Just as planned

Sure enough it was hard to stop Bismarck but that was never Kako’s plan, the whole plan was to give her enough bigger bodies to stall, to steer with, to ensure trying to run the full thing wouldn’t be worth it. But the rest all stood spread out, and being less of a big and small, and more mediums, any girl that got in front of the destroyer could be fast but also beefier.
The Japanese girl with a big grin on her face, all she needed was someone fast to steer the receiver destroyer to the sides, and she’d be cornered off by a cruiser, and if they could get it and counter. Over all spread out teammates and speed would be hard to stop.
At least in theory, Kako was showing some smarts and skills. Even if all plans never truly worked out.

Bismarck’s team moved in perfect coordination, another destroyer ready to receive the ball if the other needed to pass, but that cost time and the pass might be able to be intercepted...

Kako had the same advantage, her team with the exception of her had been dripped together and knew how to work together, and Bismark was falling back to the back line to be a solid wall in case Kako got the ball and broke through.

Kako nodded and brought the ball back to her picked team, oddly bringing them all in to discuss stuff. Firstly an introduction, a talk of a plan, and how they could really both impress Bismarck but maybe even squeak a win.
A little tactical and a little leadership, as well as trying to get the other girl’s trust. All in all they’d line up and with a kick, the ball would be hurling towards Bismarck, kicked off by Admiral Hipper.

As a lone plane droned overhead what followed was logical, the battleship got the ball and ran pull speed. With her weight she would be unstoppable after all, the two teams hurtling towards each other, Bismarck’s team forming up either side of her and a little behind.

Than as she was closed in on Bismarck passed the ball down the line, a destroyer catching it and running wide up the side for the line with all the speed she could muster.

‘Don’t be silly’ was enough to aggravate New Zealand, but she did not bristle, keeping herself outwardly neutral even as she inwardly was ablaze. She forced herself not to interrupt, not to try to verbally spar. In fact, she didn’t speak at all for a good half minute, staring unblinkingly, before inexplicably breaking out into a smile.
Image
Oi am no fool, mate. But Oi give you my word, as a bettlecruisah and a Kiwi — Oi will be part’a the fleet that kills you. Oi’ll do my best to be the one who fires that killing blow. A quick death is more than you deserve. But I’m not one for cruelty,” New Zealand said. She’d begun to speak in her normal relatively quick pace, but had slowed as she focused.
Her smile had taken on a warm quality that was the entire opposite of her words. So, too, did it belay the pure ice that had become of the emotion in her voice — frozen, by fury and self-control alike. “Make no mistake, mate.
Image
I will be the one who lays you low.
Image

“What I want most of all in this world is to die. A death in battle, however agonizing, however slow. I want the thing that kills me to be a shell that pierces my heart and destroys it forever so that I never have to reawaken to the nightmare of what I am. It would be slightly poetic for you to be the one to land that blow but you cannot beat me.”

Image

“That is not boasting, or bravado, just simple fact. I would welcome your best attempts if I believed it could succeed. I would welcome your rippling salvo obliterating my head right here in this moment if it would be enough to do the job. You are old, even with your recent upgrades you would wound me at best, then would come the ignoble end by aircraft for myself... Far from the honorable end I desire... the only kind of end the oni in me will let me find. Do not worry, I know who will kill me. I have studied her and she is strong enough. If you want to be a part of my death then find her and deliver this.”

A package was placed on the table, long, curved, and wrapped up tightly in silk. Even bound it was obviously a sword.

Image

“I took it from her friend in a duel. Only Musashi can kill me, She can have the pleasure of giving this back to Hyuuga.”

“Good luck.” Kako liked the selection of girls she had, all seemed fast with a few not too heavy but durable girls. People who could get pushed over but still slow someone else down, and people who were still faster than the others.
Truly thinking like a cruiser division girl, she watched Prinz bring over the coin before joking, “Is not a weighted coin is it haha.”
Once it was flip they called their sides, and the flip went Bismarck’s way, setting Kako into the mindset of a plan. She couldn’t stop a score, but they could match it point for point, each time had their strong suites after all.
“Let’s go, bring it on Bismarck-san!~”
Image

“I win the kickoff, maybe it is rigged... in either case I opt to receive.” she handed Kako the ball to start with, the match would begin when whomever Kako chose as kicker kicked it to Bismarck’s side. They were playing to unusual rules, perhaps but this was not about the game...

“And so you agree that the attack has been a net positive for your war effort, with the stakes raised more and more resources will be pored into hunting down every abyssal beneath the seas… no please do not stand up. If we were to have ‘a bit of a go’ it would not end well for you… for this restaurant… nor this town… even if I were trying to avoid collateral damage two battleships going at it tend to leave a bit of a mess…”
Image
“Yes yes, it’s me… the battleship water demon who did that…” she glanced at the TV. “Showing up in the UK. My cover has been blown so it was only a matter of time until you found out anyway…” she sighed.
Image
“I did mean what I said, I am going to miss our talks… as you can imagine it is very rare for me to take someone to talk to who does not want to kill me, even my sister… I was human once…then a ship… now this… It makes sense in a way. Between my sister and I I was the one always jealous… never feeling adequate. It took seeing the light brighter than the sun again for the scales to fall from my eyes…”

New Zealand looked down and forced her surprise to show only with a slow blink, but her expression quickly hardened. Trapped by societal convention and a refusal to let civilians die, she did not do more than a lethal glare. “The attack has zero positives’ta it. Your actions killed tens of thousands of innocents, who would’nt have gotten involved otherwoise. You made the decision’ta commit one‘a the most barbaric acts in the world’s history.”

The spoon she placed on the table lightly, putting her hands in her lap and straightening up. The battlecruiser, on the surface, remained calm in body language. Her words were far harsher than previous.

Image

You already know Oi suspected you’fah not being what’cha were from the get-go,” New Zealand said. “After the attack, Oi felt terrible. Oi wasn’t there’ta defend my country. Oi wondered about the timing, too. Oi mention New Zealand’s vulnerability’ta somebody suspicious looking, they disappear’fah a while, and then Auckland’s flattened.” She paused for a moment. “You flattened Auckland. Now Oi know. That Oi gave the information you acted on.” That glare hadn’t subsided, not one bit.

“Don’t be silly, if you had been there you would have been killed. A lone ancient battlecruiser against the mightiest battleship alive and her fleet... it would have been no contest. It’s a good thing you were not there... trust me getting one of those bombs dropped on you is not something you want... and do you really think I would have attacked merely on the comment of one ship?”

Image

“By all means blame yourself... but trust me that path leads to where I am now. An inevitable position, though hopefully by years end it will be done and I will be free. I cannot tell you how much I long for death.”

Image

“So let my last words to you be this. Do not look for me. My death will not be at your hands and if we meet I will kill you, it will not even be a contest and your life will have ended needlessly.”

“I didn’t have much choice in it. The government was hellbent on war because we deluded ourselves that we were a match for the US, if we could catch them unawares. And we completely failed, causing the loss of 2/3 of the carrier fleet just six months later, including me!”
Image
“The Abyss has the right idea?! Shaw, listen to yourself. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in a sneak attack, yes, but the Abyssals attacked it twice without barely any warning! The whole reason that I summoned Missouri’s spirit into myself was because Pearl was fucked without an adequate defense. I may not have been there the first time, but I sure as hell was for the second.”
Image
“The Abyss takes hold of you, twists you into a mockery of yourself as you tear old friend and foe alike in a blind thirst for blood and vengeance. And that’s what attacked Pearl again: lost souls warped into attacking the people they once defended. Even Arizona fell to the Abyss, because I failed and wasn’t there to protect her.”
Image
“Ending Arizona’s suffering was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I don’t want you to suffer and fall like she did.”
Image

“No you listen to yourself. Saying you are Japanese, one of the carriers who did this to me. The government has turned it’s back on us, you are the enemy, there is no one I have left. I want you to leave or I will make you leave. I have no one left. I don’t care what you have to say AKAGI!” Without rigging she had no way to carry out her threat against the larger ship however.

“Then Admiral Hipper will be my pick.” A strong girl Kako though, but like Bismarck said, they’d need a lot more to handle her. Kako had a plan though, a strong girl wasn’t needed to stop Bismarck, only stall and delay. Being part of a cruiser squadron before, she’d rely on the faster muscle to push through the smaller parts of the team, speed with the destroyers to get possession, cruisers to push through, and just someone to steer Bismarck wide.
Standing with their teams set, Kako had some confidence, a growing confidence in fact. One that hopefully Bismarck noticed, now that she was getting into things, it was clear. The more this girl had fun, the more she seemed ready for the biggest challenges.

Bismarck’s picks were very slanted towards the heavy side but she had a plan too, one that would test Kako more than their team composition...

Image

“I trust that everyone knows the rules. The kickoff will be decided by coin toss and remember the ball will behave differently on water than on grass.” she waited for Prinz to come up with the coin to stand between the team captains.

Image

“I am looking forwards to this Kako, good luck with your game and gave fun, okay?”

“Hmm.” Kako had to think this over, already it seemed like Bismarck had picked an ace to her team and they would have to deal with Bismarck being the holy battleship no doubt. “I think I have an idea of who might help.”
“I want the next heaviest ship girl on my team, at least to start! I think I need someone to go body to body with you Bismarck-san. Then I’ll get the rest of my team ready to show you a thing or two.” At least Kako was confident.
Image

“One of the heavy cruisers then, on of Prinz’s sisters but remember I am the heaviest by far there and you will need fleet as well as poser for this game. Countering my strength with strength will not be easy.” once Kako was picked from the cruisers Bismarck chose a destroyer and the selection continued until the teams formed.

Much is in motion, Oi agree,” New Zealand responded. She, too, was watching the screen. For but a moment, the camera focused on a shipgirl in harbour, a woman with a carrier’s deck on her arm and a rifle over her shoulder.
Image
Another unexpected protector showed up, too. So it’s not like my absence is sorely missed.” The battle cruiser picked up her spoon, only to dangle it absent-mindlessly. Her expression was a conflicted one, as if she was simultaneously grateful but jealous.
Image
Still, wouldn’t mind having a bit of a go with that abyssal shelled my homeland. Not that I’m expecting her’ta show up in the UK, Oi don’t think she’d be able’ta make that journey — its a long way from En Zed’ta Tipperary.”
Image

“And so you agree that the attack has been a net positive for your war effort, with the stakes raised more and more resources will be pored into hunting down every abyssal beneath the seas... no please do not stand up. And right in the face, knocking off her glasses. Yomi had to quickly put them back on her face. “Ow! Careful where you throw these things!”

“You’re right, Utah would understand you. I know because I’ve met her over in England. She’s still very bitter about the attack, freaks out at the sight of planes. You know what’s the difference between you and her? She’s now known as a Battleship Princess.”
image

“Now you are just lying.” Mo wasn’t making this any easier on herself as the destroyer picked up the other cushion and hurled that too. “And even if you are not then she’s still more American then you and if that’s what it takes to keep your true self then maybe the abyss has the right idea.” she wasn’t thinking with her head, but her passion flowed through her as a yell. “I was there, I saw what they did. I felt what they did. If you had been there too or even alive then then you would understand, or maybe you wouldn’t since you’re one of them, those who pride honor but attack from the back,”

Well, that’s that, Kongou hurries through the door, soon stopping in front of Maya only to give her a single hug. “Thanks Maya!” After getting a whiff of Maya, Kongou abruptly removed herself from Maya, soon looking around for the admiral but no one was around, which is fortunate the admiral isn’t stuck but unfortunate for Kongou.
“Booo… She’s not around..” She comment, slouching a bit in disappointment.
Image

The hug was unexpected but a small ego boost for the cruiser who stood tall and preened her nails as Kongou expected the room.

“Who is not ar... oh...” Kongou’s intent became clear, the boisterous battleship wanted the commanding officer, but Maya couldn’t let Kongou slump like that when she was feeling great so she slapped Kongou on the back in what was meant to be a gesture of camaraderie.

Image

“You expected them to be locked in here? Why would they lock their door with them inside it? They’re probably getting a drink...” a drink sounded pretty nice.

“Darn.” Kako played a little with it, of course it wasn’t allowed not that she ever thought about that. Following Bismarck she actually found herself surprised, “wait me? As the captain of the other team. Are you sure the other girls will be okay with that.”
Not to mean the scale between them, but then if Kako played it right she could use her speed and let someone else deal with Bismarck’s power. “I don’t expect anything less, but then. Don’t underestimate me Bismarck-san.”
Image

“They will be okay with following my orders, if I say it is you then it will be you.” the pride of the navy said almost insulted Kako doubted this. “As my sister is not here we will only have cruisers and destroyers to choose from. My first choice is Prinz Eugen.” as if there was ever any doubt this would be her pick.

Surprised at the ease of which the suspicious agent had entered, the battlecruiser was at first silent, observing the other.

Everything about’cha has been ‘ohiti,’ ta say the least,” she’d eventually say. “It’s wrong’ta assume. But nobody just seeks out a bettlecruisah.” New Zealand looked away for a moment, a grimace forming.
Image
Yes, Oi’ve rather hoped’ta get back home. But’fah one reason or another, Oi was unable. Ta the point that Oi’ve been transferred back’ta the Royal Navy. Oi’m afraid Oi’m here’ta stay in the British Oisles. Haven’t been happy about that.”
But New Zealand was hesitant to say more – how she suspected Ohiti wasn’t on the Allied side, how she suspected that she’d given an abyssal a target by ruminating on vulnerable New Zealand.
Image

“Well yes, I suspect from your perspective they have... but in my position you learn quickly that you can never make any friends. But do not discount yourself so easily, you fought in the largest clash of dreadnaughts and super deadnaughts the world has ever seen. Following the brave lion even as many lives were taken instantly around you...”

She meshed her fingers, glancing at the TV as it silently displayed images of the cleanup of the city.

Image

“Yes, things are in motion, I imagine both our island nations will be receiving a lot more support after this, the abyssal responsible will be hunted down and destroyed, their threats to the other nations will ensure that...”

The Date

She had long ago promised to meet with a woman so suspicious that New Zealand had given her the moniker Ohiti - a moniker the woman seemed to have worn with pride. Only a couple weeks later, her home had suffered a calamity of previously unknown heights, losing the majority of the Navy and resulting in the bombardment of the city. Many things had happened since then, very few of them happy things.

It had been quite a few months since then.  Yesterday, a note had been taped to her door. A reservation, it said. A dinner for two at a good restaurant nearby. It was addressed from Ohiti.

Despite her misgivings, the battlecruiser was here. She had a pistol in a thigh holster, and it was concealed under her flowing dress, but it was her only protection. Otherwise, she’d come here without the intention to fight. Because Ohiti was, after all, merely ohiti. Her worry and paranoia could be entirely unwarranted. New Zealand seemed to have arrived first, and the waitress directed her to a seat at a table for two.

Image

It was time to wait for the ‘agent.’

Avatar
hmshood51

The agent would sit down suddenly, seemingly able to pass through the crowded restaurant without being noticed. Once seated she smiled at the battlecruiser, an expression that fit her moniker.

image

“I looked it up, Ohiti that is... I must say it fist an agent of the PSIA rather well both that no one can ever fully trust me, and I can never fully trust anyone...”

image

“But then being what I am you quickly learn friends are things other people have and you never can.”

She flagged down a waitress and ordered green tea as they passed by the booth the two were sharing.

image

“That is why I enjoy our little chats, although I am afraid this will be the last one., the incident at Aukland has set things in motion...”

Image

“On that subject how are you holding up... you must want to head home...”
