Wind Breaker and Trauma

Hey, you should go watch Wind Breaker right the fuck now because I have not seen a slice-of-life anime that has done such a good job depicting what it is like to live and deal with ongoing trauma in such a beautiful way. Just for context:

Our main character naturally has two different eye colors and that is actually his natural hair. His parents constantly told him to dye his hair to make him look like a "normal person" and everyone he ever met judged him based solely on his hair and eye color. While this kind of look stands out in anime, the story actually does a great job of weaponizing his differences to make him a piraha.

Because he was a young impressionable boy, he started fighting because he didn't know how to deal with his ongoing and continuous verbal and emotional abuse from just about everyone he had ever met. Sakura spends his entire life literally just fighting everyone he meets and he values strength of a person above all else because he considers that the only trait worth noting in a person. This is deeply rooted in his inability to form any kind of positive human connections with everyone and he genuinely doesn't trust or bond with anyone he meets.

So he heads to an infamous high school that is known for its fighting and decides that he wants to be the top dog there because he can only value his own self-worth through the use of violence. But when he gets there, he finds out that the town is actually protected by the kids of the school- the leader of the school has turned the entire neighborhood around and the people love them, they are revered as heroes and protect the citizens. Without even knowing that, he ends up protecting a woman who is getting harassed by a group of guys and even gets stabbed defending her. When she shows that she is grateful and actually provides him with a meal- he is genuinely confused. He doesn't understand why she isn't shunning him like everyone he has ever known. And it turns out the entire town is like this, they think that he is a good kid and he helps out the neighborhood but he has such deep seeded trust issues that he is confused by actual kindess.

He even meets other kids that he keeps at arms length because he is so certain based off of the abuse that he has suffered his entire life applies to everyone he meets. Which is ironic and the show calls him out for this train of thought as being exactly the kind of thinking that the people who mistreated him had.

It so well done and his issues don't just go away overnight because he suddenly is shown kindness- he is still suffering from his trauma and has issues with trust and actually forming real genuine friendships with people, which I really like because the anime isn't pretending that his deep trauma is going to be magically cured because he forms a few relationships with people. The real story is about his fight to the be the best- but what does that mean exactly? What does he actually want? The show does a fantastic job of exploring that. Please watch it, it is so good

The Best Kind of Plot Twist:

When you spend two-thirds of a movie, tv show, or a book thinking that you have all of the information and are making progress with no real issues and then the plot twist comes in the third act and re-contextualizes everything you just witnessed and now you have to go backwards and restart everything over in your mind to understand everything you just witnessed because everything up until that point.

I ran an Aliens rpg years back. But the players didn't KNOW it was an Aliens game until halfway through the first session.

They thought it was a sci-fi game but they also thought the monsters were going to be zombies.

Over a period of 2 hours they then proceeded to make EVERY Aliens movie cliche "mistake" known to man. Because at the time they all made sense.

The characters in a story don't know they're in a story or what kind of story it is.

They might think their in a romcom instead of a slasher movie. And if you're not in a slasher movie, why the fuck would you search through every closet in your house just because a cup mysteriously fell off a table in the dining room?

There is a manwha called "I Thought I was in a Romance Fantasy but it was a Horror" wherein the main character and even the audience fully believes that she is in a romantic fantasy and she chalks up the weird things going on around her as "bad writing" and is so focused on getting her happy ending with the ML that she even accidentally pisses off the god of the universe because she is not afraid of him at all and thinks that he's a dragon who is just mad that she is hanging out in his house.

Luffy and Food

I think people are not quite getting the connection of food and friendship that is the core of Luffy's values. Everyone just assumes that because he was fed, Luffy is ready to just run off and do something for someone and while that may be true, it is the act of giving him food that is the reason why Luffy is willing to befriend anyone.

Luffy and most people equate food with life- you cannot survive without food or water, so it is an essential to survival. Giving someone you do not know a meal when they are in need is a very self-less act. Yes there is basic hospitality, but sharing a meal with someone you do not know is an extremely kind thing to do. Anyone who is willing to share their meal with someone in need is not doing it to gain anything. It's a pure act that cannot be overlooked.

Sure, some people do charity to make themselves look better, but Luffy is excellent at spotting fakes, so he understands true charity and kindness when he sees it. To share a meal with a stranger, that is an act that is bigger than anything you could do for someone. It's easy to say that you would help someone out if they were in need, but its another thing to actually do that.

When Luffy talks about what a hero is, he considers it a truly heroic act to share your meal with someone, and he admires anyone who does that, even though he doesn't consider himself a hero and is actually pretty selfish. That is why he feels such a compulsion to help people who he deems worthy of it because they are willing to help others.

Darcy and Elizabeth

Pride and Prejudice makes a thousand times more sense when you realize that the dynamics between these two and their positions in life are not only dictated by money but also by where they are in the family. Darcy is the eldest child and the head of his household, he is in charge of the finaces and has a natural responsibility towards his baby sister. He is the mom friend of his friend group and all he wants to do is protect people and do what he thinks is best for everyone. A total introvert, he is also very suspicious of anyone who wants something from him because of his status.

Elizabeth is the second oldest daughter- she has no such burden. She is her father's favorite and while her mother has expectations for her to get married one day, she has the freedom of not having to carry her family on her shoulders like Jane does. Jane is the eldest child and has to be the Good One- Elizabeth gets to enjoy the freedom of doing whatever she wants. Of course she is still a woman in this time period and getting married is vital, but she doesn't worry about it her every waking minute because she doesn't have to.

She's gets to be the party girl, she gets to go out and do whatever she wants and has the freedom to do whatever she wants because her father adores her and her mother has no actual control over the family. She is a loud extrovert who thinks that everyone should be like her and doesn't understand how to be cautious with her words. The only time she ever feels embarrassed is when her family is acting wild at the Netherfield Ball and that's only because her mother directly insults Mr. Darcy right to his face.

So when Darcy suddenly out of nowhere (for Elizabeth doesn't even begin to pick up on the signs that he's into her) tells Elizabeth that he is in love with her and wants to get married, she is surprised because he's never even once said a good thing to her face. But Darcy has never had the luxury of being open with his feelings. He is getting attacked almost instantly for giving Elizabeth a little bit of eye contact within his own friend group. He is the oldest son of a massive estate who has to take care of everyone and do everything- he doesn't have the ability to run around as he pleases like Elizabeth does and his personality isn't the kind that opens up easily, so of course he knows that he's in love with her, but she doesn't. And even in the midst of their fight after he insults her family and she calls his basically heartless, they both have to sit and reevaluate each other's perspectives. That is why the book is so timeless is because Elizabeth and Darcy both realize that they have completely misunderstood each other's characters completely and have to basically start over.

Mutant Mayhem:

The boys actually acting like dumbass teenagers? Master Splinter feels more like a father, not just their caretaker, and the tragedy of Superfly just wanting to make a safe home for his family like Master Splinter did but because his first real memory was watching his father be murdered so he only knows pain and violence and uses that as his motivation- just- chef's kiss.

Also the lesson that doing the right thing is more complicated than you think because doing it for the right reasons is just as important. Being a hero isn't about being accepted, it's about helping people even when you may never be accepted.

The Flash (2023) Spoilers:

I have a lot of thoughts about this movie (not interested in getting into Erza Miller, you can decide on your own about them.) but I really gotta say I loved this movie for many reasons: the biggest being that the entire theme of the movie is that the experiences that we endure, good or bad, shape our world view in dramatic ways and make us the heroes or villains that we eventually become.

Justice League!Barry experiences the traumatic death of his mother in a different way than it’s usually- in most versions of the Flash his mother is still murdered but he is either with his father or not there, but the absolute devastation that Barry was literally just lying on the floor up in his room working on his homework when his mother was murdered and he didn’t even hear anything? That really changes his sense of powerlessness in her death.

JL!Barry is shaped by this event- his father being blamed for his mother’s death, going to prison, Barry’s constant fight for the truth through his work at Central City’s crime lab, even if he is not appreciated there. This sets Barry down his path to being a hero because he endures that experience for several years and is very verbal in his pursuit of justice. He even says that he doesn’t have grand dreams about catching his mother’s killer, he just wants to get his father out of prison for it- he doesn’t care why or who did it- he just wants his family back.

Alt!Barry does not have that trauma. That is the whole reason why he is not worthy of his powers. We laugh at the Flash because he’s silly and fun and the heart of the Justice League (he even comments that he feels like he’s a glorified janitor) but his powers are so god-like that we have seen what happens when someone way more evil has access to them. JL!Barry has had the experience of learning his powers, understanding the limits and the conditions and the dangers of them- his experiences have shaped him into the hero that he is.

When they are in Russia and they realize that they haven’t found Superman, Barry doesn’t hesitate to save Kara anyway, even without his powers, because he is a hero- he has always been a hero. Alt!Barry doesn’t know what to do- he doesn’t make the heroic choice without thinking. He gets upset when he gets shot (even though he has super healing so he’ll be fine in like a few seconds) and gets angry at JL!Barry for not explaining that they can be hurt.

JL!Barry’s reply is actually really important in highlighting the huge difference between them “How come you didn’t tell me we could be shot!?” -”Why would you assume we couldn’t?” This is the big tell that their life experiences are so vastly different because Alt!Barry thought with his super powers he was invincible, he was a walking god- but that is not the reality. After learning that JL!Barry had messed with the timeline to save his mother’s life- thus creating the universe they were in that will inevitably be destroyed because of his interference, Alt!Barry just assumes that he can fix everything to.

“Sometimes there is no solution. You have to left go.” Echoing his mother’s words to Alt!Barry when he eventually realizes that by changing everything he is just dooming a universe by his own actions and he needs to make it right. Evil!Barry is just an older version of Alt!Barry that is obsessed with trying to be a hero and “fix everything” because of what JL!Barry told him- everything that takes place is all a direct result of JL!Barry’s own actions because he was trying to give his own life experience and knowledge to someone who had never experienced what he had gone through.

Alt!Barry hadn’t known what it was like to be helpless, powerless- JL!Barry had watched his mother die, he had felt that huge sense of responsibility towards the greater good- JL!Barry understands his limits, he regrets his choices as hero- he even laments that he felt powerless in helping against Zod even though he was able to save one child in the chaos, he knows that he wasn’t ready to be a hero yet and felt like a failure. Alt!Barry finally coming to terms with this realization when he finally sees what he will become if he doesn’t stop and then saving JL!Barry by sacrificing himself was a really difficult moment- he had finally realized that he could be a hero if he just stopped trying to fix everything and let everything happen the way it should.

I also like the other themes of the movie: the existence of fate, the metaphor of time being spaghetti was funny, that small moments with the people we love are vastly more important than anything and we should cherish them, and I also liked how they made fun of and broke down the Justice League when JL!Barry was tryin to find the members (Aquaman being a magic mermaid!!) Also my favorite joke that I feel was really underappreciated was when Alt!Barry called Kara “solar powered” and that he was trying to get into solar energy (best joke and no one in my movie theatre laughed but me lolol).

"What is Yavin 13?"

"A moon, desolate. A long time ago it was wiped out and there isn't much left on it."

"Why are we going there?"

"I am going to get K-2 to send word to Melshi- he's a good friend and he will get us the numbers we need. We'll meet up on Yavin 13 and we'll leave from there to Scarif."

She looked at her reflection in the glass.

She had been so sure that he was going to abandon her. She had been so certain that the last thing she was ever going to see was his back to her.

"What's wrong?" he dared to ask. There was a laundry list a mile long but she just shook her head.

"I'm not used to people sticking around when things go bad."

He smiled at her a little bit, something almost mischievous in his eyes when he looked at her.

"Welcome Home."

---

They made it to Yavin 13 and the place really was desolate. They got out of the cramped cruiser and waited for the others to arrive. K-2 had relayed the message to Melshi and they were going to commandeer the Imperial ship that Bodhi had stolen from the Rebels to sneak onto the base on Scarif.

The plan was a rather simple one. With Bodhi's help, they would be able to get through the shield gate, sneak onto the base, cause a distraction, probably involving some explosions- and then they would steal the plans, get off world- make it home to Yavin IV before anyone realized what was going on.

"You think that these men will go into this with us?" she asked, pacing back and forth. They had been waiting for K-2 to send them a message that they had made it off Yavin IV but they were still waiting.

"These men will do anything for the Rebellion- they will volunteer to take on such an important mission," he said, having a good idea already of who Melshi was going to ask. After a long silence she turned and looked at Cassian.

"Why are you doing this? Why are you helping me now?"

She didn't want it to be because of guilt for her father. She would rather just go on the mission alone if that was his purpose. She wanted it to be for something else. Anything else. Because like her many battles before her, they were staring down another enemy that was ready to kill them without hesitation. She had managed to keep her head down for too long and now she was going to have to fight with her head held high. That was the perfect place for a blaster.

But Cassian had no steak in this. She had to do this because her father knew it was vital that the Death Star be destroyed and gave her the mission. She was going to complete it for him. But what about Cassian? He couldn't possibly think that this was worth potentially his life? He was a spy- he should be back at the Rebel Base, getting his next mission.

Cassian looked at Jyn after she asked him that question and thought about it for a long pause before turning to face her fully.

"I've done terrible things in the name of the Rebellion. Horrible things... things that I can't... I can't even begin to describe to you."

She nodded, understanding him. When she was able to sleep, the men and women she had killed were at the forefront of her dreams. Their screams of agony, the terror in their eyes when a child stood over them with a blaster in her hand. She had been a killer for as long as she could remember, if anyone understood- it was Jyn.

"The Rebellion is everything to me now. If I don't do this- what was this all for?" He thought about the people he had met through this whole experience. Nemik, Skene, Val. He had seen the fire in their eyes and the willingness to fight. He couldn't help but even think of Bix, so destroyed by what had happened to her. This was a cause worth dying for, he was sure of it but if the Alliance didn't stop the Death Star now- they were all doomed.

"I understand... thank you... for coming with me."

She had always felt completely alone- even when she was with her parents or Saw- but with Cassian, she felt like everything was going to be okay, no matter what happened. Now they would soon be on their way to Scarif and they would get the Death Star plans, no matter what. She was determined and there was nothing in this entire universe that would stop Jyn Erso from getting what she wanted.

A/N: I am so sorry this is finally getting finished- I really wanted to open the door for them to go to Scarif and finish the end of Rogue One. Thank you so much for the prompt, I really have not written a single word in 4 years and this story really opened up my creativity. I am so thankful for all of the views. Thank you for reading!!

Target Eadu

Cassian had found himself once more in quite the situation. Right now there was a blaster to his head by an unknow assailant, Jyn was holding their only ticket off world at gun point and they were only an hour from dawn on this miserable planet, they didn't have time to argue.

Ka Sing looked terrified and he now understood what was going on. Her handler hadn't been on planet for almost six months, the lab in the ridge had suddenly blown up two nights earlier and two rebels suddenly showed up on her doorstep. Ka Sing must have taken it as a sign that she needed to get out. But she forgot one crucial detail in her plan- she had a star cruiser which could barely fit one person at a time- there was no way they were going to be able to get four people aboard, no matter what kind of changes she could have made.

That meant that now they had a serious math problem. Then why bring them along? Why drag them out into the woods? To kill them here? She could easily have just taken off with Ima and no one would know. Just because she didn't know the location of the Alliance Base didn't mean that she needed to go there.

What would she even tell them? She abandoned Eadu after the attack that had no effect on her intelligence mission?

Cassian didn't understand the play here.

"Why did you bring them out here, Ka Sing!" Ima the Twi'lek demanded, looking at her.

"We can't get off world without them! Don't shoot them!"

What did that mean? Was there a checkpoint they didn't know about? Then he remembered. He had mentioned that he had a droid that he could contact. What if she needed something from K-2?

"The cruiser- you said you bought it off a junker- there's not navigation system, is there?"

That was how she was able to buy it without anyone noticing. He must have sold it to her under the table without the navigation system- making it far cheaper. Stealing a lot of things from the lab or cargo ships to fix it up would be easy- but stealing an Imperial navigation system was a very complicated thing. He had managed to do it a few times in his younger days but that was because he was more than willing to take the risk. But he doubted someone who had been so cautious her entire life like Ka Sing was ready to make such a high risk for such a low reward.

"What?" Jyn asked, looking at Ka Sing. "You don't know how to get off of the planet?!"

"I can get us out of the system," she insisted. She must have tested the cruiser out to make sure, but if she was branded, she would have to go much further than just the next moon. "But I want to join the Rebellion. We both do. We want to get off of this planet and get back to work!"

"You're a spy, you were already working."

"After your little Alliance stunt the other night, things are getting difficult," Ima said, "That cargo pilot has been all anyone at the base has been talking about. Now they are locking down everyone to keep people from defecting," Ima said, gritting her teeth at Jyn.

"I can see that, considering you're holding a gun to my head," he said, smiling a little.

"You want to go to the Rebel Base?" Jyn asked, looking at Ka Sing and she nodded, looking desperate. Desperate people were the worst kinds. They made serious mistakes.

"Why?" Cassian had to ask.

"We still want to fight! We still want to be a part of the Rebellion!" Ka Sing insisted, but he wasn't so sure that her partner was on board. "If we can get off world and join the Rebels, we can still be useful!"

Jyn looked at Cassian. This was not a good idea. They were at an impass. Ka Sing and Ima had a ship, but no navigation. Cassian had access to K-2, but no ship. The ship was clearly not going to fit the four of them. They needed a new plan. She should have shot Ka Sing the moment Cassian came out of that bathhouse with her.

"Look-" Cassian said in a firm voice. "We all want off this planet- and the only way to do that is to get to a ship that can take us all."

He remembered the shuttle depot that Bodhi had mentioned. It was going to be heavily guarded after the bombing at the lab, but with a pilot like Ima on their side, getting a ship would be easier than before. He looked at Ka Sing.

"We are going to steal one from the Imperials and get to the Rebel Base- together."

----

The plan was simple enough. Ima took a lot more convincing then the other two, but Cassian had a pretty good idea. He and Ima would go together to the shuttle depot. She had a speeder bike that she had managed to sneak off base on. It was big enough for two people so they could go together, steal a ship and then head back.

Ima was not sure of the plan at first because he wanted Jyn to stay with Ka Sing. He put it this way- no one could betray anyone that way. Jyn knew the location of the base if something happened to Cassian and could kill Ka Sing and steal her star cruiser. And Cassian could kill Ima and risk Jyn's life with Ka Sing- urging Ima to give her blaster to Ka Sing so that they could go alone unarmed. This was a pretty good way to make sure all sides stayed calm.

"This is a bad plan," Jyn said as he was getting ready to make the long trek up a hill to the hidden speeder bike.

"We don't have time for arguing," he said, looking at her. The longer it took them to get back to Yavin IV, the longer it was until they could go to Scarif. He knew that was what Jyn wanted. She was playing fast and loose with her trigger finger to answer all of the questions herself. But he honestly was surprised she hadn't sacrificed him just yet to Ima's gun for the chance to get that star cruiser and be off herself. He wouldn't have blamed her.

They turned and Ima was ready to go, Ka Sing clinging to her.

"Please be careful," she said and Ka Sing looked annoyed.

"You should be more careful," Ima replied and turned, heading up the hill, Cassian following behind. He couldn't help but look over his shoulder at Jyn one more time before disappearing into the dark woods, wanting to memorize the look on her face in case he never saw her again. Much to his surprise- she looked incredibly worried and lost to see him go.

----

The speeder bike wasn't hidden too far away, and they made it just as dawn broke. The clouds opened a little to let some light in, the first time he had seen sunlight in days on Eadu. Ima led the way, but it was clear that she didn't trust him because she kept a good distance between them. Cassian saw no purpose in fighting with her, that would be counter productive. He had a much better plan in mind.

He followed her up to the bike and she revealed it hidden near a large gathering of trees. As she got the bike out and prepared to get on it, Cassian stepped up behind her. It was not gentlemanly to shook an unarmed woman, but it wasn't the worst thing he had ever done. He didn't even say a word when he pulled out the blaster and shot her in the back, watching her fall to the ground, dead before she hit the grass.

Ima had been easier to kill than he had thought. She had really let her guard down too much because she believed he was unarmed. He had been smart about lifting Jyn's blaster without her looking. He knew that if it came down to it, all she needed to take out Ka Sing was her nightstick. He had made a big show of the blasters to get the women to be at ease. Amateur hour over here. He looked down at the body, checking for things and he found a data disk. His hunch was correct. This woman was a spy. Not a Rebel spy, an Imperial one. Probably with the IBS, they were really resourceful for their placement of spies.

She probably was just reporting on the base and the lab when she met Ka Sing. Doesn't take much for a spy to recognize another spy. Ka Sing either knew the truth and was hiding it really well, or she was too naïve to know the truth. Either option was bad. That meant that Jyn was in real danger now. Ima had gone along with this place because it was the chance to score big by finding out where the Alliance was currently stationed. That was powerful intel that could lead to a lot of problems with Mon Mothma and the others. He looked at the speeder and then turned back. Better to return on foot, they would be expecting him to come back in a ship or on a bike. The element of surprise was always better than expectations.

He made his way down the hill as the clouds started forming again, pouring down rain and making his path difficult. He finally reached where he had left Jyn and Ka Sing, but found no one in the area. He looked around and saw the Rebel symbol carved in a tree. He looked at it and saw that it was at an angle, pointing west. The direction of the cruiser. Ka Sing could have gotten impatient and made Jyn move to the cruiser. He needed to be careful. This could be a trap. Well, it probably was. He needed to assume that Ka Sing did know that Ima was with IBS or that she was in fact a double agent herself.

He moved quickly through the trees, following the path that she had described to them, should they get separated. He found the clearing where the cruiser was hidden behind a large bolder that was overgrown. The rain was really pouring down and he saw that the lights were on inside of the cruiser. He did not see anyone, but he knew that someone was here, probably watching the cruiser. He needed to draw them out but he had to be careful, in case it was an ambush. He decided that he should just simply come out, looking around as if he were lost. That would draw some kind of response. He ducked down and moved quickly through the opening, moving as if he was trying not to draw notice to him. He reached the cruiser and hurried behind it. No one was there but the engine was running. He looked around, wondering what was going on. Just as he was about to move again, he felt a blaster pressed against his side and he wanted to roll his eyes because this was becoming ridiculous.

"Where's your little friend?"

He let out a sigh of relief- it was Jyn. She put down the blaster and he turned to see that she had been hiding under the cruiser using the poncho as cover. She had mud on her face and looked like she had been running.

"What happened?" he asked, turning to face her.

"That spy turned on me the minute you were out of sight- she pulled the blaster on me and when I went to reach for mine- oh, what's that? Mine was missing!" she replied sarcastically, and he smiled at her.

"I knew you could handle yourself," he said, looking down to see that the blaster she was holding must have been Ka Sing's. "You took care of her?"

"She got away, but I doubt she has far she can go, this place is going to be crawling with Imperial soon, our blaster shots were pretty loud."

She looked up to see the cruiser was ready to go. They needed to get moving now. Heading back to base was critical. They moved to board the ship and Ka Sing really was a good liar because this ship was modified at all- it was a piece of junk that was being held together with tape and the Force. The droid port was completely missing and the cockpit barely fit one person, let alone two. He looked at Jyn and wondered if they were going to have to figure out something else.

"We don't have time for this."

"We're not going to both fit!" he said, trying to get into the cockpit but it was barely room for him. She did not hesitate as she got inside, pushing down on him. She'd been in tighter spaces before, and they were not going to be able to navigate anyway- they would need to get K-2 to help them.

"We can fit if we just don't move much," she insisted, though how that was possible, he didn't know. She was sitting on his legs, her knees practically wedged against the metal. This was so uncomfortable. He sighed and managed to move around her enough to start the ship up. They had little time to worry about it. They needed to get going. They lifted into the air and took off before they were spotted.

Only until they were almost to the next planet did they attempt communication with K-2. It was hard, considering that Jyn was sitting on the console and he was struggling to keep his composure.

"K-2," he said into his communicator. He waited a long moment. It had been several days since they had spoken, he might not answer right away. He looked at Jyn. She had been forced to lay across him, using her elbows against the metal dash to keep from falling against the glass. "Kay, it's Cassian. Do you read me?"

"Cassian?"

The voice seemed surprised to find that he was alive.

"Cassian is that really you?"

Jyn and Cassian took in a deep sigh of relief, they were able to make contact. "Where are you? What happened? It's been several days!" K-2 bombarded them with questions but they didn't have the time.

"Kay- Kay, we'll explain everything later, but Jyn and I are without a navigation system- we need help getting back to Yavin IV."

There was silence for a long moment and then he spoke again.

"Cassian? Jyn?" Bodhi's voice said, coming over the communicator. He sounded winded, he probably got the news that they were alive just moments earlier. "Are you two alright?"

"We're fine- we're alive. Look- we don't have a good ship- we can't make it without navigational help," Cassian explained again, looking at Jyn who was getting really annoyed now.

"I understand. But Cassian, things are not good here, they didn't believe us."

"Believe you?"

"They think that we stole the ship and left you behind. They took Churrit and Baze to the brigg," he said, sounding worried. "They only let me go because they think that I am useless."

Jyn looked at Cassian.

"You were right. What are we going to do?!"

He looked at the console. They had little time to worry about the future right now- Jyn was not going to stop until they found the Death Star plans and he had known that it was her top priority. So he looked at the communicator.

"Bodhi, get us to Yavin 13," he said and Jyn looked at him. She mouthed "What's that?" and he nodded his head in a way to let her know he knew what he was doing.

"Okay, why there?"

"When we land, I'll send K-2 instructions. We don't have time to waste. We need to get to Scarif!"

Cassian's voice must have gotten Bodhi going because he quickly started to type into a navigator and quickly guided them where they were going. Cassian couldn't risk going back to the Rebel Base, they would have too many questions and he didn't have the time. They needed to go. He could see the fire burning in Jyn's eyes. The same fire that had been burning when she saw that message. She was not going to stop until they got those plans. This was just another small hitch in their mission. He was going to get her to Scarif, no matter what it took.

A/N: Yeah buddy- I managed to get them to fit in that tiny little cruiser! it’s uncomfortable but they fit because I said so!

Andor: A Cut Above

Look I will never stop talking about Andor and my love for Rogue One but I really gotta talk about the power that Andor has in taking the “Doomed By the Narrative” and making a whole fucking meal out of it. We know what happens in Rogue One. We Know. So they don’t have to dance around that. Instead- they put it in our faces. The main theme is the funeral march for Ferrix? The Rebel Symbol is actually the Death Star? The prisoners are literally “a tool of the Imperial War Machine”. “The Rebellion comes first” narrative piece from Cinta, the different degrees that everyone is dedicated to the cause. We don’t even need to know if these characters survive in the next season- the entire point is that the actions of any one character at any one point is a step forward- Nemik’s manifesto insists that there are people “always moving the line forward” whether they know it or not. And that’s the point. The entire show is built around the understanding that Cassian is never going to make it. He is doomed from the start. He just needs to make it to Jyn and Jyn needs to make it to Scarif and the plans need to make it to Leia and then make it to Luke and then make it to the Rebellion. It’s a long line of important steps as we watch the entire universe come together to make it happen because if any one person stops and doesn’t keep moving forward, there is no end of the Empire.
