The silence in the meeting hall was quickly replaced by chatter coming from members of Thorin’s council. With parchments in their arms, they walked over to their usual seats while in the meantime chatting about recent activity that had been going on in Erebor.

After Erebor was reclaimed, Thorin gathered dwarves and dwarrowdams from royal families and that had knowledge when it came to finances and management. A lot of damage had been done after Smaug’s attack and everyone in Erebor knew it was not going to be easier.

That included you. After helping Thorin and his company reclaim Erebor, forever thankful, he had asked you live in Erebor. You didn’t give it a second thought, you had grown close to the company and losing them was like losing family. So, you grabbed your things, which weren’t many considering you had been on the road for over a year, and settled yourself in one of the chambers, coincidentally not far from Thorin’s.

Thorin entered the hall, everyone got to their feet and bowed out of respect, including King Thranduil and King Bard. Naturally, Thorin bowed back. Once Thorin sat down, so did everyone. Kili and Fili were on his right side with Dwalin and Balin on his left, watching as their uncle’s eyes scanned the members. As Thorin’s eyes moved from one person to the other, in the meantime getting flirtatious look from the young dwarrowdam Dega in her baby pink dress with small pink bows, he noticed your seat was empty. His over-protective nature took over him.

“Shall we start, your highness?” One of the dwarves asked, breaking the silence. Thorin looked over to Kili and Fili, his eyes asking the question themselves. Where is Y/N? To Thorin’s dismay, the brothers didn’t know.

“Everything alright Thorin?” Dwalin whispered under his breath, loud enough for Thorin to hear. But given that Dwalin’s whisper was low and gruff, everyone at the table heard.

“Where is Y/N?” He asked, worry etched on his face. The members looked amongst themselves shaking their heads. It was then when suddenly the hall’s door opened wide and there you were. You walked fast to your seat, trying to maintain professional. You had your sword on your side and your face was red and shone slightly. Thorin let out a sigh of relief when he saw you were safe. Throughout the journey, he had grown quite fond of you and it didn’t go unnoticed by the rest of the company. It was almost he had discovered a new feeling when every time he saw you, his heart skipped a beat, his palms got sweaty and he lost all sense of words.

“Where were you lass? Everything okay?” Dwalin asked when he saw you sweating as you tried to catch your breath. Fili and Kili smiled widely at you; Kili nudged you slightly in the ribs as it were your greeting to each other. The room fell silent and all eyes were on you.

“Sorry I was late your highness,” You directed your answer to Thorin who smiled. “I had to get out of the window of my chamber. My door was locked from the outside.” Thorin’s mouth fell agape. No one would dangle themselves off the windows of Erebor so that they won’t be late to a meeting.

“You could’ve gotten hurt, you know. Why didn’t you call for help?” Thorin asked, concerned. Thranduil and Bard on the other hand were impressed, nodding their heads in approval of your bravery. They surely would not risk their lives to see Thorin’s grumpy face.

“I did but no one seemed to hear me. Anyways, sorry again for being late.” You apologised yet again.

“It wasn’t your fault Lady Y/N,” Thorin said. “I’ll have your door get fixed.”

During the meeting, you and Thorin would snatch gazes from each other. Kili and Fili were so bored out of their wits when Dega started talking and you couldn’t blame them. You sipped on your wine that left a very weird aftertaste in your mouth and sighed, catching Dega’s attention.

“Am I boring you Y/N?” She snapped. Fili and Kili suddenly got interested. They knew you were ready to start a fight with her and that caught their attention.

“No, not at all. It’s just I can’t seem to wrap my head around why we should move everyone to Erebor when if you take a good look around, you see that everything is in ruin. We just claimed Erebor and we are not going to let children running amok in this havoc. What if they get hurt? We have no hospital. Ruin. Schools? Ruin. Social system? Ruin. That is unless you are going to rebuild Erebor yourself while we sit still and watch you put your back into it.” Your blood boiled like a kettle on the stove. There was bad blood between you and Dega and everyone knew it, including Thorin who was about to intervene but decided not to as you did have a point. Thranduil was sipping on his wine, interested how it was going to turn out.

“‘We’?” She questioned. “Erebor is not yours and will never be. You were just a placeholder in the journey to protect our king! A human in Erebor? Please!” She mocked. But she didn’t stop there. She didn’t let Thorin open his mouth to interject. “I heard rumours about you Y/N about you and that skin changer. You do not deserve to be here Y/N! A race of men amongst dwarves? You think our king would fall for your race?” Bard’s hands formed a fist, ready to jump but your cold hand stopped him by placing yours on his. “Go back to that skin changer’s house and shag him instead! Don’t get our king’s hands dirty with your past!” Dega shouted. The whole hall went quiet. Your hand started shaking both from anger and from the pain, emotionally and physically. Your stomach churned and your vision started blurring.

“Rumours are just rumours. You should get your facts straight before I knock that beard off your chin.” Your eyes got cloudy from the tears as your heart was about to beat out of your chest. Thranduil, who was sitting in front of you, his eyes widened in concern when he saw you going pale. Kili touched your arm and you were hot to the touch. “Y/N.” He whispered your name. You took the chalice and looked inside it. Small purple berries stood at the bottom.

You looked up at Dega, with fire in your eyes. “And next time, I suggest that you use a stronger poison. Thorin’s eyes widened when he saw you almost collapsing to the marble floor as soon as you got up but Bard on your left was quickly to catch you and lay you gently on the floor. Dega went pale.

Thorin rushed to your side while Fili fetched Oin. Thorin took you in his arms as your eyes rolled to the back of your head and your mouth foaming slowly. Your breathing got erratic.

“Everyone leave!” Dwalin shouted and everyone rushed out of the hall, except for Thranduil who examined the berries.

“How dare she talk about our race like that?!” Bard growled.

“Belladonna.” He confirmed. Soon Oin was running into the hall with his bag full of medicine.

“No Y/N!” Thorin whispered as he held you tight to his chest. “Focus on me Amralime.” Tears welled in his blue eyes as your body writhed from the poison. Your vision got blurrier by the second until all you could see was black.

You woke up to the feeling of a warm hand pressing yours. Your eyes fluttered open as they adjusting to the sun light outside. Gasps and sighs of relief filled your ears, making you jolt. Looking around you saw Kili and Fili sitting on your left smiling widely and Thorin on your right, holding your hand up to his lips, his eyes red from the tears that stung. Oin on the other hand was quick to check your vitals. Looking around, you realised you weren’t in the hospital wing of the castle.

“Mahal!” Dwalin’s voice boomed through the room which when you came to your senses realised it wasn’t yours. “You’re okay lass!” It took you a while

“That bitch. Where am I?” You muttered past your quivering lips, making Thorin smile. You looked at the slightly opened door and sat up ready to bolt out of that room. But Thorin’s hand pushed back gently on the bed.

“You are in my chamber. You are safe here. I will handle Dega myself.” His baritone voice said dangerously. “In the meantime, rest.” His thumb circled the back of your hand, trying to comfort you but you were too stubborn to listen to him. The scent of the sheets was a mixture of Thorin’s strong scent; his smoking pipe and his musk that seemed to calm your nerves.

“Oh, trust me I will rip her pretty little head off her neck for what she did and said to you.” Thranduil chimed in and sat down by the bed, throwing the train of his dress behind him, taking your other hand in his. Her words echoed in your ears. How dare she mention Beorn. You and Beorn were nothing more than close friends after you saved his race from the orcs and to show his gratitude towards you, offered you to live under his roof.

In the corner of the room stood Bard, pissed yet relieved when he saw you awake. “I have nothing to prove to her.” You croaked when Oin offered you a glass of water from the springs. The cold sensation that cascaded down your throat made you sigh.

“Rest Y/N.” Thorin pressed your hands, not wanting to leave your side but had to deal with Dega and her actions. As soon as Thorin got to his feet, your hand didn’t leave his much to his surprise. “Thank you.” You smiled. Thorin’s cheeks flushed red before he made his way out of his chambers.

*A day later*

Another meeting took place and Thorin was ready to punish Dega for her actions. How dare she speak ill of his One even though you didn’t know it.

“Before we start this meeting, I have a few words to say. I-” Thorin was cut short when the hall doors busted opened and in you came. In a blink of an eye, your sword was inches away from Dega’s neck. Gasps filled the room and Dega’s face went pale. Thorin’s eyes widened when he saw you. Bard ran behind you breathless. “I tried to stop her.” He announced to Thorin but he watched you both concerned about your health and in pride as you defended your status.

“Y/N, you should be in bed. What are you doing?” Balin said, panicking. He went through enough wars in his life and frankly he didn’t want to see more bloodshed.

“I want to give her a piece of my mind.” You spat. Dega trembled at the other end of the sword in fear. “I know that you locked my door. I found one of your bows underneath the door.” You reached in your pocket and tossed a small pink bow at her. She was mortified. “I might not have the king’s attention but you sure do and trust me not in a good way. You act all tough but face it, you will never take a blade for the king and his nephews.”

“Stop with your boasting Y/N.” She snapped. “You only did it because you wanted to be a hero!” Kili and Fili’s blood boiled.

“I’m not boasting, I’m stating facts. And if you are so disgusted by my race you know where the doors are and don’t let them hit you on your way out. Thorin may not be my king but trust, I know where my loyalties lie.” Your eyes started welling up when you reminisced on the journey.

“Pretty words won’t get you anywhere here Y/N. The king would want to keep his bloodline clean, away from that skin changer’s filthy paws!” And that’s when Dega hit a nerve both in you and Thorin.

“How dare you speak to my One like that?!” Thorin shouted, sending chills down everyone’s spines. “You have no right to talk to her in such manner! Guards! Take this filth out of here! Consider yourself exiled from this kingdom!”

“As mine.” Thranduil and Bard barked. Cries of plead filled the hall as the guards dragged Dega out. You sighed as you let tears of frustration roll down your cheeks. The sword supported your weight but Kili and Fili were quick on their feet to help you sit.

“Leave me and Y/N alone.” Thorin ordered. Everyone was out in a flash but you knew that they would be probably listening behind the doors. He walked towards you and rested his hip against the table and watched you silently.

“Quite a show.” Thorin chuckled, making you too.

“She got on my nerves bigtime.” You replied. His blue eyes sparkled as he watched you trace the intricate design of your sword. “Thorin, you said I am your One?” You addressed the elephant in the room. Thorin’s cheeks went red yet again. His eyes searched around the long table as if he could find an answer for your question.

“Umm…yes I did. Look there’s no easier way to say this but I’ve grown very fond of you during our time together. You saved me and my nephews from the jaws of death and I am forever in debt. You are independent, courageous, funny, loyal and clearly know how to defend yourself. Not to mention that Kili and Fili adore you.” You chuckled at his statement. You had grown quite fond of Thorin too but never had the courage to speak up.

“Every quality that a Queen has.” He mused. He moved closer to you and smiled down at you. “So, what do you say Y/N?” You were at a loss of words. It was actually happening.

“Thorin…I- Mahal yes.” Your lips crashed onto his, taking him by surprise. His calloused hands cupped your soft cheeks while his other hand went to the small of your back and pulled you closer to him. Faint cheers and clatter of coins were heard from behind the closed doors, making you and Thorin giggle.

“You dwarves and your bets.” You chuckled. Thorin smiled widely, his hands not leaving your hips. The doors creaked open and in came Kili and Fili with a frown.

“I can’t believe you chose our old uncle over this.” Fili pointed at his face; a smoulder plastered on his lips. Kili was quick to reply with a heavy sigh.

“I can’t believe we’re going to start calling our best friend ‘auntie’ now.”

Both you and Thorin chuckled as you both embraced in another heated kiss. You pressed your forehead to his. Grunts could be heard coming from the brothers before Dwalin grabbed them by the napes of their necks and with little to no effort threw them out of the meeting hall.

“They’re just jealous.” Thorin chuckled. “I can’t believe this is really happening.” You smiled sweetly at him, seeing the disbelief in his glimmering azure eyes. You could see it all now; you had a life planned ahead of you with him…with Thorin. No more running away, no more daydreaming, no more pain. Just you and Thorin together.

“Thorin Oakenshield…you are my antidote.”
