So this morning the gremlin that resides in my brain made a fascinating point about the Ember Island Players.

There is absolutely no reason for them to not know what side of the face Zuko's scar is on. He was the crown prince. He is literally wanted for TREASON. There are people actively hunting him that know what he looks like. But because of the Ember Island Players, the /public/ doesn't know what he looks like. Zuko is able to move freely within the nation that is hunting him down because "that can't be the real zuko, the scar is on the wrong side."

Same with Toph. She obviously isn't a giant, and doesn't use echolocation either. But now she is also able to move freely around the fire nation without the public suspecting anything.

Why is that? Iroh. He has to be backing the Ember Island Players and giving them information to feed to the public so that the nephew he loves, and the people he knows will push the world into becoming a better place have a shield of false information in the public eye so they can move more freely to do what needs to be done.

remember in School of Rock where the black girl was afraid to say she wanted to be a singer because she was fat and didn’t want to get laughed at but Dewey was all “who gives a shit, I’m fat too and so is aretha franklin but we’re still valuable and we rock” and then the girl felt better without having to be told that beauty comes in all sizes or some other bullshit. thats the kind of body positivity I’m looking for. tell these babies that they’re worth a damn without tying it to any other arbitrary ideals
