Desert Bandits: Chapters 1-3, Ao3

the first few chapters of my yiga-centric fic have been uploaded to ao3. it follows a gerudo woman and a yiga footsoldier forming a temporary truce to find the cure for a mysterious illness.

it's all about exploring the relationship the yiga have with the sheikah and gerudo. it's focused on my ocs (it's quite difficult to write yiga characters otherwise!) but will also feature zelda as she joins the lucky clover gazette, purah being a big sis to josha as they investigate the yiga clan's next big scheme, and master kohga going shield-surfing to escape his problems.

chapters 1-2 introduce aubri and her revenge quest against the yiga spy who tried to kill her many years ago. ch.3 has zelda and riju thwart an assassination, except this time he doesn't escape. one captured footsoldier doesn't seem like much, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. an interrogation may yield useful info on their next plot, if it doesn't blow up in their faces.

Yet another Yiga poll!

(sidenote i'll never get over how they pose like a boyband)

points for 1:

  • it balances out their advantages in combat, and i think limitations create more fun ways to think around it.
  • it would explain why, despite having such seemingly overpowered abilities, they're still lurking in the shadows, targeting lone unarmed travellers instead of attacking any settlements (even ones with very few fighters to defend themselves.)

points for 2:

  • plenty of sheikah have been shown to use runes without needing talisman. what makes their teleportation/illusions any different?
  • think of the trees!

HAH#pirate yiga though...that would be a great idea for a future wind waker inspired entry hm hm#this is slightly fic related#i'm heavily leaning towards requiring talisman. from a writing angle limitations always make things more interesting#but i would like to hear other's opinions so i know how controversial or accepted the idea is first

i designed a sheikah outfit for josha like purah and robbie. they gifted it to her, but josha added the depths elements later because no one tells the president what to do.

i wanted to keep it in line with the modern sheikah's sense of style, with some allusions to their past ninja antics, hence the bandages and assassin's creed hood. all the better to slip out of lookout landing undetected. strict parents make sneaky kids, purah!
