The idea that racism will die out with the white baby boomers is a myth perpetuated by white millennials who do not want to take action and responsibility for calling out racism in their own generation. White millennials are not inherently less racist than white baby boomers and racism does not disappear with a generation. Racism is a construct that exists in all aspects of society, from politics to economics to social norms and activities. It can only be eradicated with constant and fervent dismantling of these powerful constructs in place and new generations must keep working at it. I’ve heard too many fellow white people say that when all these ‘racist old people’ die off then we’ll be fine but we all know that racism is not limited to old white people and that the alt-right is littered with white millennials. Check your friends and family on bigoted and racist remarks. Be a good ally. Sitting back for old people to die is not good allyship and you’ll soon see that they are not the only racists in power.

The reason I’m so negative about recovery is, recovery from childhood trauma requires re-processing events that happened when I was a scared child, with the mindset of an adult who is safe and secure. I have to take memories that I cannot even speak, and translate them into something comprehensible that will not overwhelm my mind/body/emotions. I have to learn how to accept being abused as a memory, part of my history, rather than something I relive every day. Remembering and reliving aren’t the same.

The thing is, my traumatic memories don’t belong to my adult self. When I have flashbacks, I AM that little kid. Not WAS, I really AM. He’s there, shaking and crying and bleeding still; he’s alive in the present. He holds that trauma. He’s who I am when I try to talk about it. Depending on what memory I’m trying to discuss, I’ll regress to whatever age it occurred, and the things that hurt the most happened at the youngest, most inarticulate ages. Scared kids don’t talk, they wail or stammer or struggle to speak anything coherent or anything at all. My therapist has moon sand, play-doh, paper and markers, and dolls that help me communicate a bit when I’m nonverbal, but it’s still really tough.

I can’t reapproach my trauma as an adult because I’m a child when I go anywhere near it. It’s not in the past. Body memories and flashbacks make me feel like I am a little kid getting raped right here, right now. It has to be over for me to process it. It’s not over. I’m really hopeless and I’m nowhere near being able to make substantial steps forward right now.

JustDelete.me is a directory that allows you to permanently remove yourself from different web services such as Facebook, PayPal, Amazon, etc. 

Why can’t you just go to the listed sites on your own and delete yourself that way, you ask? It’s not that easy. 

A lot of sites have dark patterns — interfaces created to trick users into agreeing to terms they otherwise wouldn’t — and JustDelete.me is designed to work around those patterns.

For example, Facebook’s Account Settings menu only offers people the option to deactivate their accounts, so many think that it’s not possible to completely delete themselves from the site; the “Delete Account” button can only be found if you hunt it down. With JustDelete.me, you can click the Facebook link and be taken directly to the “Delete Account” page without all the hassle.

JustDelete.me even color codes web services by how difficult it is to delete yourself from each site, with green being the easiest, and black being impossible. (Good luck deleting yourself from Craigslist.)
