Since Johanna Mason was the only living female victor of 7 for the Quell, I would like to think that when they called up “Ladies first” she just stomped over, grabbed the piece of paper herself and shouted “GEE I WONDER WHO THE FUCK IT COULD BE? HOLY FUCK BALLS IT’S ME I’M SO SHOCKED” and the Peacekeepers have to drag her away from the microphone

What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless

FOOD

  • Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food
  • grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread
  • different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.
  • some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit

SHELTER

  • Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment
  • sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it
  • Some churches offer short term residence
  • Find your nearest homeless shelter
  • Look for places that are open to the public
  • A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

  • A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.
  • Public libraries have bathrooms you can use
  • Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.
  • Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver
  • Local beaches, go for a quick swim
  • Some truck stops have showers you can pay for
  • Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
  • Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

OTHER

  • first aid kit
  •  sunscreen
  •  a travel alarm clock or watch
  •  mylar emergency blanket
  •  a backpack is a must
  •  downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards
  •  sleeping bag
  •  travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror
  •  swiss army knife
  •  can opener

Hi there, very new gymternet member here, I've seen a lot talking about Aly's awful form but I've watched some videos mainly from Rio and besides the god awful cowboying in her double Arabian in her first floor pass, I can't see a whole lot. Could you please kindly reference some videos? Thank you, just trying to get a better understanding of the gymternet. Ps-- I love your blog, it's very helpful!! 💕

Sure! I don’t dislike Aly or anything, but I can’t enjoy her gymnastics and her form drives me crazy. Okay first off, her form in a BHS is incorrect. Her twisting form is not that great either as you can tell when she’s vaulting. Awful leaps, in my opinion. Just watch any video of her. There’s no specific ones to show her form issues but they’re quite noticeable to me since I’ve been involved with gymnastics my whole life. Hope this made sense. Maybe someone else can elaborate? @omgsamchap

I mean she doesn’t have any truly awful form issues, it’s just little things that add up to make her gymnastics kind of meh to me. Soft knees, crossed feet/legs when twisting, incorrect body shapes (particularly on bars), leg separations, etc. However, I will say I think her form improved quite a bit in 2016 and I hope she continues to improve it; she’s such a hard worker, and I’d love to root for not only her personality and work ethic, but her actual gymnastics as well.

I think there are many enjoyable things about Aly’s gymnastics like her awesome floor tumbling, her consistency on her double l turn and gogean, her patterson, and how she usually dramatically improves and peaks at the Olympics. She does have many form errors though. These are her most noticeable ones.

Her form was actually pretty clean on her DTY, but when she upgraded to an amanar she would bend her knees a lot in the last half twist.

On bars she tends to have issues with leg separations, bent knees, and flexed feet.

On beam her bhs form and switch half are hideous. She also bends her legs early on her front pike and has an ugly leg separation on her layout.

AND YES THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SWITCH HALF HOW DOES IT GET CREDIT

On floor, her tumbling form can be pretty good (ie. she points her toes on her double pike), but there can also be some small things. Her legs are separated in her dos santos, her double arabian is a little cowboyed, she has some leg separation in her triple twist and dlo, etc. These aren’t really a big deal and are just some 0.1 small errors. Tho her switch ring and switch 1/1 leap were really ugly.

i’m gonna go with Mary Lou Retton in 1984 doing the same tumbles (DLO, full in, double back) that Groshkova did six years later

(the real ahead-of-its-time USSR FX from 1990 is the what the shit, chuso 10.0 where she did four tumbling passes that most current russians would kill to have as their set)

Groshkova didn’t do the same passes than Retton, her routine was way more difficult. She did a “double full in” (like a Silivas but with the two twists in the first somersault), whip+double back and a piked full in dismount.

LMAO MARY LOU RETTON LMAO I CAN’T COPE RN

Lmao how do you forget one of the hardest skills ever done on women’s floor exercise and then compare it to Mary Lou…
