i would like to add that 'lack of ID' is something you should really check the rules in your country for (organisations like XR have a lot of info)
for example in the netherlands, if you simply leave your ID at home, you mostly risk an extra fine from the police, because they will probably find out who you are. when not bringing an ID here, make sure you are not identifiable by any other possession (such as credit card, phone, public transport card, etc). there's also risk on being held in a cell for longer.
most importantly: check the guidelines of the group you are protesting with!
Good extra info, thank you! Yeah, lack of ID is not universal advice. For the US I've seen advice to bring ID but leave anything that shows your immigration status if you're an immigrant, but I can't really comment on thar myself because I'm not familiar with the law and such there.
The main thing is that you don't have to say anything to the police in the UK before you're literally in court, including who you are. If anything, it wastes their time and creates more disruption, but also protects you from undesirable stuff on your record. It's better to speak to a solicitor first.
