This morning I was reading a fanfic (ao3) and everything was fine until in the comment section the author answered a question about the writing AI she was using. I felt such visceral disgust at that. I dropped the story like it was acid.

To those that use AI. How dare you? How dare you to have the audacity of using a program that steals people's creativity? How dare you feed it, taking that which was granted with love and passion and then transform it into a soulless program? How dare you bend yourself to these corporations that only seek to exploits us further?

I would 100% prefer to read a fic that has mistakes but that has care into every word and a person behind it with immense love for the fandom, than to read Shakespeare vomited by a code that it was written by a thousand cunts that wank themselves at a picture of Mark Zuckerberg.

If you're doing mental gymnastics to justify art theft and exploitation, then there's no mistake. You are wrong. Nothing will change that.

What I don't get about the password-sharing fiasco is....if it was the olden days and you rented a couple DVD/VHS movies, until you brought them back to the shop you could do whatever with them.

You could give them to other people to watch. You could show a movie to a group of ten friends. You had already paid for the tapes, so who was going to care what you did with them in that time?

Similarly, if you have already paid for a Netflix/Max/Dianey+/Paramount+/whatever subscription, you're getting charged monthly for that. The companies have already decided how much it is worth to rent their entire catalogue to you for a month.

So during your "rental period" for these movies and shows, who are they to say what you do with them? If you have someone over for Netflix and chill, they aren't part of your household, so should they not be able to watch a movie you are renting? If you want your friends to see something cool, who cares if they live a town away? That movie is still being paid for, and your "rental" will renew the following month when you pay your bill.

It feels like going to a video store, paying for a bunch of movies, then having to march back to the store with the friend who's going to watch them with you so they can also pay for the movies......while you're still renting them.

pineapples, come on closer (1983)

Recorded in 1983 by 18-year-old Italo disco producer Roberto Ferrante and voiced by otherwise unknown Douglas Roop, a soldier who was working at the south Europe NATO headquarters in Naples, “Come on Closer” was such a classic of early Chicago house that original pressings now sell on eBay for upwards of $200. I found it a few years back and have been listening for ages without any knowledge of its origins. Last year, it was sampled on Neon Indian’s “Psychic Chasms,” giving it another small resurgence in popularity online. I decided to see if I could figure out where it came from. Amazingly, I managed to find this interview with Ferrante in which he reveals all (via flexx / kitsch club):

How did you come to produce a disco track at the tender age of 18?
I was trying to make music as a real job from the age of 14. At 18 when Best Records released “Come on Closer,” it was a huge success in the Italian and French clubs and radios. So I left immediately the university (I was studying architecture) to continue the job of artistic record producer.
Who is Douglas Roop? Contrary to most Italian disco productions he has a decent accent which makes us believe he is, in fact, American.
Yes, he came from Texas. In 1983, he was in Naples (my city) working as a soldier in the NATO base (south Europe Nato headquarter) in Naples.
Are you aware that “Come on Closer” was a big track in the early Chicago House scene and was of great influence to DJs like Mickey Oliver?
No, I absolutely don’t know nothing of this. I really LOVE this music period and I’m really fascinated from your info about this situation, and is funny for me to remember at that time, the old Italian house DJs always criticized my old productions [as being] “too commercial and Euro-oriented.” But the fact was that I reached the Billboard USA sales charts three times with my “too much Euro-oriented” productions, and many, many times the Japanese, UK, French, Italian, Holland etc. sales and club charts.
What was the Italo disco scene like for you in the 80’s?
In the 80s, but above all in the ‘90s, Italo disco scene was for me a great “place” to have fun, make money, trip around the world, and have a lot of good sex (with the disco club professional dancers). Now that everything is death here in Europe, I find the same old good energy and things in the Caribbean Music scene.
Good for you! One for the gear-freaks: What equipment did you use to produce "Come on Closer”?
Only two gears! An old Oberheim Drum Machine and all the sounds with my analog keyboard Korg Polysix, WITHOUT A SEQUENCER, everything played by my hand in real time. We record the project in an old and ugly studio in Naples on a 3M 24-track tape record machine and an old 70’s mixer made in Italy. “Come on Closer” was the first dance record success produced in Naples and in the south of Italy.
What was your motivation for recording disco tracks? We read in your bio that you also played in more aggressive punk/rock bands.
I’ve thousands and thousands of records– vinyl and CD of every kind of music. In 22 years, I’ve released eurodance, house, italian hip hop, pop topseller italian artists. Maybe you remember this old song that says: “I love music, every kind of music…”

there are literally so many reasons why we don't need a third Narnia adaptation

first of all, while they might not be the most accurate, the Disney movies are actually so good and, in my opinion, still manage to capture the heart and soul of the series and what it's truly about. The characters are each perfectly portrayed; the Pevensies act like actual siblings and yet love each other dearly and would die for each other even through all the petty arguments; the music creates perfect atmosphere and emotion and never fails to make me tear up or get shivers down my spine; and the CGI is honestly just absolutely stunning.

I really do not feel like we need another adaptation by Netflix.

Especially not through Netflix.

im so done with seeing articles about kids and screen time that doesnt mention parent behaviors even once. “kids are always on their phones” so are the parents! which the kids look to for how they should behave! ipad babies didn’t chose to only play on their ipads, thats what their parents gave them!

an anecdotal example: when i was a kid, all my parents would do in their minimal free time was watch tv and then they would be surprised when in my sister and i’s minimal free time we would also only watch tv/play video games. they scolded us for not reading books, but they never read books. they scolded us for not going outside but they never went outside.

“kids are always on their damn phones” my mom is in her 60s and opens up candy crush anytime she’s sitting — it isnt just the kids

i am once again asking anyone who writes a retelling of romeo and juliet from rosaline's perspective to remember that

she. rejects. romeo.

she doesn't fall in love with him. she doesn't dump him. she turns him down straight out the gate because she has chosen a life of chastity!!!

and by making her story about the guy who once asked her out (and who she then turned down) or taking away the two choices we know this unseen character has made, you are not giving us the feminist retelling you think you are!!!

I am once again begging people to recognize that Susan was no longer a Friend of Narnia NOT because of "lipstick and nylons" but because she rejected Narnia and refused to consider it anything more than a child's game.

"Once a King or Queen of Narnia, always a King or Queen of Narnia." Her rejection of her people is why she was not a Friend, NOT because she had other interests. We can talk about why Lewis chose those particular interests for Susan or why he chose Susan out of all the Pevensies all we like (which can be/are interesting and worthwhile discussions) but the point he was making is "Susan wants so badly to be grown up and accepted by the world at large that she rejects what she knows to be true" not "NYLONS AND LIPSTICK BAD. WOMAN SHALLOW"

Narnia is not free of sexism, but everyone gets hung up on the "Susan Problem" when there are plenty of other things to talk about in the text regarding women.

It's important to note that it's "lipsticks, nylons and invitations", indicating that it was materialism and social climbing that became her focus. It was not sexuality or femininity bring demonized, but the immersion into shallow secularity, turning her back on Narnia and its people.

it irritates me to no end when people say north american birds are dull in comparison to other countries’ birds

blue jay

american kestrel

painted bunting

yellow-throated vireo

cerulean warbler

baltimore oriole

american goldfinch

northern cardinal

You’re forgetting the red wing black bird and the great and snowy egret. Best birds of the marsh!

I love how they’re all looking into the camera like they’re modeling.

other beautiful featherbeasts include orb bird

stylish accessory bird

loud and delicious bird

bird that will kung fu your face while you are grilling in your backyard

overly dramatic fishwizard bird

demonic creepy noise duck

assorted sky-cats

screaming inflatable doofus bird

stump

not technically native but it poops on my lawn

toasted marshmallow friend

How.. could you forget… MEEP… MEEP

One of my favorite North American birds is the Californian Mountain Chickadee.

This pudgy little bastard has a call that sounds like “Cheeseburger”.

some nice kids, thanks @fozmeadows

can't believe no one added the bird with the call that can instantly calm any American
