Fat and thin people with kidney failure experience similar benefits to health and longevity when they receive a live donor kidney transplant.Β
Yet fat patients are routinely denied kidney transplants until they lose weight, a delay that can increase the risk of serious complications like graft loss by as much as 68%.Β
βItβs not fat phobia! Fat people have higher rates of complications from surgery!! Doctors are just being prudent!β
People with diabetes and hepatitis C are not routinely denied kidney transplants, even though their conditions dramatically increase the risk of complication and death.
Also, when they are on dialysis, fat people have a survival advantage over thin people. Does this mean we should deny thin people dialysis until they can gain weight? Wouldnβt that be prudent?
βIf you give a fat person a kidney, youβre throwing away an organ that could save someoneβs life!βΒ
Providing kidney transplants to fat people saves lives. Fat people who receive a kidney transplant experience a 48 - 66% reduction in the risk of death in the year following the transplant, compared to fat people who do not receive a transplant.
βFat people have higher rates of complications sweaty, thatβs why they are denied transplants <3β³
Fat people have an approximately 20% to 40% greater risk of death in the eight years following a kidney transplant compared to thin people (although we cannot know if that increased risk was caused by a delay in treatment,Β weight regain post transplantationΒ among patients required to lose weight, or another confounding factor).Β But that risk is far outweighed by the survival benefits of transplantation, leading researchers to conclude thatΒ βobesity should not be a contraindication for transplantation.βΒ Β
But honestly, this entire conversation is despicable. Inhuman. Soulless. People are actually conducting research to determine whether fat people should be offered life-saving medical care. Our world hates fat people so much, that this question seems reasonable to ask.

βMy ending for Frankie and Johnny almost didnβt survive because of notes from Paramount. I ended the picture with a montage of shots showing the main characters in bed, some with loves, some alone. The studio made noise about a shot of Frankieβs two gay neighbours, Tim and Bobby (played by Nathan Lane and Sean OβBryan). In the scene I showed the two men simply holding each other, and then panned down to their dog at the end of the bed.
βCan you cute the scene with the two homosexuals?β a Paramount executive asked. βIt might offend some people.β
βNo,β I said. The men were an important part of the film.
ββWellβ¦hmmmmβ¦can you cut from the two gay guys to the cuddly doggie a little faster?β
βNo,β I said.
Trying to hide homosexuality behind the face of a cute puppy was a battle I had to win. I did.β

I agree. Thank goodness no human beings were hurt.
Interviewer: Oh my goodness, this is a real relationship. Itβs an intergalactic bond filled with superpowers.
I have nothing to prove to you.
I FUCKING snorted outloud. I feel personally called out.
