A drabble featuring Morrigan Elbio, a barghest- my monstrous character for The Grimsby Project. The Grimsby Pronect is a MOTW campaign run by a good friend. Morrigan spends time in Seattle learning to control his barghest instincts before arriving in Grimsby.

“That’s it, Mor, just push the instincts back. The shift will follow. Focus on my voice through the pain.”

Erica Jett watches proudly as the large, ragged black dog morphs in front of her, fur shedding to reveal the familiar, pale human form.

Panting, Morrigan topples forward onto scraped knees, face twisted in agony as his bones snap and mend themselves into place for what seemed like the one hundredth time that day.

“This is never going to get easier.” He groans.

“It’s gonna suck.” Jett flicks her cigarette’s ash in the ground, “But at least we get to see your pretty face now, instead of the beast.”

Morrigan grins, turning from her to pull his shirt back over his shoulders.

He freezes when he feels hands on his skin, fabric bunched in a tangle around his neck. The cigarette rolls on the cement, still burning.

“Don’t.” Erica croons, sliding her hands down his spine.

Morrigan’s muscles tense, pushing back a wave of nausea. He steps away from her touch, spinning to face her as he yanks his shirt down.

“What are you doing?” He snaps.

“Trying to enjoy this form,” She sighs, pressing her hands to his chest, pressing him to the brick wall of the bunker. “Come on, aren’t you tired of being a virgin?”

Morrigan’s eyebrows knit as he recoils, “It’s not like that, Jett. We’re just friends.”

She huffs as she runs her hands down, looping her fingers in the waistband of his pants.

“Just pretend I’m somebody else.” Her voice is low, teasing as she leans forward to kiss him. He blanches as he dodges her, a sinking, sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach.

It’s then he shoves her, his nails forming into claws as his anger rises, leaving bloody pinpricks on her chest.

“I said, back OFF, Jett.”

She growls at him, baring her fangs, threatening him.

“You owe me.” She yells as he turns his back to her, brushing off her threat, “Without me, you’d still be an animal.”

Morrigan scoffs, picking his backpack up from the floor.

“I don’t owe you a fucking thing. I was never an animal, Jett, but you- you are.”

He stalks down the dim-lit hall, his footfalls heavy as rage bubbles in him.

“They would have killed you! I prevented it!” She calls after him, “Without my protection, you’ll be dead by morning!”

“Yeah? Fuck off.” He laughs, the sound mocking, “Good thing none of you will ever see me again.”

He’s long out of her sight, slipping into the abandoned sewers when he pulls out a ragged map. A place to start over, somewhere quieter than the chaos of the city, far away from the mess he’d been tangled in. He stares at the faded, intersecting lines on the paper, chewing slowly on the pen cap between his teeth.

He circles a place called Grimsby in red ink.
