Where do gifmakers even get their insanely HQ copies to make gifs. I want to get in to making gifsets now that I know how to use photoshop but the only totally-completely-legal "HD" copies of movies/tv I can find are garbage quality

it’s so weird to me how there’s cliques and hierarchies within fandom spaces these days like. we’re all just fucking nerds. how are you gonna try to be popular amongst the nerds. how are you going to feel superior over your fellow nerds. at the end of the day you’re still a fucking nerd bestie

There are two types of fandom nerds:

Those who contribute to say, "Look at me!"

And those who contribute to help build community.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. And I definitely think the above (community building vs “look at me”) is true, although those two things aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive either: Some people build community but also want to be at the top of said community and control the narrative a bit, and that’s where it gets tricky. And I’m not suggesting it’s always malicious—for some people, it’s simply a deep need to be acknowledged and feel important, usually born out of some type of hurt.

I'm obviously ancient and remember the days of yore when we still had Livejournal (no, not even that: I remember “fandom” as meeting in the Café corner of a comics store and going to Cons together 🙈) and Tumblr wasn't a thing. And I really don't want to go back to those days because what we have now is great in so many ways.

But I also see hierarchical thinking in fandom. That’s also not new, but I do believe the way we are now interconnected exacerbates it because it’s just so much more visible. And it honestly hurts my soul a little:
