Animes that are not what they looks like

Some recommendations, (I’ll update it with more someday )

Made in Abyss
13 episodes
Synopsis: Riko, daughter of the missing White Whistle Lyza the Annihilator, aspires to become like her mother and explore the furthest reaches of the Abyss. However, just a novice Red Whistle herself, she is only permitted to roam its most upper layer. Even so, Riko has a chance encounter with a mysterious robot with the appearance of an ordinary young boy. She comes to name him Reg, and he has no recollection of the events preceding his discovery. Certain that the technology to create Reg must come from deep within the Abyss, the two decide to venture forth into the chasm to recover his memories and see the bottom of the great pit with their own eyes. However, they know not of the harsh reality that is the true existence of the Abyss.
Yakusoku no neverland (The Promised Neverland)
12 episodes
Synopsis: Surrounded by a forest and a gated entrance, the Grace Field House is inhabited by orphans happily living together as one big family, looked after by their “Mama,” Isabella. Although they are required to take tests daily, the children are free to spend their time as they see fit, usually playing outside, as long as they do not venture too far from the orphanage—a rule they are expected to follow no matter what. However, all good times must come to an end, as every few months, a child is adopted and sent to live with their new family… never to be heard from again.
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou (Girls last tour)
12 episodes
Synopsis:  Amid the desolate remains of a once-thriving city, only the rumbling of a motorbike breaks the cold winter silence. Its riders, Chito and Yuuri, are the last survivors in the war-torn city. Scavenging old military sites for food and parts, the two girls explore the wastelands and speculate about the old world to pass the time. Chito and Yuuri each occasionally struggle with the looming solitude, but when they have each other, sharing the weight of being two of the last humans becomes a bit more bearable. Between Yuuri’s clumsy excitement and Chito’s calm composure, their dark days get a little brighter with shooting practice, new books, and snowball fights on the frozen battlefield.
Gakkou Gurashi! ( School-Live!)
12 episodes
Synopsis:  Yuki Takeya loves her school so much that she does not want to ever leave! Megurigaoka High School is a unique and lively place where Yuki enjoys her carefree life as a third-year high school student and member of the School Living Club. The club, consisting of the president Yuuri Wakasa, the athletic Kurumi Ebisuzawa, the mature junior Miki Naoki, the supervising teacher Megumi Sakura, and the club dog Taroumaru, prides itself on making the most of life at school. However, this illusion of endless bliss is just a bubble waiting to be burst because Yuki is unable to perceive what is truly happening around her. In reality, all is not as it seems—the real purpose of the School Living Club is to escape from the shocking and disturbing truth: the girls are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and have barricaded themselves inside the school as the sole survivors.
Others:
Mahou shoujo ikusei keikaku (survival magical girls)
Puella madoka magica (We all know it already, right?)
Happy sugar life (i dropped this one, lol)

Let’s debunk/dissect all of these, shall we…

  1. Comparing dollars to to an arbitrary measurement has no actual value of discussion other than trying to create some shock value. If you measured one million atoms to one billion atoms, it would still be non-visible to the human eye. Being afraid of extra zeroes is just impractical and illogical.
  2. You claim that a billion is such a large number that it couldn’t be spent…yet most wealth of the “the rich” is made up of assets that did require spending, so try again. Furthermore, most cash or cash equivalents assets “hoarded” by billionaires gets spent by financial institutions as billionaires don’t just “save” their wealth for the most part.
  3. You are correct that the wealth gap is increasing, but that is because that is how numbers work exponentially, especially when taken into account that the bottom portion of the population has seen a tremendous increase in wealth too….for example, if a doctor and a janitor both receive 5% raises, then although both of their incomes have increased by the same relative amount, the doctor most likely increased significantly more when compared at the absolute amounts.
  4. Wealth centuries ago was much more supported by tangible assets, whereas today most wealth is entirely supported by intangible assets, therefore most wealth has minimal bearing anyone’s livelihood.
  5. Claiming that 44% of billionaires became billionaires primarily due to their inheritance is not only misleading, but it is incorrect. Ironically, the same source that the 44% number that is being misquoted is using, clearly states that, “in fact, almost all of the current richest billionaires are self-made, from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world with a current net worth of more than $155 billion, according to Forbes, to Google co-founders Larry Page (more than $53 billion) and Sergey Brin (more than $52 billion), the 10th and 11th richest respectively, according to Forbes.”
  6. Claiming that the only alternative to accumulating wealth besides inheritance is due to “cold blooded, merciless exploitation of the working class”, yet in reality there are numerous ways, but the most common way by far is through investment building and financial market speculating, which has very little to do with the working class’ labor.
  7. Trying to compare saving wealth to investing wealth is probably one of, if not the number one reason people fail to build significant wealth. In other words, you’re comparing linear growth to exponential growth and questioning why there is a disparity.
  8. Claiming Jeff Bezos’ primary driver of his wealth building is due to the profits provided by his warehouse workers is once again inaccurate as Amazon is not paying profits to shareholders and most financial speculators credit Amazon’s growth in the past years primarily due to Amazon Web Services, not their warehousing segment.
  9. Their charitable contributions basis has no reliable relevance as the “net worth” quotes are based off of insufficient information. To give you an example; imagine someone criticizing you for your charitable donations based off of your wealth alone; ignoring your taxes, actual income, debt, contract obligations, etc. Furthermore, as I have said prior, most of their wealth is tied to non-cash equivalent assets, therefore it would be like going to your local business owner and saying because the building, their inventory, equipment, etc, have a valuation of $1m+ they should donate at least X amount of money.
  10. Once again, wealth does not equate to taxable income. Furthermore, most wealth valued is actually non-realizable, which means it gets taxed when realized. For example; if you buy a stock today for $100 and next year it is worth $110, you don’t have to pay taxes on the $10 you earned until you realize it (sell it), but for “wealth” measurements you will have accumulated $10 of wealth.
  11. The government being corrupt and the public being easily manipulated seems far broader of an issue than boiling it down to billionaires.
  12. Your whole homelessness estimate is just inaccurate from top to bottom as the $20 billion estimate was poorly derived. Additionally, if it truly was that cheap, then why has the government not done it, considering their annual budget is expected to be $8.12 trillion for 2020 between federal, state, and local? Furthermore, Bloomberg probably does not have $20b in cash equivalent assets, so no that wealth calculation is not accurate.

OP’s argument boils down to “big numbers are scary.”

Also the majority of super rich people are that rich because they know how to exploit government policies and regulations, not because they aren’t regulated.

If we lived under a free market system, many of these super rich people would not be where they are because there would be actual competition for their businesses.

Some great explication of why OP’s Scrooge McDuck understanding is dead wrong.

Only thing I’d like to add is on wage gap. My issue on that is, so what?

Why does it matter to you or me if someone else is making a great deal more money? So long as the number of people making large amounts of money more than I make isn’t significantly large to change demand for anything I want to purchase the value of another person’s income does not affect me in any way aside from petty jealousy.

The ironic thing is that this is exactly the sort of illogic that makes tankies think of a billion as “infinite money”. That’s why they like those cute little analogies.

Being worth a lot of money isn’t automatically “hoarding” anything. Most of that will be investments, not liquid assets. Y’all use “hoarding” to imply greed. It’s rhetoric, not based on facts.

Wow, those two people you cherry picked sure prove things about all billionaires. Even though these guys - by your own argument - have already donated several dozen times more than most people, even in the first world, will ever make in their lifetime.

Also, wealth is not zero sum. Someone being rich does not make someone else poor, nor does it “reinforce the conditions necessary” for “extreme” poverty. Heck, my smartphone has a stronger direct link to poverty, because I know parts of it were probably made in a sweatshop, just like most computers.

And last time I checked, Billionaires actually paid more in and of taxes than most people, not less.

And that’s just what I saw scrolling down.

I stopped reading at the second image. Everyone together now: NET WORTH IS NOT THE SAME AS CASH ON HAND.

If I own $1 billion worth of stock in Google, I am by definition not hoarding wealth, because I don’t have those $1 billion. Google does, and they’re spending it on business needs. I have the option to sell my stock, certainly, but if I sell too much at once the price will start to tank, making the rest of my shares worth less.

I have never taken a business class. This is all stuff that should be self-evident if all you know about the stock market is the oversimplified version of it I was taught in sixth grade.

How many of these people claim billionaires could end homelessness actually try and help the homeless themselves? Unless they’re all minors, some would make enough money to take in a homeless person or be able to team up with a friend to take in a homeless person. By their reasoning homelessness can be solved by throwing money at it. Yet how many actually try to do that for even one person?

It’s easy to be generous with other people’s “infinite” money.

i find it so condescending that the graphic says “Human brains are not evolved to understand large numbers.” it’s the same as going “You’re too stupid to understand why being successful is bad. I, the genius Marxist, will enlighten your pitiful monkey brain and explain why big numbers are, in fact, very scary.”

Can someone who’s good at math explain to me how 23% of 1 billion is less than 28% of 100,000.

Guy moved from New Jersey to Florida because he was sick of the state income tax, Jersey had to rewrite their budget to cover the 140 million dollar crater the dude’s move cost them.  NY is about to run into a similar problem.

The narrative shifts significantly when you use raw numbers for things like that.

how does (un)flattering stereotypes in fiction hurt or help “people of color” which is just colored people backwards? the same person who would take offense to the Washington Redskins would drive away in their Jeep Cherokee.

How many of these people would be just fine if it were the other way around, and how many of them actually read a single word of the book instead of mooing along with the herd?

Honestly, it’s better to just ignore crappy books. Don’t give them attention.
