This road trip idea circled his brain for the past several years, but Oliver doesn’t have the courage to confess. It’s one thing to be a romantic, and another thing to be obsessed. Oliver’s been obsessed with escapism for far too long. Their relationship has had it ups and downs, and the idea of venturing into the nature, losing all connections to the material world is a seductive thought.
❝ However long this bean brain of mine could hold a thought, ❞ he teases her, using a hand to wipe the grease from his temple. She’s worse than a hormonal teenager, and he means that with loving sincerity. ❝ I don’t need to be the one to tell you that clean air will do wonders for the soul. You’ve had your fair shares of living out in the wild. Take a big whiff, Di, and smell the dirt, the fresh air, the adventure! ❞ It’s no surprise that she’s barely listening, but it doesn’t bother him in the slightest. Every kiss from her is worth more than his ego. He hums into the kiss, his attention all on her and not the road. Instinctively, he lifts his foot carefully off the break to slow their speed. ❝ When I’m through with you, you’ll be begging for some cold water. ❞
She giggled lightly - she only giggled with Ollie, it was ridiculous to say the least when you thought about it. Only Babs liked to remind it to her though. “ Probably held it longer than your last shot then, ” Ouch ! That hurt. But she chuckled even louder, a shrug as she let his goatee go with teasing. Honestly, Dinah was both a camping girl, and a hotel girl. She was past thirty, actually she was forty, she kept forgetting about it yes, and as much as she loved adventures, she also liked real beds. Crossing her arms over her chest, head tilted, Dinah said, “ Adventures, really ? Our whole lives are adventures Ollie. What’s a little road trip for us ? Vacations, even honey-moon - which I’ll remind you we never got -” she said raising her index in between them, pulling back from the kiss and noticing he was losing attention from the road. “ Yeah, you wish babe. ” Dinah could add she’d exhaust him to the bone, and that would still be right, they both knew about it. It was called experiences. His car was vintage, so she started to look for a tape or a cd… she checked the radio, and frowned, no hole for none. “ Are we seriously going to spend hours and days in a car with no music ? ” And she had some serious tastes on the matter, which Ollie didn’t quite agree on.
There is only one person in this mortal world who could mock Oliver in such a way that doesn’t get a rise out of him. His fragile pride and ego made it easy for people to ignite a bitter rage, and yet with Dinah, Ollie knew when she’s teasing (and when she wasn’t). Although, her comment about him in the bedroom did warrant a pout. ❝ Your libido is insatiable, ❞ Oliver smirks, his chest puffing out, ❝ no one but me can keep going as long as you can. ❞
What Dinah said about their lives is the truth. The whole purpose in moving to Seattle is the fresh start for their future together, and hopefully one where domesticity and peace will be the highlight of their days. Oliver knows that something or another will pop up and disrupt their zen, but he can dream about finally kicking back with the love of his life. ❝ Our lives are like a river, Di. There are times we hit turbulent waters, and there are times when the river opens up into a gentle stream. Even when the river slows down, an adventure still awaits. ❞ The conversation suddenly changes, ❝ There’s no better music than the sound of the wind blowing through your hair. ❞ Oliver takes the opportunity to breathe in the fresh air. He knows he won’t win this, but he has to try. He smiles at Dinah, reaching over to pat her thigh. ❝ One more hour, then I’ll tell you where I hid your metal tapes. ❞
