4. If the car pulls up to you run in the opposite direction.

5. Walk with your keys in your hands and keep a key between each finger

6. If they put you in the trunk kick out the headlights

7. If you get lost find a woman with a child. Never ask a man for help (this one was drilled)

That scream fire piece of advice is literally life saving

8. Watch your shadows and reflections, especially if someone is walking behind you. A split second notice is better than none and will help you.

Yes this last one really saves lives y'all I do it all the time

- always tell someone where youre at and an approx time when youll be back

Add text replacement words in your phone if possible. Something short and memorable that you can send quickly to people in moments of emergencies.

E.g.

I f ing hate that we need to reblog this, people suck, but this will save lives.

I’m a guy and it’s absolutely horrible that women have to live in fear like this

I’ll add what I grew up learning:

- never put your name or initials on clothing or bags (especially for kids) because it gives an attacker/abductor the upper hand and an in to gain trust.

-teach your kids a password that only you and they know and to use in an emergency (my partner and I even have one). If a stranger comes up to them and says “your mom/dad asked me to come get you” your kid will ask for the password and if the stranger doesn’t know it, the kid knows to run/scream,etc.

- never wear shoes you can’t run in.

- if walking alone:

——don’t wear your hair in a pony tail because it’s an easy grip for an attacker and they will be able to control you more easily.

—— don’t talk on your phone. It seems like having someone on the other line is a deterrent, but in reality, it only distracts you from paying better attention to your surroundings. Better is have a friend that knows where you’ll be and will call the police if you don’t check in at a certain time or answer after a designated number of tries.

I’ll add:

Never leave your drink unattended.

All this is such great and important advice 🙌🏻 well done to all who’ve contributed. However the SADDEST part is that a post like this even has to fucking exist to begin with 😔😔😔

Somewhere in a similar post I read something that helped me know to respond to someone that needs intervention.

My inclination is to approach and try to comfort the intended victim but in fight or flight that can be as scary. The suggestion was to put yourself between the offender and the intended target and engage the offender and keep their focus on you.

This made sense to me so I have changed my actions.

And what a shitty world for women to navigate.
