Meredith as the Inquisition Antagonist AU

Yeah, you read that right. After watching Dragon Age: Absolution and finding out that somehow Palpatine Meredith is alive, my mind has been filled with what if's about Meredith being the antagonist of Inquisition. And honestly? I feel like Inquisition could've been better. Hear me out: —With Meredith we'd have a more direct connection to Dragon Age II instead of some villain from a DLC not everybody has played. Inquisition would've been a direct squeal from DA2, picking up more or less where it left off with the beginning of the Mage-Templar War. —More depth to Hawke's guilt and even more reason for them to help you because Meredith was their problem to fight against. Now the whole world is suffering from their mistake of not handling her better. —More depth to Varric joining the Inquisition. Now it's more personal. Maybe Varric will blame himself for not finding out what happened to Meredith's lyrium statue. First the red lyrium idol back in Kirkwall, now this. Shit. —The Chantry is divided more than ever. On the one hand, you have those who genuinely believe you are the Herald of Andraste, sent to save this world. On the other, you have those who believe Meredith is the true Herald, sent not only save the world but to also wipe it clean of magic. —Meredith wants her war and Inquisition would've been the perfect start that. The Mage-Templar War would've been perfect for that... if the bulk of it wasn't shoved into books/comics. So, I guess AU where the war actually happens in the game? —Meredith is fucking insane and her insanity being heightened by the red lyrium coursing through her veins paired with the powers she gets from both her templar abilities and the lyrium could be interesting to see. —Puts the Chantry on the spot because that one of their people. Meredith is theirs, and she's plunging Thedas into world-ending chaos. Paired this with the more religious Templars/Chantry people who see this as a way to get the mages uncontrolled, and the Chantry is scrambling as public opinion takes a sharp downward spiral. I have more ideas but I need time to put them all together in a tidier post. So many new ideas are forming, guys! But yeah. Meredith in Inquisition could've been something.

It’s so important to me that the animated Mighty Nein shows Essek being uncool. Yes, I want to see him being the ice cold Shadowhand. Yes, I want to see him cast Dark Star. But I also want to see him trying to explain what soup is and anxiously chugging whiskey hot cocoa and making weird noises while being manhandled by Caleb polymorphed into a giant ape.

I find it incredible that Hades 1 & 2 has Aphrodite, who is just straight up a busty naked lady, and she's not even the character people are most horny about. She might not even be in the top 10

i think a big reason that I get frustrated with the "liberals have never made anybody's lives better" is that in the US it used to be legal for insurance companies to charge you more if you were sick or even just straight up deny you the ability to sign up for them if you already had a "pre-existing condition", and this was only stopped by the passage of the ACA during Obama's term. but a lot of people who talk about politics on here are too young to really be affected by that since they would have been on their parents insurance (which the ACA required insurers extend until you're 26). and this was all done via politicking and not blowing up insurance CEOs mansions or whatever.

I'm not saying that the ACA fixed insurance forever, god no. but "you can't deny someone insurance for being sick" is a massive change and people don't realize it!

Most adults want the law’s prohibition on insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing medical conditions to stay. Two thirds (67%) of the public say that it is “very important” that this provision remain in place, including most Republicans (54%) However, only about 4 in 10 people (39%) are aware that that provision is part of the ACA.

You are underselling the change. Let us recall "rescission," where as soon as it turned out that someone had an expensive medical condition, the insurance company would start coming through their medical history looking for ways to invent a preexisting condition and revoke their coverage.

It really frightens me if kids don't know about how bad the US insurance system used to be.

My dad didn't have any health insurance in his 40s, because he was a freelancer and his (Frankly not bad at all) existing health issues allowed insurunace to fully deny him.

When his girlfriend was dying of cancer they had to have a long discussion about what they'd do when she hit her insurance's lifetime coverage limit and they would no longer cover her cancer care.

People should understand that it was Obama and the Democrats who stopped that kind of thing.

Yeah the way to avoid that shit was to get a group plan through your employer, without that insurance was unaffordable/worthless

And even those group plans were not reliable unless they were huge. I know someone who worked for a smallish company. About 100 people. One of their workers had a child with hemophilia. Required VERY expensive regular infusions to treat. When renewal time came around, the insurance company gave the company management a choice: They could either exclude hemophilia from the plan or double their premium. They got the (Democratic) state insurance commissioner and their (Democratic) state legislator involved and the insurers eventually backed down. But it could have gone the other way. The real solution is a single insurance pool that includes everyone.

Also: medical transition or a gender dysphoria diagnosis could be a preexisting condition.

I was denied insurance outright for having a high BMI and a thyroid condition, despite being in excellent health at the time. Them not being able to do this anymore is huge, actually.

I work processing insurance for a medical group. US healthcare access is still pretty fucked up, especially in states that didn’t expand Medicaid.

But it was so much worse before the ACA. I grew up without insurance for much of my childhood. You just didn’t get help for stuff. You just prayed the literal suppurating wound on your leg didn’t go systemic and that your out-of-date tetanus shot hadn’t worn off.

I wouldn’t be insurable without the ACA. I would have been uninsured without the “till age 26” the time I almost died. I’d be full on delusional, if not just dead, if it weren’t for the prescription and behavioral health coverage that the ACA mandates for most plans. I live, not by my own choice, in a state that bans abortion; thanks to the ACA, I have free birth control so I don’t have to worry “what if a rapist gets me pregnant” when I walk home alone at night.

I could be better. I’m trying to go back to school to make it better. But it used to be so much worse.

I am so stoked for extra essek content but i kind of hope that the traitor thing isnt like outright revealed early on because I think the bombshell drop of who the traitor is later is so fucking hype.

Like i hope he has a cloak covering him or something to keep things ambiguous while showing the dealings with the Assembly. I hope its ambiguous enough that you can piece it together if youre paying attention but if youre not then its still mindblowing. I was in the audience during the liveshow when it happened and the hundreds of gasps around me was unreal, I hope non-critters will be able to enjoy it the same!
