Replayed EoD again recently, and one of Ankka's line in Empty stood out to me.

What if I killed you, brought you back, and forced you to make the call? Hm. No, you've already died.

We already know the Scarabs won't infest us since we "stink of death" (regular biting is apparently fair game, though) but it seems like the Commander is just officially immune or at least partially resistant to Death magic and Necromancy in general. Thanks, Balthazar.

Joko implies he can still awaken them, but how obedient would the Commander be? Imagine a freshly Awakened Commander juking the shit out of Joko by ignoring his commands and pummeling him the second they 'awake'.

Also, what if the Commander isn't alive? What if their soul barely managed to return to their body, but not in time to preserve their life essence? They're moving and laughing, but they're cold to the touch and don't breathe anymore. A literal living corpse. Useful for not dying on the battlefield (again).

#this is why Chou is a lich. he was dead before Balthazar even killed him. in fact it wasn’t even the real Chou#he split when he died in Maguuma and essentially necromancied himself a perfect golem to complete the task before dying#then Balthazar killing him caused him to have to return and he’s been fucked up since#100% vampire lich and aurene then tried to halt the effects and they stopped working#now he’s just weirdly crystallized and dead and feeds off the life force of others#dead commander is the best commander so many things you can do with it
