Wow Dracula was a HUGE disappointment. I stopped the series halfway through (I hardly ever do that) because I realized how deeply bored I was. What a shame...

It’s that time again - when I look back at the Goode year and pick some highlights. It’s a long one this year so you had better pour yourself a glass of something and have a goode sit down…..
January - What goode start to the year - as a Brit I’d seen A Discovery of Witches way back in September 2018 but it was finally shown in North America in January. Those trim fit shirts worked their magic (as did Matthew’s fine portrayal of Matthew Clairmont - but let’s face it - the shirts really helped) and suddenly there were all these lovely people discovering the Goodeness for the first time.
A Discovery of Witches was nominated for a National Television Award AND we finally got some confirmation that the rumours about Matthew being in the third Kingsman movie were actually, really, truly TRUE!
February - Matthew appeared as a guest sitter on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year. He didn’t quite get the hang of being a sitter - either he was dropping off to sleep or fidgeting around and making jokes!
Amazing that the artists managed to get any likeness at all - but this was the winning portrait -
March - What happened in March??? Nothing Goode - that’s for sure. Or did I miss something?
April - Matthew was 41! Gif is @shaymagoode‘s
May - special mention of @tea-and-umbrellas for predicting the casting of Philippe in ADOW - a full 6 months before it was confirmed (they clearly have powers). So we can look forward to more of this on set -
We also got to see the Downton Abbey movie poster at last -
June - we had our first proper glimpse of a cropped haired Matthew in the Official Secrets trailer -
Filming for Season 2 of Discovery of Witches started in June and the promo pics for Downton Abbey the movie appeared with Matthew looking particularly gooooode…
In July we saw Matthew in the Royal Box again at Wimbledon with Sophie and chattering away to Richard E Grant and Ruth Wilson (and her mum!) -
Deborah Harkness gave us the first teasing glimpse of Matthew on the ADOW set ….
Maybe the second best thing [the ‘first’ best thing is coming later….] for me all year were the pictures of Matthew filming Season 3 of The Wine Show with James Purefoy -

Oh bless him - clearly Sophie was not available to dress him that day and things went horribly wrong.
In August we had THE BEST THING - coz some lucky fans, including my mum, got to stroke the material for Matthew’s new ADOW costume at All Souls Con and BLESS THE ADOW COSTUME DEPARTMENT FOR THINKING IT WAS A GOODE IDEA TO DRESS HIM IN LEATHER/SUEDE - we bow to you in thanks.
Frankly that took over most of August until September brought us Matthew in The Pink! Hiring Matthew to promote your brand earned you a lot of fans Thomas Pink!
But for this scene alone you need the ‘Goode Award’ of the Year Mr Pink coz I nearly died laughing seeing Matthew in his undercrackers and West Ham football socks…
The Downton Movie was released and Matthew was true to his word about ‘popping in at the end’ - he did just that. But it was still thrill to see him jumping out of a car in unsupportive underwear again on the big screen.
September was a VERY Goode month coz we also got the first glimpse of those leather/suede trousers stretched across this wondrous Goode thighs -
… also some more Downton movie BTS of Matthew looking VERY worried about trying to remember his dance moves -
September kept of giving us the Goode stuff with some fabulous fan photos of Matthew at St Andrews for the Dunhill golf. This official photo of Matthew with his mad hair takes some beating tho’ - oh be still my beating heart…..
October brought us Matthew in tartan trousers. Oh - in The King’s Man trailer I mean. We know it was you mate - we’d recognise that manic laugh anywhere! You are obviously being kept in the shadows at the moment so we’re all thinking - BADDIE! Woohoo! Thanks to @di-elle for getting the screenshots -
Us Brits finally got to see Official Secrets on the big screen. Really Goode movie despite their limited use of Matthew!
We should also be thankful for an indiscreet ADOW actor who posted some cheeky BTS shots that apparently we shouldn’t have seen….
Is that a wedding I see before me?
Strangely there was quite a bit of Matthew in November - for the sole reason that he was NOT in something. Poor Ben Daniels in The Crown had to be reminded in every article about him that he was not Matthew Goode! We also got this little gem of a pic of Matthew in braces from the ADOW set from the Sky competition winners . Bless you for this running_chelle! Now whenever we see Matthew on screen in Season 2 we will all be thinking …. we know what you are wearing under that jacket…..
December - Nothing new in the Goode world so we all drank heavily.

Background to this rant:
Today someone asked Deb Harkness on Twitter if Gallowglass would end up with Becca. She said no (somewhat forcefully), and has liked/commented on theories calling this gross and “too much like Twilight”.
I don’t disagree that it’s creepy, and of course everyone’s allowed their opinion.
But.
It’s no secret that I love A Discovery of Witches the show and am pretty meh on the books. Either way, this is worth saying:
Both are pretty clearly influenced by Twilight. The show less so, but between the secret Italian government, the deer hunting, the no-sex-before-marriage, the vampire-siring-as-parenting, the magical impossible babies and a few other key details, the books and show owe a lot to a series that was ridiculed and derided as being “girly nonsense.”
I wasn’t a Twilight fan, but I’m also not comfortable with the author and her fans pretending that ADoW has nothing in common with a series that it clearly, clearly was inspired by.
Especially not when these tweets exist:

is anyone else’s favourite part of harry potter the daily grind of hogwarts life? when i’m watching the movies i always think they’re missing something and i just realised it’s the part of the book where they’re like chilling in the common room doing homework and all the birthday & christmas presents they get each other every book and dinners in the great hall and stuff
