Types of Souls: Portland Districts
Lloyd District: Neon signs, fingerless gloves, cigarette smoke, steel-toed boots, thick, dark eyeliner, stray cats, the iridescence of oil in rain puddles, climbing a tree to the very top, the strange satisfaction of watching the sunrise after an all-nighter.
Pearl District: Cat eye sunglasses, pocket-watches, gold lipstick, old fountains, perfect nails, pulling up late to a party, fast cars, velvet theater curtains, stained glass, three rings stacked on the same finger, worry stones and handwritten letters shoved into the pockets of fur coats.
Downtown: Redbrick sidewalks, freshly-made donuts, wool coats with high collars, staying up all night, the clink of faded pennies, wandering through an art museum, shiny shoes, collared shirts, walking towards the horizon until you can’t feel your feet.
Northwest Portland: Dried roses, collar pins, robin’s eggs, swing skirts, rotary phones, fluffy dogs, cherry pie, plaid picnic blankets, working on a watercolor in the back of an elegant cafe, the distant bubbling of a creek.
Old Town Chinatown: Paper lanterns, running water, freshly picked oranges, pedicabs, harp music, cherry blossoms, rust, blown glass figurines, warm light streaming from upstairs windows after sunset, the clatter of trains coming and going.
Alberta Arts District: Buckets of paint, embroidery, cream soda, intricate tattoos, neighborhood barbecues, live jazz music, strings of fairy lights, melting ice cream, stargazing from the back of an old pickup truck.
