A muffled noise rings from your pocket. Moving carefully so as not to disturb the foils in your hair, you fish your phone out. Oh, it’s Alphys. You have a sneaking suspicion as to what she’s calling about. “Hey, what’s up?”

“Um, hi Shore, uh. I’m sorry, this is going to sound uh, really random but ah. Mettaton’s not with you, is he?”

You glance to your left. Mettaton has his head back, clearly enjoying his facial treatment delivered via power tools to his temple and the buffing of his nails. “He’s right next to me, actually.”

Alphys swears, which is a rare thing indeed.

ALSO I am showing this piece off because it is very relevant to this chapter. It inspired the ending scene and was drawn by the absolutely amazing @cipher-the-sidhe

Please consider commissioning them to help out with their various medical bills!!

Ocean on Fire Chapter 61: The Invitation

Grillby too has fallen into complete silence. He backs away until he hits the wall and slides to the ground and puts his hand over his face.

Guilt twists your insides. You kneel down in front of him. "I'm sorry," you murmur. "I'm so sorry. But we know the truth now. If I have the chance to use my power to find the other monsters before the same happens to them, I have to at least try. Right?"

His hand remains covering his face. He exhales heavily. “ Shit .”

Ocean on Fire Chapter 60

Standing before Asgore, you are terrifyingly shown just how much stronger the boss monster is compared to Gerson. You haven’t even started sparring yet and you still feel yourself wanting to cower from the sheer suffocating presence that he brings.

Though to be fair, the weight and awe of his power is tampered a smidge by his cargo shorts and button up beach shirt. And the fact that you can already see sand caking up in the thick fluff of his feet and legs.

Ocean on Fire Chapter 59: The Deal and The Care

“Because I knew you’d be the most normal about…everything,” you admit. “And I’ve put Grillby through too much trouble the last few days.” You sigh and scuff your shoe against a pebble in the walkway. “I’m sorry, I was just scared to come on my own.”

He’s quiet for a few, unnaturally long seconds. Then he plops his gloved hand down on the top of your head. “WELL, IF IT IS NORMAL YOU WANT, I AM AFRAID I CANNOT GIVE YOU THAT.”

Hey, I'm sorry if asking this bothers you or I'm annoying you but I wanted to know why the comments have been turned off on ocean of fire?

I kept trying to find anything saying why after I saw they had been turned off while I was trying to leave a comment about how I loved coming back and re-reading the story, but I can't find anything. Again, sorry for bothering you about this

Heya, it's not a bother, truly. And I really appreciate that you enjoy rereading the story! I did make a brief post about it, but I honestly can't remember if I tagged it properly or not. I was in a bit of a state at the time.

I turned them off for a few reasons. My mental health took a nose dive this year. Burn out, family death, car accident, all of it had me in a really bad place. And I was getting nothing but comments that all basically followed two themes:

"I don't like what you did with the war chapters/story and here's why."

"When is this updating?"

It got to a point where seeing a notification that I had a comment would give me panic attacks. So many of you guys are very, very kind with your comments. But not knowing if my email would have something nice or something hateful was too much. Objectively I know that it's just people, and the lovers of the story far outmatch the haters. But convincing my brain of that is tough.

I'll turn them back on eventually, but while OoF is on hiatus, I need to keep them off to stop the guilt of needing a break and that is my actual therapist's orders. I hope this doesn't dampen any enjoyment you get out of the story, turning off the comments isn't meant to be a punishment or anything, it's just for my own sake and peace of mind for a little bit
