A nonbinary child was murdered recently and I’ve been reporting multiple transphobic comments misgendering them, mocking their death, and deadnaming them. But they stay up. Tumblr won’t do anything about it. But they drop everything to permanently ban a trans women.

Really shows their priorities.

I’m not seeing many people post about this and it’s very disappointing.

Nex Benedict, a 16 year old nonbinary student at Owasso high school in Oklahoma, was murdered on February 8th. They were beaten to death by 3 cisgender girls in the girls bathroom.

Nex was brutally beaten to death and was denied care. Teachers refused to call an ambulance for them.

The news is deadnaming them, describing their death as ‘unexpected’, as a ‘physical altercation’, and saying it was ‘a fight’. The news is erasing Nex’s identity and trying to erase the fact this is a targeted hate crime.

Please don’t let another trans murder be ignored.

I think my issue with the “draw blorbo holding a watermelon or Palestinian flag” trend thing is that fandom has been an extremely hostile place for Palestinians for years - obviously I think fandom is secondary to everything for me right now, but it’s weird to see these spaces that have repeatedly pushed Palestinians out suddenly take on a “pro Palestine” veneer. Spreading awareness is great but I always have to sit and wonder how genuine it actually is

Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.

That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.

which is not called the dublin arm (it was created in belfast) and which does not operate the way described by the op. in the original video i linked, you can see the man tighten and loosen the grip of the artificial hand, himself, by cranking a lever.

it's less clear how the cigarette and glass of water are grasped in the video, but presumably the hand was pre-cranked, or there was some other way of achieving the grip in those positions.

this is basically the consensus today among folks with missing arms, in particular. they're usually bulky and uncomfortable, difficult and non-intuitive to operate, and not preferred in general. they're also REALLY expensive and take forever to get used to, making it just not worth it.

there was a post going around on here (i can't find it right now, but if someone else can, please link it) about how scifi always has these bionic arms because they look cool--and because, similar to the p&k arm, it offers some variety of cool tool uses. the hammer, screw/crank, and other tool attachments are pretty cool and probably were very useful to those who were builders and had lost their arm in the war.

but it doesn't reflect the reality of prosthetic limbs, even today.

So thankfully the worst of the mania has passed. I slept for about eight hours today, but I've still got lingering remnants of the mania and hopefully, I'll get a longer sleep soon so I can fully recover. Thank you guys for your concern on the matter; I'm better now and on the road to getting back to normal (or my level of normal) soon.

We got the room until the 29th thanks to a generous donation, and both my and my mom's overdrafts were covered so we're on our way to starting 2024 off on a good foot. I also got the (last) weighted massaging heating pad from Walmart, thanks to donations, so that will be a huge help for dealing with the back pain my mother and I suffer from.

Still need to raise the money for the room through New Year's, when the hotel will probably fill up faster. We also still need food since my daughter has eaten half the cans of ravioli in one day and it's making me sick so I have no canned food to eat. And if I could get my mother a Christmas gift, she would love to get her hair cut (there's a salon by the motel and it will be about $35 to get it cut there for cut plus tip).

Is it just me or are the new tumblr users convinced there's a penalty of some kind for using this site like it's meant to be used?

reblogs have always been in short supply for artists, sadly, but it's hitting the shitposts and even the cat pictures lately. Gotta keep getting the word out that reblogs are good and keep people posting new material that will be passed around for the next 12 years

They’re used to other social media sites, where the only equivalent of reblogging is straight-up content theft; so the idea that you can put someone else’s stuff on your page and have it not be a bad thing is a strange experience for them.

They’re likely also used to an algorithm recommending content based on what they hit “like” on, so they probably think that that’s how this works, too.
