honestly if you haven’t rewatched the I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE scene from Hunger Games in a while….

go. watch it.

because everything about that scene is so fucking raw.

  • shaky-cam used coherently and compelling for the first and last time in film history
  • the utter lack of music of any kind. no foreboding music, NOTHING.
  • the gross close-ups on Effie Trinket so you can see all of her pale makeup melting off in the heat
  • the microphone popping as Effie announces “PRIMrose Everdeen”
  • Jennifer Lawrence’s shellshocked expression
  • the way JLaw lets her voice crack when she shouts “PRIM!!”
  • the shriek when she shouts “No! I–I volunteer! I volunteer!”
  • and finally, the resolved way she basically utters her own death sentence: “I volunteer as tribute.”
  • Prim going through all 5 stages of grief in just the ways she shouts “No!” as she’s dragged away from her sister
  • Katniss saving her sister from certain death, and the last words she says to her are, “I’m so sorry.”
  • Gayle stepping in and resolutely picking Prim up and carrying her away.
  • the way Katniss is escorted up by 4 Capitol soldiers.
  • the three-fingered salute.

i mean just……….fuck me up, man.
