to ask me anything about my OCs! It doesn’t have to be for a specific character! You can always ask a “which one of your characters would...” type question! Excited to get to know other people’s characters through this as well!

Anonymous asked:

I've done the research, but I don't think the results I've found have answered my question. My WIP stars a trio of teens who are 14 - 15. And since this story centers around change, firsts, and coming into one's own, I wanted to feature a romance between two of the three MCs. I know more subtle signs of romance include shared looks, unspoken communication, hand holding, shoulder bumps, gentle headbutts, and going out of your way for the person your care for. But is that everything?

The Subtle Signs of Romantic Interest and Love

Whether affection is just beginning to develop or two people are in the early stages of a relationship, there are lots of subtle signs to indicate romantic interest and love. In no particular order…

External Signs

- stolen glances- lingering looks- intense eye contact- sharing a knowing look- eyes meeting- looking away bashfully after eyes meet- feeling nervous/tongue-tied when trying to talk to the other person- voice cracks when trying to speak to the other person- flirting- straying from normal attitude or behavior with other person- denying interest in other person when pressed by friends (in early stages)- communicating feelings through the eyes (worry, pain, pride, love, etc.)- awkwardness after accidental touching- shared laughter after accidental touching- an “electric” feeling when touching the other person- speaking at the same time (a little cliché, but it can happen)- tentative touching- finding ways to touch when intimate touch is restricted- open, affectionate touching (holding hands, hugging, nuzzling, etc.)- brushing a lock of hair behind the ear- gently stroking jaw line, chin, or cheek- kissing forehead, temple, or top of head- rubbing nose tips together- displaying flirtatious tics like biting lip, twirling hair, running hand through hair- talking excitedly or affectionately about the other person to friends- constantly talking about the other person to friends- blushing when teased by friends about the other person- giving the other person meaningful gifts- keeping mementos as reminders of the other person- making excuses to be near the other person- making excuses to spend time with the other person- wanting to get to know the other person’s friends and family- good mood/always smiling from being with or thinking about other person- giving each other nicknames or using pet names/terms of endearment- being reminded of other person when listening to love songs- sharing possessions, letting each other borrow meaningful possessions- willing to make sacrifices to be with the other person or to make them happy- sharing secrets, or things not often shared, with the other person- speaking softly or whispering in the person’s ear- cheeks/neck/chest becoming flushed- moving quickly toward the other person to close the distance- sighing, either out of happiness or missing the other person- losing track of time when with the other person- feeling like the rest of the world melts away when with the other person

Internal Signs

- thinking fondly of the other person- thinking about them constantly- recalling fond memories- seeing constant reminders of the other person- worrying about the other person- daydreaming about future activities with the other person- daydreaming about sharing a future with the other person- analyzing a previous interaction- dreaming about the person- feeling “weak in the knees” around the other person- remembering moments containing looking/touching moments- wanting to know everything there is to know about the other person- wanting to spend every waking second with the other person- orchestrating meetings that seem to be happenstance- feeling joy/racing heartbeat/butterflies upon seeing other person- craving the person’s touch, or being able to touch them- constant feeling of being “on cloud nine”- often distracted due to thinking about other person- wanting to impress the other person or make them proud- when not with the other person, noticing things they would appreciate- unable to see anything but positives where the other person is concerned- feeling suddenly warm- feeling breathless- noticing (and loving) little details (moles, scars, birthmarks, unusual traits)- wanting to improve self to impress or benefit other person- eyes constantly seek the other person out- inability to stop looking at the person, difficulty not staring at them- thinking you see the other person in a crowd when they’re not there- difficulty sleeping/loss of sleep- feeling a deep desire to kiss the personIf you need an extra boost, watch a few romantic comedies or love stories. Watch the way the characters behave as their interest in one another is building and as they begin to explore a relationship. :)

New Writeblr!

Hello!

You can call me Grace. While I’m not new to tumblr, I am new to the writeblr community so I’m a tad nervous / excited! I love writing and have been doing so all my life, but I’ve mostly written fanfiction and am only recently focusing on my original fiction.

My current WIPS:

- ‘The Persephone Complex,’ (working title) A lesbian fantasy that vaguely functions as a retelling of the Hades / Persephone myth

- ‘Soft Waters,’ a lesbian magical realism short story (though I may expand to a novel, who knows?) about an ‘aquatic anthropologist’ who falls for a mermaid.

- ‘Marmalade,’ a contemporary novel about a teen boy dragging his friends on a road trip to murder his step-father.

- ‘Little Inferno,’ aka the bane of my existence. A short story that is either a stalker/unrequited “”love story”” or a Get Out-esque supernatural horror. Which one is it? Who knows!

- ‘The Constant,’ (working title) a horror short story about a lesbian couple who get more than they bargained for when they vacation to a little cabin in the woods.

I have too many wips oof!

Please like or rb this if you’re an active writeblr! Especially if you’re a writer of color or lgbt+!

I don’t have any writer friends irl so I’d love to meet people here! I’m excited to share my own work and read all of yours as well. Anyways have a nice day/night and happy writing! <3

Badtameez* (by MV Alzakhm) WIP Reintroduction

Log-Line: In this epistolary graphic novel-come-mystery, a devout Muslim real estate magnate is accused by the press of having an extramarital affair (and an unforgivable past). To determine the veracity of these tabloid allegations, readers must sift through a series of text messages, social media posts, and digital transactions chronicled entirely in the absence of traditional narration.

*In Urdu (and other languages), badtameez means “bad manners”.

Comp Titles: Gossip Girl x Succession Themes: Race, Class, Sexuality, Religion, Morality Keywords: Graphic Novel, Drama, Mystery, Romance, New England, Contemporary, POC-Centered Narrative, LGBTQ-Centered Narrative, Ensemble Cast, Multiple Strong Female Protagonists Target Word Count: ~70-80K Content: WIP Summary · Excerpts · Creations · Inspo · Q&A · Tag List

THIS STORY MAY ALSO CONTAIN:

  • Masquerades designed for anonymity
  • Penthouse views of multiple cities
  • Vows, engagements, and weddings
  • More money than could ever be necessary
  • Chat logs that reveal incriminating histories
  • Scenic drives in an electric Lamborghini
  • Love, loss, and the pursuit of belonging
  • Security cam footage leaked to the paparazzi
  • Depictions of the road from addiction to recovery

Tags below the cut! (It looks like tumblr may be excluding this post from populating in search due to some of the sensitive content described in the text. Reblogs would be greatly appreciated for those who can spare it.) xoxo

This whole idea is just SO COOL!!!!!! I love me a good mystery and it’s really interesting to incorporate readers into a story! Everything I’ve seen for this is just. So fantastic????

I’m really excited to see where this goes 👀👀👀👀

Hii! welcome to writeblr😁 Im gonna ask for number 15 from the wip ask game you rebloged ~@this-is-where-i-write-stuff

Avatar

Hi there! Thanks so much for the welcome and the ask! I may have cheated just a little bit and posted more than just a “line” lol.

15. Post a line from a WIP that you’re working on.

She stretched her arm beneath her tunic to feel her back—and bit back a scream as her fingers found the ruptured skin.
Two holes, large and gaping, on both of her shoulder blades. Her wings. Her dragon. Both of them, she realized, gone.

Hi humans!

I’m a new writeblr kid on the block. A little bit about me:

🌻she/her

🌻21 years old (Sagittarius)

🌻 I’m from the uk, the countryside for now but I’m usually studying in London

🌻I study illustration/animation at uni

🌻I’m a spoonie, any chronically ill writers around?

I’ve been writing my WIP since... possibly forever. It’s changed a lot over the years and I’m finally at a point where the story and writing has really matured and come into its own. Silver linings of lock down, I’ve written more than I’ve written in years.

🔮My wip is a Y/A contemporary fantasy, magical realism etc etc, based on elemental witches in the modern day and the hardships they face. Still no title. (I’ll get better at describing my work one day, I too am a wip)

So I’m looking for blogs to follow that share writing tips, inspiration, the whole deal

Anyway, sorry for babbling. Hope you’re all safe and well, and I look forward to being distracted from actually writing☕️

WIP INTRODUCTION: A FLORIST’S GUIDE TO TWISTING TIME

The necromancer faced away from them, head obediently bowed in front of the family altar. Neither man could tell whether she was paying homage to her predecessors or prying her cuffs open. Though with necromancers, they supposed the difference was often the same.

GENRES: asian fantasy (japan), dark comedy, low fantasy, young adult (as of now)

THEMES & TROPES: bad bromance, black comedy, curses, fate worse than death, hanahaki disease, japanese folklore & myths (come to life with some exageration), found family + family fluff, insert paranormal tropes, mad scientist/science hero, necromancy, politics, several things worse than necromancy and politics, rivals to other things, realism with running gags, tragic villain, etc.

SUMMARY: The practice of botanical alchemy is an act forbidden by the San Teikoku. No one quite knows why, except that it nearly led the magical world to its demise millennia ago. The practice is little more than rumor in the Tekkō Era—a period of peace where both the natural sciences and the occult have coexisted for centuries. That is, until a local necromancer is accused of being a practitioner and the world is thrown into chaos.

With her execution date looming close, Ruriko Kikue is presented with a choice: admit to a treason she didn’t commit and be sentenced to life imprisonment, or accept the task the Kuri Administration of Alchemy is willing to offer—a task that investigates the source of the rumors in exchange for total pardon. Choosing the latter, Ruriko suddenly finds herself barreling towards a side of magic she never knew existed.

There she learns that botanical alchemy might be the darkest occult practice the world has ever known.

Shoot me an ask to be added to the WIP taglist. No asks, no notice.

Dot some villages and castles, add some monsters, give everything a silly made-up name, and you got yourself a fantasy world.

the only thing my geography gcse is good for, is for knowing environments and how they function
