Queerly Beloved

@the-queer-and-beloved

A queer positivity blog, created for people who identify with the word queer in any shape of way. Some people use queer as a general term for themselves to cover all of their identities, while some may use queer as a specific label. Whatever the reason, we are here to spread positivity for you. Do not tag our posts/reblogs from us with "q slur". Please use "q word" "queer" or "q power" instead. If you think it has to be tagged as q slur, then just don't reblog it.

Hey all, my ex-college just fired one of the RDs for having pronouns in her email signature and speaking up that they were closing the Multicultural center & further pushing away students of color.

It's getting some traction on Twitter but hasn't made its way to TikTok so it would be wonderful if people could share there or engage with current videos about it.

Raegan,

You previously tendered your resignation advising that you did not intend to return next year. However, as a result of your refusal to remove pronouns in your email signature in violation of institutional policy, and false and defamatory statements attributed to you in the recent Star article, please be advised of the following:

  • You are being relieved of your duties effective immediately.
  • Your email and network access will be terminated immediately.
  • All keys (other than your personal apartment) and University property (laptop, credit card, etc) must be turned in to Marc Smithers immediately.
  • You may not use any institutional social media account you may have access to.
  • All remaining contractual salary will be paid on May 19th.
  • Health and other insurance benefits will cease May 31.
  • You will vacate your apartment by the end of the day on May 19th.
  • Your presence on campus should be limited to your apartment, to get your mail, and to get meals in the dining hall on a "to go" basis only. If you wish to be in any other parts of campus, permission must be recieved from Marc Smithers.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Nancy Stanley

Associate Director of Human Resources

Linked above is the article the letter refers to. I've quoted the relevant passages below.

"Womenā€™s Area Coordinator Raegan Zelaya remarks that while she understands the reasoning behind closing the Mosaic Center, Houghtonā€“as an institutionā€“canā€™t claim to value diversity if we arenā€™t doing everything we can to safeguard and develop it.

'If anything,' Zelaya writes, 'it feels like it just further demonstrates that the university is only interested in the kinds of diversity that are convenient for marketing purposes. It is outrageous to have diversity as a pillar in our strategic plan when we are actively cutting the programs and spaces that help empower diverse students to succeed.'"

Absolutely love chipping a tooth and then finding out my dental insurance doesn't cover the main issue.

Any time I think my husband and I could possibly be making somewhere in our savings, some major issue happens.

$1300, not including all the other work which will be like another $300-400.

Dental is a scam and I hate everything

I have until 2/4/2023 to figure out how I'm going to pay for the $1,300 charge. My husband is a teacher & is going to pick up a couple of extra detention duties at school but I work at a non-profit so I don't have the option to pick up any more shifts... so I guess I will work on raising money any way I can.

Etsy Shop (pride, cottagecore, and bookish stickers, candles, and shirts)*

Poshmark (clothes, willing to bundle)

Mercari (bookish items & special editions, willing to negotiate prices just send an offer)

Redbubble (I make the least from this but seriously anything helps)

Queer Books (if you purchase through my affiliate link, I can make a small commission)

*if you live outside of the US & don't want to pay the ridiculous shipping prices, contact me on Tumblr or Instagram so I can sell the items off of Etsy. This is true for Poshmark & Mercari as well because I can sell them directly to you without taking a cut from these sites.

Thank you to anyone who donates or reblogs, or who has helped in the past. I really appreciate you all.

$0/$1300

How to Use the Queer Book Master List

I have created a master list of queer fiction books which can be sorted and filtered by your preferences.Ā  However, many have asked how to use it - so I have created a quick guide below!

This is not like google sheets - any filters you create will only be shown to you and will disappear when you exit that screen. So feel free to mess around! I promise you wonā€™t ruin anything.

Step 1: Open the database

Step 2: Select the ā€œCreate Your Own Filterā€ view on the left-hand side.

Step 3: Click ā€œfilterā€ on the top bar.

Step 4: Input any filters you would like to organize the files by. The screen will automatically update with books that fit into all of your specifications.

Reminder, if you think I am missing a book, there is also a submission link where I can review & add to the main list!

I know I donā€™t have all of the indie & self-published authors, so if youā€™ve written a queer book, feel free to add it! Any information will at least give me a starting point.Ā

Queer chevron flag redesign

A redesign of the originalĀ queer chevronĀ flag. I know thereā€™s been a million redesigns of this flag but I just wanted to make my own. Iā€™m calling it the lavender queer flag.Ā

And before anyone saysĀ ā€œbut the point of the chevrons was so that the lines arenā€™t straight because straight people arenā€™t queer!!!ā€: straight trans (transhet) people, multigender people who are partially straight, abro people who sometimes straight, straight a-spec people, genderfluid/flux people who areĀ  sometimes straight, and people who use the split attraction model (SAM) and are therefore only partially straight, exist and can call themselves queer.Ā

Also the chevrons are a design nightmare for me, especially since Iā€™m currently trying to make flag splices and barcode headers. I might even replace the gray stripes with white if they donā€™t contrast enough with the purple.

(Flag ID: A flag with 5 horizontal stripes. The stripes are light gray, lavender, gray, a dark purple, and a darker gray.)

I identify as queer because itā€™s all-encompassing. I can use it without constantly second guessing whether Iā€™m attracted to this or that or the other or both or one or neither or any number of combinations, or what type of attraction it is. Iā€™m not straight, which means Iā€™m queer, and I donā€™t have to worry about changing my labels to fit what I think I feel at any given time. Am I gay? Bi? Ace? Pan? Aro-spec? Doesnā€™t matter, because regardless, Iā€™m *Queer.*

Anonymous asked:

Star from Star Vs The Forces of Evil is queercoded as bi. Jackie is pan and has a girlfriend from France named Chloe. On Craig of the Creek, the witches of the creek are implied/coded to be dating. And from Star Wars, common headcanons are Rey aspec, Finn bi, Poe gay. I personally ship Rey x Finn x Poe.

Thank you for these wonderful answers

Here's some queer book characters!

I wrote the character's full name if I knew/remembered it. A lot of these are high fantasy where specific labels don't exist, and some the author just didn't say, so I used umbrella terms for those, supplying specifics when I could. If I put * it means that the author has confirmed the exact label (not in a Dumbledore way, as in someone asked the author if a character was bi and she stated she wrote him as pan for example).

I might come back with more later if I remember.
