*raises glass* this one is for you 2003!Raph, my fave turtle since i first watched tmnt as a kid
and then they proceeded to be the worst at their jobs for the next 20 years
No no, you don’t get it. Jesse and James are the absolute best there is at their jobs, but they have no idea what their jobs are.
They think that they’re thieves, agents of an elite criminal group led by Giovanni, stealing rare pokemon and advanced technology and such. And there might have been a time this actually was their jobs. In the first season or two, they frequently get angry phone calls about how they’ve fucked everything up, or get their expense account cut off because they have literally never turned a profit on their criminal enterprises and constantly procure and then lose/destroy expensive and elaborate devices.
But then the world came within a hair’s breadth of being destroyed, several times, and Jesse, James, and their weird cat rescued everybody. As terrible as they’ve always been at criminal endeavors of any kind, when the apocalypse approaches and they’re forced to step up, they’re really fucking good at saving the day.
And Giovanni is over here like… if the planet is destroyed, or time/space becomes unrecognizable, or civilization collapses, there’s no way for me to run a profitable criminal enterprise anymore. I need this planet, because it’s where I keep all my stuff. And I don’t pretend to understand the why of it, but these couple of bumbling nutcases that I should have fired years ago seem to be an important component of that? Somehow? So you gotta stop thinking about them in terms of acquisitions and start considering them… loss prevention. As in, even if you waste a million dollars a month on giant cat-faced robots and a vast array of fancy ball gowns and they never turn a profit, they are preventing all of your assets from going away at the same time because of something you can’t do anything about.
And that’s the great secret behind Team Rocket. These guys aren’t thieves, they’re professional superheroes (sponsored by organized crime). Of course, nobody ever bothered to tell them that.
“To protect the world from devastation…”
Plus, as is frequently pointed out: Jesse and James are good at every other job EXCEPT Team Rocket. They’re actually smart businesspeople and run successful food and merchandise stands and are great salespeople. Hell, even in Team Rocket situations where they’re not chasing after Pikachu they’ve done better. It’s just their Achilles Heel is one damn OP rodent.

pretty sure giovanni keeps them on so he can commit insurance fraud by giving them tech insured for way more than what was paid for it so when it inevitably gets destroyed he gets a nice check.
I’m accepting all of these responses actually
J&J (& Meowth) are field testers, catspaws and urban legend verifiers.

every day i am percieved™️
There is a reason for this though!
The original tweet summarizes it pretty well. Fanfic tends to be popular among certain types of neurodivergent people (aka people most likely to read excessively as a child, and have burnout as an adult) for the same reasons that we tend to hyperfixate–neurochemical signaling (I hope I’m using that phrase correctly). What I mean is, for people who are really dependent on changes in dopamine/serotonin/neurotransmitter levels, who have low levels or wonky neural reward systems (perhaps the most common types of neurodivergence)…people like us rely on dependable external sources of those neurochemicals. In order to function, we spend a lot of our free time trying to level out our brain chemistry using things that can reliably bring us a steady stream of joyful moments (rewards) without costing too much of the mental effort that is already in short supply.
significantly: the investment of reading has to be balanced with a steady “return on investment”–and this return has to start fairly quickly. because again, we don’t have a lot of attention/energy to invest on tiring things. we have perpetual “low batteries” in that regard.
that doesn’t mean these stories are “simple,” or that they lack complexity or value–only that the reward has to come in short regular intervals, and it has to have a low “upfront cost.” these stories are only “easy” to read in the sense that the effort we put into them is rewarded in a timely manner. which is why fanfic stories are so perfectly formulated for neurodivergent readers–they are often beautifully written, but skip a lot of the upfront costs (of introducing new characters, of world-building, of getting the audience emotionally connected to the story elements).
the nature of fanfiction is that the reader has a pre-existing relationship with this world and these characters. that–combined with the shorter average length of fics–means that fan fics very quickly start rewarding the reader in a way that traditional fiction struggles to. that’s not a bad thing! and maybe it’s something more traditionally published writers should be paying attention to.
Fanfic, as a genre, has been uniquely helpful and accessible to many neurodivergent readers who would otherwise struggle to immerse themselves in stories. I’m glad so many of you have found a way to love and enjoy reading again! The important thing is that you are spending time inside stories you love–the way those stories are published or presented to the world is just one detail. The fact that you find joy in the process of reading (or listening!) to stories–that is what matters.
I feel understood 🥰
Well now I know why I haven’t touched a book in ages
364 days a year, I am a guy with one leg. But today, I am Groot.
COSTUME REVEAL: This year, I’m dressing as a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Awwwww
My sensitive self can’t take this. this is beautiful 😫😢💕
I love Gordon.
She’s blind and he was making all the points about the pie in a way she could respond to: sound. He is an amazing man
Not to mention Christine won Master Chef that year.
I reblog Gordon Ramsey every time he appears
aww the feels. this is so beautiful.
Good lord I haven’t been this teary-eyed in a while.
why am i crying dammit
Come on. You all know I couldn’t not have this on my blog. 💙
Not going to lie - everytime this comes across my dash, I unlike it to relike it. and then I reblog it. Christine Hà is amazing and deserves all the recognition she’s earned in the past… eight years. That being said, anyone who calls Gordon Ramsey a monster needs to see this, and his work with the kids on MCJ. He is kind, patient, and caring. The yelling and screaming you see? Is because he doesn’t put up with bullshit. In this house, we love and appreciate Gordon J. Ramsay.

Welcome to Japan
Where cars are parked orderly and in reverse
Where fruits can be cubes
Where people keep left
And lamps have different brightness for double beds
People queue up in lines
Applies to stickers too
Where what you get is the same as the poster
you get waved goodbye..?
Relieving both mind and body
Yup.
Smooth train operator
No embarrassing knocking or barging into rooms to check out if they are occupied
When you need an extra hand
For the selfiestas
Brolly holders
Because normal manhole covers are too mainstream
Think diagonal
And anytime u need to soak your feet
Where you raise responsible adults, not brats
And luggage is organised in color codes
When you need help after the condom broke
Instant sanitary gratification
Why they are so welcome at football matches
Where water is that clean in the drains
Nuff said

Not to sound like a 90s shallow prep, but how you dress can affect your self esteem, and putting energy into wearing things you actively like and projecting an ideal of yourself through fashion instead of seeing clothes as things you have to put on out of obligation helps.
It also can give you a sense of control over your appearance that you otherwise wouldn’t have lmao
I bought a cape because of this
this post is written in a humorous tone but this is the realest shit.
two years ago i wore baggy sweatpants and flip flops every day because i was depressed but then decided eh to hell with it and bought some black edgy emo clothes bc thats how i always wanted to dress but never got a chance to and it was only then that i realized that the sweatpants flip flops look was just keeping me in my depression funk. i didnt like the way i looked and i didnt identify with the clothes i was wearing and it only made me feel worse.
i then went through my entire wardrobe and got rid of everything that made me feel that way.
now i have multiple outfit possibilities requiring different levels of effort but on days where putting on clothes just seems like a project i just have to put on black jeans and a band t-shirt and i can still feel good about the way i look which is a really good way to start off my day.
i can not recommend this approach to clothing enough.
Can I just say this is the healthiest mindset related post I have seen on this sight and I want every single person on here to read this
A short thing about “weird triggers” inspired by this that I’ll end up deleting later honestly-
You can reblog this but like... don’t fuck around??? I won’t hesitate with the block button on this I swear to fuck I won’t.
Well this doubled in notes in like three hours so... I’m glad other people are finding this validating
