A/N: Welcome to my Spring series! I’ve been on a writing spree lately so I’m sorta just going with the flow here so here we go again! I’ve never done this trope before but…I’m into it! So hopefully you guys will be too. It kinda the opposite from my last series so I’m a little nervous you may not like it but hopefully I’m wrong lol (Special thanks to @osterfield-holland-andcompany for the moodboard and giving me many many ideas for this series and @lauras-collection for the banner and all of the help she’s been giving. Please give them both a follow!) Please reblog/send feedback as always because I love hearing what ya’ll think! Thank you xx -N
Tom remained still as he sat in his favorite chair, trying to take in what his family had just told him. He knew this day was inevitable, he just didn’t think it would be today. He always assumed he could skirt around it somehow, especially considering the public had only really heard of him and not seen him very often. It should have been easy to get out of a stupid tradition that Tom wanted no part of.
Now here Tom was, staring at his family like they were robots after what they had just told him. Nothing mattered except their family name, and their reign. But Tom knew all these were simply just public titles. Something to make people believe they had any sort of government power but in reality, there was none. It was a silly thing to keep a line of power moving in their name.
Royal blood was a joke, and Tom knew it.
“I’m not doing it,” Tom spat back at his parents. Watching the look on his mother’s face turn from satisfied to displeased within moments. Normally, he didn’t like hurting his mother’s feelings but today felt like an exception, “Do you have any idea how ridiculous this request is? It’s 2022. People don’t need to be married by a specific age anymore,” he pointed out as he stared out the window.
Right, normal people didn’t, he thought to himself. And yes, he was in line for the throne which meant his life was very different from others. But he was far down the line and was well aware from a young age that being King wasn’t meant to be his but his brother’s. And Tom was more than okay with that. He knew since he was young it was a responsibility he didn’t want. He wanted to be as normal as possible. If only that were even possible.
