Join Joel McDonald at the 3rd annual Colorado Anime Fest, March 23rd-25th 2018. Register at: www.coanimefest.com/registration

Joel McDonald is a FUNimation ADR director by trade and an actor by birth. You’re probably not familiar with his early work, but rest assured that his portrayal of Hickory Dickory the Mouse in Ms. Waddell’s 6th grade class play was inspirational.

Since then, Joel has directed shows like “Big Windup!”, “Initial D”, “Sgt. Frog”, “Deadman Wonderland”, and a dozen or so more. You can also hear Joel’s totally adequate voice acting in “Sekirei” (Minato), “Initial D” (Takumi), “Fairy Tail” (Zeref), “Baccano!” (Jacuzzi), “D. Grayman” (Jasdero), “Hetalia” (Poland), and “Attack on Titan” (Milieus).

Gamers might recognize him as Captain Flynt and Tector Hodunk from “Borderlands 2” or Deputy Lee in “Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.”

Oh, and he plays Meow in “Space Dandy”, which he’s currently co-directing.Joel rarely bites, so come say hi.

Welcome to Colorado Anime Fest’s Saturday Morning Cartoon Recs! Where the con staff recommend their favorite anime for you to watch. This month’s rec is Ranma 1/2, a classic for all of us who were introduced to anime in the 1990′s!

Series Title: Ranma ½

Created by: Rumiko Takahashi

Released: 1989

Genre: Martial Arts, Romantic Comedy, Urban Fantasy

English Distributor: Viz Media

Subbed: Yes

Dubbed: Yes

Watch it Online: http://www.hulu.com/ranma-12

Ranma ½ is the story of a martial artist, Ranma who falls into a cursed spring. When someone falls into these springs, they take on the appearance of whatever drowned in the spring when they come in contact with cold water. In Ranma’s case, he takes on the appearance of a girl. Classic 80’s-90’s antics ensue in this very silly series created by Rumiko Takahashi, best known for being the manga-ka behind Inuyasha.

The staffer who recommended it said, “This is just great. It has a gender-swapping character, it has dynamic character development and relationships, and every episode is funny in some way or another.” And we totally agree! If you’re looking for a fun series to get into, definitely check out Ranma ½ today!
