Fate?

Open

“Wake up my pets. There’s a job to be done.”

Alicia wasn’t the best person to piss off and that was a fact. The witch had the tendency to throw around curses easily and without a care. She stood above her crystal ball that was now glowing an array of black, purple, and gold hues while the store around her turned black and lined with stars. And from the this darkness a constellation glowed, coming forth and transforming into a form of this universe, its outline connected by the stars.

Image

“It’s your turn, Vulpecula, my little fox.”

She placed a hand under the chin of the fox and pushed it up so that she was looking in its eyes. It only took moments for her to tell her pet what it was to do. Foxes, known for their mischievous and cunning nature, were sure to give this person a hard time. Vulpecula just had to do its job unseen to make it worse for the recipient.

And when she released it, the room went back to normal and the fox constellation made a run for the front door of the shop, slowly changing into a cloud of smoke along the way that would be invisible to anyone but her once it crossed the doorway. But before it could go through, a customer walked in right as it ran through the door and by them.

Spell Casting

Open

Alicia wasn’t sure that she’d label herself as “evil”, but sometimes there was something about causing a little trouble among the innocent that she enjoyed. Casting spells that didn’t (always) cause harm was simple fun. An event that was fun to watch unfold from the sidelines. It could be a patch of ice, sudden infatuation with the first face seen, temporary reversal of directional cues, whatever she felt in the moment. Childish occasionally? Perhaps, but it never failed to put a smile on her face - the mishaps of others.

But suddenly someone walked in her line of sight and disrupted the focus she had on her current victim.

Be Careful What You Wish For

Open

Potions and custom spells were specialized services that Alicia offered for a higher price than her fortunes. The creation required more time and preparation that she made sure the customer would pay for before she started anything. After all, she was never one to give out her magical services for free. No one was that special to her nor was anyone worth it. The profit was more important than what someone thought of her.

And that’s what the day brought her today. A customer she had seen once or twice had returned again, but this time for a potion of…

Image

“Dark devotion. My favorite.”

Alicia stood over her cauldron that was now glowing purple with swirls of smoke rising out of it. All good signs. But as she did this, the door of her shop opened and another customer walked in. Paying them no mind, she continued to direct her focus on the recipe at hand.

Last Dance || Alicia & Klaus

Of course she got closer to him. However, he didn’t make a move to widen the gap. Klaus just smiled politely, attempting to at least provide the image of a decent host towards the woman who spent so much money for his company.
“Well I’m sure that some might have come not knowing,” Klaus spoke, beginning the dance easily, “You don’t strike me as the woman to frequent formal balls such as these. Wouldn’t spending time in the woods looking for wolves be more interesting for a woman like you?”

Alicia fell into the steps of the dance with ease, not a second of hesitation or doubt. She never liked being lead, in any aspect, but for the sake of the dance and ending it sooner, she figured it wouldn’t hurt this once. And being that he so confidently started it, she was curious if he’d be able to keep it up. It was more often than not that she watched others stumbled over themselves - especially in her presence. He had yet to, but it was only a matter of time.

Image

“That is true, but the last wolf was rather disappointing,” she stated, eyes looking over Klaus. “And besides, where else would I be able to give everyone the gift of me in this gown?” Her eyes that once looked him over moved to look over herself. A smile forming at how she looked in her black lace, form-fitted gown. “It’s a special treat for everyone in attendance.”

Last Dance || Alicia & Klaus

“I hardly know how a man such as myself can provide that relief,” Klaus spoke, leading her out to the dance floor, a careful expression on his face, “I believed to have disappointed you in our last conversation. Surely you could have bid on any other man for that attention.” He sure would have appreciated watching it unfold rather than being the sole target, at least. And he would have likely been dancing with a man or woman who a much easier disposition than the witch in front of him.
They reached the dance floor and Klaus easily slid into a dance position with her, making sure that he was properly keeping his distance with a proper hand on her back and a proper hand in hers. At the very least, Klaus could relish in the fact that songs could only last for a small amount of time. And then he could be free of her.
“I don’t suppose you know how to dance?” Klaus asked as the final song began to play. He knew how, but he wasn’t sure if she did.

“You disappoint me in every conversation,” she smiled. But it was true. She had sensed something in him when they first met, yet, all he gave her was the polite, gentlemanly disposition. It was incredibly boring. Unfortunately for her, he was the best candidate out of the volunteers and being that she had the money ready to spend and the idea of participating for once, she had to do something. On the brighter side of it all, it could have been worse for her. She could have ended up with one of the other volunteers.

As he led them to the dance floor and positioned himself properly, she took the liberty to close the distance between them a little more. Alicia didn’t have a problem with physical touch and with the way he spoke, she wouldn’t be able to hear him over the music anyway. Which, when she thought about it, might have been a good thing. It was rare that he said anything of interest.

Image

“Of course I do." Why would she be here if she didn’t? “Only idiots attend a ball without knowing how to dance. Though I must say, their pathetic attempts do serve to amuse me.”

the thirteenth love fortune

* / crystalball-predictions.
Geez, Alicia was still as cold as ever—but given that her co-worker was always like this, Muffy wasn’t as disconcerted as she was initially. The barmaid flipped her blonde curls off her shapely shoulder and pushed her glossy lower lip out. If her little pout could melt innocent men to their knees, it shouldn’t hurt to try it on women too!
image
“Won’t you pretty please give me a love fortune tonight? I really think that this time, my stars are aligned! Aren’t they? Oh, do tell me! ♡” To add some fire in her sympathetic punch, she batted her eyelashes a couple of times between her pleading words!
Gosh. Muffy hoped in the deepest part of her heart that the buxom witch would oblige!
… She can discern how the other’s patience was chipped thin from her previous requests… Evidently, this was the third time of the month Muffy shamelessly asked for a love fortune! It’s concerningly becoming a weekly basis for the two, but the blonde just couldn’t resist the temptation!
As soon as she found out the witch was a fortune teller, Muffy knew it was her golden ticket to find her true love and to squander her chances would be an egregious mistake!

Alicia rolled her eyes at the woman’s pathetic display. It was pretty clear to the witch why the blonde had terrible luck in love when she acted like that. She couldn’t see why Muffy didn’t see it, but then again, she probably thought it was cute. Think again, little one.

Image

“If I tell you your stars will never align, will you leave me alone?” Although the witch didn’t believe in happy endings, that didn’t mean that there weren’t brief moments where the stars did align for each person. It was how the cosmic powers worked. She, however, much preferred to tell people it will never work out when they annoyed her. And with their defeated attitude after, it usually didn’t work out still giving her the hundred percent accuracy she was known for. There was also the fee she charged people to change their fate, but that was only for those willing to pay the high price.

Alicia sighed and poured herself a drink. “I have a feeling you won’t,” she added before the woman was able to answer. “So fine. What do you want to know?”

Fortune Favors the Bold

It was only a matter of time before the search for new experiences led the intrepid Regison heir underground… or to The Underground, to be precise. The Leudan nightclub was unlike anything he had ever seen in his life– filled with enough people to rival even the grandest soirée, a throng of bodies moving to a thunderous beat beneath an electrifying light display. While the sights and sounds both fascinated and thrilled him, Will was content for a time to remain on the sidelines, a passive observer to this foreign spectacle of almost primal ferocity.
It was there he was inadvertently made privy to something just as, if not more interesting to him, however; and in pursuit of the validity of this information, he approached a pair of young women at work behind the bar. A beautiful blonde with eyes that glittered like emeralds of the island’s own mines, even in the dim lighting, greeted him with a winsome smile– and beside her, bewitchingly aloof, stood Aphrodite incarnate.
Rose-tinted tresses, the sort which tempted one to run their fingers through, cascaded in luxurious waves down her body, drawing his eye along every strategically exposed curve. Like a sumptuous flower in the peak of its bloom, she was a feast for the eyes, and Will found himself enthralled and humbled alike by her presence… and perhaps more than a bit peckish, so to speak.
He was a man, first of all things, and a lover of all things magnifique.
Leaning slightly inward to be better heard over the music, he gave an apologetic nod to each woman in turn, pulling his gaze from the latter with some reluctance.
“Pardon my interruption, fair maidens, but I happened to overhear something most intriguing from another patron…”

“According to rumor, there is a skilled clairvoyant in the midst of your staff. Might either of you have any insight as to how one would go about locating them? I would be most grateful to you.”
@crystalball-predictions

Alicia had one reason for accepting the job at The Underground: money. It was simple. The more attention she brought to the bar, the more she got paid through tips - and some fun for herself. Attracting people was something that came easy to her. It was natural and involuntary, similar to breathing. She couldn’t help that she had a natural allure that brought in men and women alike, which either ended in adoration or jealousy. Both of which she welcomed with open arms.

Her nights at the bar were routine. She’d flirt, make a few drinks (for herself included), and if she was feeling it, dance a little. After all, the previous owner had wanted to originally hire her as the dancer and face of it. But when she grew tired of that and they left, she moved to strictly behind the bar and did what she felt when she felt like it. It was her signature at work - everyone knew her for her looks, confidence, and self-important attitude.

And of course, her supernatural talents. Co-workers and bar guests often asked her about it or for a reading when they realized she was the witch rumored across the islands. While on another job she charged extra, but as long as they were willing to pay she had no qualms. Tonight was no different as people approached her, particularly a gentleman with blond hair and blue eyes. The kind of guy she could see her co-worker falling for and herself disliking. From his looks to the way he spoke: irritating.

Image

“What’s your business with them?” Alicia asked, polishing the glass in hand. When it came to those that she was uncertain of if she wanted to deal with them, she tested the waters. All the better when they didn’t realize that she was the ‘rumored clairvoyant’.

Although the witch already had a cat and two bats as pets, she felt that it was time to add another to the group. Bastet traveled between her home and the shop and the bats, while they had freedom to fly at night, spent most of the day sleeping in the shop. With the uneven balance, she felt that it was time to get a pet that spent most of its time in her home. That, and Bastet needed a companion that stopped her from trying to hunt the bats during the day.

It didn’t take long before she came across the perfect one; long, smokey grey fur with a solid black face and gold eyes. He was the perfect complement to Bastet and looked daunting enough to fit her own looks and lifestyle.

Alicia sat on the couch and grabbed her phone off the nearest table. There were many things that the islands lacked - one of the most important being style. Everything was so old fashioned and although many were fine with dressing like old farmers and mine workers, the witch was not. And being that the island she currently resided on had no large clothing stores, she was left to online shopping. Thankfully, there were people somewhere with taste.

The witch scrolled through the catalogs of various shops purchasing anything that caught her eyes. She was ready to, once again, show the residents what real beauty and style looked like.

fortune favors the bold | leon & alicia

@crystalball-predictions
When Leon heard of a fortune teller on Arcadia, he hadn’t expected much. For what he’d heard, most of them were simply con artists looking to make a quick penny out of tourists. But much had been on his mind lately regarding his past, and he needed something to settle his mind. At the very least, if he was making a fool of himself, no one would recognize him as he came later in the evening to The Crystal Ball Fortunes.
He glanced around before catching sight of a pink-haired woman. She definitely looked the part – long flowing hair framed her hourglass figure and a generous amount of skin was showing. But then he remembered, that wasn’t the exact reason he came here, and moved his gaze back up.
“So you’re our resident fortune teller, huh?” he said with a gleam of interest in his eyes. “How accurate are the readings here? Gotta know my money’s worth, right?” He added a wink for good mesaure.

Alicia rolled her eyes at the questions asked by the man that walked through the shop’s door. She had grown tired of the same ones ringing through every time a new customer decided to pay her a visit. As if her reputation on the streets didn’t tell enough of her success (and beauty). But as always - to get the person to pay and leave faster - she answered the obvious.

Image

“Obviously,” she sighed. “My fortunes are a hundred percent accurate and always will be. If you have come here with an idea of what you’d like to hear in response to a question, turn around now. The truth will disappoint if you’re not ready to hear it.”

Last Dance || Alicia & Klaus

@crystalball-predictions
Klaus had obviously misheard what happened during the auction, right?
He had to have. After all, there was no way that his final dance of the evening was won for so much money. And especially not to the witch he met in his dreams, who he disappointed weeks ago on their first meeting in the living world. It was preposterous to think that she would waste so much money on an opportunity. After all, there were surely others she could string along. Plenty more she could tie a leash to.
And yet, no matter how many times he closed his eyes and opened them…Klaus was still at the Charity Ball, listening to every song that passed by, each ending coming like a horrific countdown to when he would have to fulfill his obligation.
His mind often wandered, during this time. What was her game, to approach him yet again? What did she think she could gain from him? What worth did an older, tamed gentleman have to a witch like her? Part of him dreaded what she would say. And yet another part anticipated it.
Finally, the final song of the dance was announced. Part of Klaus felt he should simply bow out, pretend he had to depart early. But before he could even think to act on it, she appeared by his side, as though anticipating the dance herself.
At the very least, all that money went to charity.
image
Klaus sighed, slowly offering his hand to her, intending to lead her out to the dance floor, “I’m honestly perplexed, Ms. Alicia. Just what do you intend with buying a man’s time with that kind of money?”

Boredom was a terrible thing. It drove people to do things that they normally wouldn’t in order to fill the time and space that they didn’t know how to use. The same couldn’t be said for the witch that had plenty of ways to fill her time; some better than others. But it wasn’t a typical day, Alicia had decided that this time around she wouldn’t be a volunteer and have the whole crowd fawn over her. No, instead, she had decided to be a bidder and see what plaything she could toy with for the evening. Unfortunately, that was when the boredom had settled in for her. Each person that presented themselves was dull, uninteresting, and too far below her league. And although she felt the same about a certain someone, the sheer boredom - and want to show off - was enough for her to place a bid.

The witch finished the glass in her hand with the ending notes of the song as if she had planned it and with the announcement of the final song starting, she made her way over to her lucky bid. As she approached him, she sensed his hesitation and it made her smile. She found comfort in someone else feeling unsure, distressed, or discomfort.

image

“Other than enjoying the stares I got,” she began, taking his hand, “the plan is for you to relieve my boredom.” The rest of the volunteers - from looks alone - she knew wouldn’t be able to handle her and since she was going to spend that kind of money she didn’t want it to be a complete waste.
