In light of recent events...

… I’m making this post for the sake of myself, and everyone on this platform. Everyone. To the people I write with, to the people I don’t. To the people who know I exist and the people I don’t. To the people who may or may not like me. I’m making this post because it’s important and no matter how we try to look at it, there really is no escape from reality at a time like this.

I will be saying, however, this post includes the topic of COVID-19, HOMELESSNESS, DEATH AND OTHER HEAVY TOPICS so please read at your own discretion.

In times like these, when a disease/illness/virus/etc becomes widespread and affects multiple communities, many of us would opt to try to escape it by retreating to the safety of our homes and our online communities. Some of us are more extroverted and may seek out others physically to provide relief for themselves. However, this is the first I’ve ever seen in my entire life a situation like this get to this level of tragedy and sadness. People all over the world are dying, some of them to the virus, and others to semi-related causes. People are struggling to find the help they need, and even people retreating to their homes are scared for their lives because in the end, no matter how we look at it, the pandemic is affecting everyone’s daily lives, from school, to work, to even daily routines such as going out for a walk, going to the store, ordering food, and even hanging out with your friends.

It’s never once been this bad. And that’s why we all need to remember to stick together, stay positive, and provide for yourself and your community if you can.

Some of us will be lucky. Some of us will avoid the illness entirely. Some of us may contract the illness, but not have any severe symptoms worthy of a hospital visit. However, there are people less fortunate than us out there. People who can not afford their amenities. People who are sick and dying. People who have no shelter to take when the world is at its worst. These people have no choice but to suffer unless we try to make a change.

The governments and the rich folk who control our country are attempting relief efforts, but sometimes that’s not enough. Sometimes we need to stick up as a member of our community and help others when we can. I’m not saying everyone is obligated to provide for others. But, if you are in a position where you can afford to help someone, even if it’s just as small as providing an extra roll of toilet paper, or an extra bottle of hand sanitizer, please, please, PLEASE provide those small reliefs to the people who need them.

I have an elderly neighbor downstairs who is handicapped and in a wheelchair. She has very little money and can hardly make a trip to the grocery store without worrying about contracting the illness. In addition to that, essential items such as toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, water bottles, etc are all missing. I was lucky enough to find a store that had packs of water, and i made sure to get an extra large pack just for her. I brought it directly to her door and it almost brought her to tears when she received it. There will be people out there who can not provide for themselves, so if you are able to, please lend your aid where you can to help everyone that you can.

And even if you can not provide essential items or money at a time like this, the best thing you can do both for yourself and others is to remain POSITIVE and be a GOOD INFLUENCE on both your friends and your family. Offline and online. This pandemic is horrible, and it will have lasting effects on multiple countries around the world. However, it does not mean the end is near. It does not mean we need to resort to underhanded tactics to get the safety and security that we want. Be there to support your friends and family during these awful times, and re-assure them that things will get better.

Medicines and drugs are already being tested to treat the virus, and a vaccine is slowly in the works. it’s only a matter of time before these things can be distributed internationally and save millions of lives. Remember, that there is NO NEED TO PANIC. Panicking spawns doubts, and doubts spawn bad habits that could potentially harm you or others.

Love yourself. Love your friends. Love the family you have or have made for yourself. We will all be okay.
