Everything’s so much better when it’s gay

No it’s not. I’m so tired of this “Lol gay=good” mindset. Speaking as a writer, I was writing a story that had primarily straight characters. Why, because that’s how I imagined them. That’s who they were. This damn site guilted me into thinking I had to change my characters to make the story good. So I made some gay, some trans, changed the races of a few characters and names. And you know what, it fucking sucked. Not because the characters were lgbt or poc, but because I had forced them to be something they weren’t. I became disinterested with the story and depressed, and I came to the realization that the story didn’t need to have lgbt characters or poc charactes to be a good story, because a story isn’t about their sexual preference or color, it’s about who they are inside. I changed the characters back to how I originally had them, which was primarily straight and white, and the story was reinvigorated because I wasn’t forcing it to be something it wasn’t. I was allowing the story to be what it was.

So no, gay doesn’t equal better. Gay doesn’t mean good. And having this mindset can negatively impact stories when you force your characters to be something their not.

Anyways everything’s so much better when it’s gay

“as a straight white author i can’t imagine a world that doesn’t revolve around me and diversity is just too hard to write”

“I tried to write LGBT characters and it gave me depression” I’m screaming omg

“Something their not”

A shitty writer indeed

Undecided part 5.

“I’m sorry Nat! How many times do I have to say it? Just please, please, come out of the stall.” I beg, banging on the stall door, ignoring the old lady with the strong perfume who gives me a dirty look as she exits the stall. Natalie sniffs from the other side of the faded pink wall separating us and unlocks the door.

“But you’re not sorry!” She flings her arms around wildly, getting right up in my face. “You meant every word you said out there, and you know it!” She takes a step with every word until she’s pushed me up against the sink.

“You’re right!” I retort. “But I shouldn’t have said them. I know you’re probably having heart palpations right now because 5 insanely attractive British pop sensations are sitting at a table, in the middle of Polcari’s, On route 1 in Saugus and they are here for you. This is your dream come true and I’ve turned it into a nightmare because I just can’t seem to get over some guy that is going to be gone in a matter of weeks, and who apparently didn’t seem to actually care about me at all.” I break to suck in a shuddering breath, trying to push back the tears that are fighting to spill over. “I’m sorry and I know I’ve been pissy and bitchy lately but- I loved him Nat and he didn’t even fight for me. He just let me go and moved on.”

Her face goes soft, bitch glare faltering and turning into a look of sympathy. She snatches me up and holds me close rubbing my back as I let myself go.

“Shhhh, I’m sorry too, I should have told you the truth I- I was having a fangirl attack and obviously wasn’t thinking clearly.”

“Oh god, I was a total bitch out there, they were all being so nice and I totally bitched them out. God what is wrong with me?”

“A lot of things but we won’t get into them now, it might take all night.” Natalie laughs at herself and I soon join in. It doesn’t take long until we’re in a completely uncontrollable giggling fit. After we calm down we go to the mirrors to assess the damage.

“Oh god, the one time I wear makeup and I cry and make it run.”

“Eh, it’s an easy fix. Here.” She wets a paper towel, taking my chin in her hand she wipes away the black tracks off of my face, and I’m good as new.

“Thanks. And I’m really sorry, I promise not to make anymore more of an arse of myself tonight. Now come, let’s get back out there so you can finish dinner you’re your future husbands.”

xXx

“Glad you came back!” The one with the sweet face and air of innocence- Liam I think- says. Natalie sits but I remain standing.

“Listen guys I am really sorry about my outburst. That was beyond inappropriate and rude, and gosh-yeah, well I’m going to go. Natalie enjoy your dinner, and guys thank you for agreeing to this because Natalie is your biggest fan is I just know this is making her life. Again I’m really sorry so-uh, I’ll leave you too it.”

“Grace,” Nat stands up quickly, nearly knocking over her chair in the process, Niall laughs and is soon assaulted by Liam’s harsh glare. He stops laughing. “Where the hell do you think you’re going?”

“Yeah, grace really, we’d love it if you’d stay.” Louis adds.

“No, really you guys will have more fun without me, I’m not really in the small talk mood. Just call me when you’re done Nat and I’ll come and pick you up.” I nod and turn before they can try to stop me. I make it to my car without any trouble. I start her up and am about to hightail it out of there when the passenger door opens and Louis slips in. “You know you’re breaking and entering right?” I huffed.

He looks around him as if he’s searching for something. “I don’t see anything broken, do you?”

“Well you’re… entering. Just- never mind; what do you want?”

“Natalie is quite upset.” I sigh and hit my head against my steering wheel a few times.

“God I can’t please anyone.”

“Come on!” He punches me lightly on the shoulder. “She wants to be with her best friend, she wouldn’t have invited if she didn’t want you to be in there. You think she really wants to share us?” My hand itches to smack that cocky grin right off of his stupidly gorgeous face. Instead it turns the key to shut off my car. And then once out of the car Louis snatches it up. At first I’m taken a back; I haven’t held anyone but Ben’s hand in so long, and Louis is so different, think and smooth. Ben’s were calloused from years of yard work to save money for L.A. Big calloused football players’ hands.

“Do you always hold near strangers hands in England?”

He winks his voice flirty when he replies, “Only if they’re fit.”

I stare at Natalie with a look on my face that I know can’t be pretty.

“Well I’m gonna….ummm go inside now because they’re probably wondering where we are…” Natalie says nervously as she opens her car door and backs out slowly.

“I.am.going.to.kill.you.” I reply as I pull my keys out of the ignition and get out too. No use being a bitch and not even showing up. I’m not that rude.

As we walk up to the door I yank on Natalie’s hair, smirk and open the door.

“Welcome ladies!” says an overly nice hostess,” how many?”

“umm,” Natalie mutters searching the room,” ahh! We’re with them actually…” she says pointing to 5 of some of the most beautiful creatures I’ve ever seen…I mean ugly. Just very well dressed.

“Really? You’re with them? Sorry sweetie by I’ve already had 3 sets of girls pull that one on me and I’m not about to let you two get away with it.”

Suddenly one of the boys looked up and saw Natalie and smiled. He stood up and walked towards us slowly. He had a mop of curly hair on top of his head, and the most beautiful green eyes.

“Oi! Natalie! Over here love! It’s me Harry!” he hollered louder than necessary.

He gave the hostess and evil look and a nod and lead us towards the table.

As we walked it seemed like I became practically invisible to Natalie. Maybe this “Harry” character was the one she liked best. Well I can understand why. Look at those curls. And that dimply smile, woowee! Who turned off the air conditioning? Finally we got to the table and they all stood up. Oh the gentlemanly act huh? I bet that’s how they try to trick all their “dates” into their man cave. Whatever I’ll play along. But I’m not gonna act like I like them.

Natalie naturally chose to sit next to Harry, so the only other seat open was next to the one with major sex hair, a stripped shirt, and a very childish-but cute-smile. He sweetly pulled the seat out for me to sit down, and then pushed it back in.

“Thanks,” I say rather plainly as I set my purse down in my lap.

“Don’t mention it love. I’m Louis by the way. You must be Grace! Natalie went on about you for quite a while. She said that you loved us more than she did!" he said with a smirk. Oh I wish I had killed her in the parking lot.

I didn't know how to remark to that comment. I could lie and play along OR I could be a bitch.

"Actually I think you suck," I chose the latter.

"Excuse me?" Louis stammered, obviously offended.

"D-d-did I stutter? I said that you suck. I do not enjoy your music. Natalie made me into something I'm not. I'm not a "directioner". In fact I cannot stand them. Even Natalie get's on my nerves sometimes. But would you rather me lie, and you get to know me as someone I'm not? Or know the truth right away? I'm sorry for coming off rude, but that's the way that it has to be."

I look around me and everyone at the table was watching me. I was mortified. But that didn't compare to the look of embarrassment and rage that painted Natalie's face.

"Excuse me," she muttered, and scampered off to the bathroom.

I instantly felt guilty, as the awkwardness between the remaining 6 of us at the table grew. She was really just trying to help me get over Ben, and what did I do? I ruined it! I needed to go apologize.

"Um..I have to go...uh", I didn't know what to say as I stood up.

"We know. Apologize." The Irish one-Niall-said," we'll be here when you get back."

"Thanks. I am really sorry Louis."

I just hoped I got to the bathroom in time.
