I’m often too willing and too open to love I find myself obsessing over it and it haunts me in the latest hours of the night, I find myself chasing after men who remind me all too much of my father, You pursue me with porcelain smiles and laughter , And I fall for it , like I’ve done before a time or two , Like I always do , Promises hang in the air like autumn leaves too stubborn to hit the ground , and much like a yard in fall , promises are unkept , then it hits me that your remind me all too much of my father , When I’m with you I get this type of anxiety , Like you’ll forget about me , Like he forgot about me , Then comes the tension, Much like the tension you share with me when I’m pressed between you and your sheets , Because I decided to settle for a temporary love , That benefitted you and your satisfaction and wounded my ego , my pride , and now my trust issues just wont subside , You just remind me all too much of my father , So when you roll over at night and see my crying a quarter til three , It’s because I’ll know you’ll be leaving me , And my life will become much like it has been , nothing but a revolving door of men , who remind me all too much him , The first man to break my heart. -Leah Dunn
