So y’all, it has been *deep breath* a minute since I’ve been on here and updating stories. Why am I back? I have no idea what got me out of my funk, but I AM BACK and ~~almost~~ finished with this fic! It’s been sitting on my computer for MONTHS and I only had a few things to add to it and I never got around to finishing it. Until today.

This chapter is dedicated to my darling friend @lacyjaybird who turns 24 today. I’m pretty sure it’s still July 9th in Tennessee - it’s hard to remember the time change since I’ve been in so many different ones this year!

The professor dismissed class, and Kagome waited anxiously for her midterm results. She thought that maybe, if she were lucky, she could pull out a B- for her midterm.

“Higurashi!” The TA called.

Kagome took the paper from her instructor’s hand, and slowly turned the page over.

Frantically, Kagome asked the TA, “Is this number out of 50?”

The TA just glared at Kagome. “No. It’s out of 100, like all percentages.”

It was a foreign sound, but loud enough nonetheless. What the hell was making such a racket? Also, was that a woman’s voice he heard?

Inuyasha raised his head from the pillow and should have noticed something wrong immediately—the mass of silky black hair falling over his head—but grogginess delayed his perception. Instead he noticed the sheets; pink flowers and pale pink pillows that smelled like lavender. Definitely not where he remembered falling asleep, but where he was could be ironed out once that obnoxious ringing stopped.

Earthshake:  COMPLETE:: Canon:: *WINNER BEST DARK/DRAMA 2009* Natural Disasters are nothing to laugh at… and so Kagome realizes as she’s trapped, hundreds of feet beneath the rubble of what was once her school, with her classmates dying one by one, and absolutely no hope of rescue.

Mellow:  Kagome decides to question Inuyasha about something she has been curious about for a while— what exactly did she smell like? Without a straight answer, she proceeds to ask the rest of her youkai friends in an attempt to understand how youkai, and more importantly, Inuyasha, work.

Fifth Period:  Mirsan. AU. Oneshot. / Every time she comes into the nurse’s office during fifth period is a treat. She is fire and strength and emotion, and his first thought when she walks through the door is that she’s hot. The second is that she could probably beat him up.

Tuesday:  She knew how to work a coffee pot, honestly. She did. There had to be something wrong with the machine. Kagome frowned as she mashed the brew button for the twentieth time. “You’re wasting your time,” said a rough voice behind her. She winced; she knew exactly who it belonged to.

A Different Kind of Family:  “Your brother. Sesshoumaru— Cruel, cold-hearted, pretentious demon extraordinaire—travels the countryside with an eight year old little girl. You don’t find it the least bit strange?” Kagome and the gang ponder how Sesshoumaru came to travel with a little girl while reflecting on the construction of their own makeshift family.

Speed Dating For Dummies:  One scheming mother, one reluctant daughter, and twenty hopeful men. It all adds up to a very uncomfortable evening for one Higurashi Kagome. AU

Savvy by xbitternessx (NSFW) I. LOVE. THIS. FIC. I cannot believe I didn’t add this the first time around!! Omg I must have read this…I don’t even know, but I do know I’ve read it more than Sueric’s fics!! God this story is completely underappreciated and it’s under the radar because not many people scour Mediaminer that much anymore. Please, please, PLEASE do yourself a favor and read this! 

Sachi by Quillwing717 (NSFW) Alright let’s be serious. Who hasn’t read this amazing masterpiece? It has everything; an original, captivating plot line, fantastic grammar, romance, some cute moments, some steam to balance it out, bit o’ action, and it’s even got some funny points to it. Oh, and the chapters are gloriously long. Quillwing is amazingly talented, and I wish she had more works to read! 

Light Me A Lantern by @inuyashasforest (LittlestTrainWreck) Oh my heart. This…this story. It hurts so good lmao that sounds so wrong i’m sorry and what I mean by that is there is angst, but it’s the kind where it has you on the edge of your seat, reading raptly, wishing you could read even faster beCAUSE YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT RIGHT NOW DAMMIT. You sympathize with the characters, you feel what they’re feeling, you find yourself wanting to help them, and that my friend, is what marks a great story.

Tall Tails by vivaciousWordsmith (They have a tumblr under the same name, but I believe it’s nothing Inuyasha related.) This story is a hidden gem, somehow flying under the radar and it deserves a lot more recognition that it receives! If you love that trope where Inuyasha turns into a dog, then this is the story for you. Don’t worry though; this one is a little different from the norm, with turns that you definitely don’t expect, and I’ll just say this: that old saying that Inuyasha and Kagome fight like cats and dogs has never been more true. ;D

The Phoenix Blade: Time Lapse and The Price by Fenikkusuken (Both are NSFW) Fenik has the amazing talent of using Japanese cultures and customs into her fics, and the end result truly leaves you impressed and slightly awed. The way she interweaves little plot devices that you think aren’t important, but later end up being a huge part of the plot, is astounding. Everything ties so well together and flows beautifully in her stories; they’re truly a work of art. She also has tons of oneshots, but be warned, these few I recommend are all very NSFW:  One Hundred Thousand Lifetimes, With This Ring, The Score, StarDust,  Body Language, and Wallflower.

Dead Famous by Torenza  If you haven’t read this story then what even are you doing with your life. This story has the most reviews on FFNet for an InuKag fic. (Sadly the fic that has the most reviews in the IY fandom alone is a sesskag, barf) I shit you not. Don’t believe me? Look for yourself. Filter the results by sort: Reviews, and Rating: M and the very first story that pops up is this one. Do it. I’m not lying. Torenza, formerly known as Rozefire, is out of this world. Honestly I recommend all of her stories, but my favorites are The Price of Freedom, 28 Days, Bottled Genius, Soul Exchange and Life Exchange (Sequel to Soul Exchange)

The World Through His Eyes by The Purple Ghost Lessee, I’ve read this fic probably….oh, as many times as I’ve read all of Sueric’s fics. Which is a lot. It’s got fluff (obvi a requirement lmao), humor, some action, new characters that you can’t help but like, and even a satisfying amount of MirSan cuteness. 

Playing With Fire by FrameofMind Ohhh lawd do I love this story. Sometimes when the mood strikes, there is nothing I love more than a fiery, sassy Kagome giving as good as she gets and putting cocky, pig-headed Inuyasha in his place and boy, lemme tell you, this fic does it justice! Another story by this author I recommend is Alter Ego, Good Dog

Stolen by Discord1 (NSFW if I remember correctly) This fic is ongoing, and even though it hasn’t been updated since last year, it’s still definitely worth the read! I honestly don’t think the author hasn’t abandoned it; I think they just haven’t had the time to update. Well it’s a hope at least lol. 

Opacity and Wrong Number Text by L.M. Avalon Lessee, what to say about these two. While Opacity is sadly unfinished, it’s still worth the read because it deal with ghosts, ghouls, and monsters, oh my. It’s your regular Ghostbuster’s au lol (not really of course, but it has its aspects.) Wrong Number Text is pretty adorable with its ups and downs, cute moments, moments that make you want to scream, then laugh with joy. 

You’ve Got Mail by WitchyGirl99  Ugh I can’t BELIEVE I forgot to add this one with the rest of Witchy’s stuff in my last fic rec, so of course I have to add it to this one! This fic is told entirely in emails exchanged between Inuyasha and Kagome. It’s freaking amazing. Witchy manages to catch both of their personalities solely through the text in the emails and it’s just…well. Read and you’ll see lol.

Jungle Hanyou, One night to forever, Leaving Him Hanging, and Captive by LadyCash. (NSFW) Her stories are short, but immensely satisfying!

Breaking the Rules by Jazz the Wolf Demon  An oldie, but goodie! And c’mon, An arranged marriage, that slow burn, and Inuyasha as a doctor? Yes please! 

Dog Skin by sublimetrickster and Thousandfurs by RosieB (Both NSFW) I almost didn’t add these two because this was already sorta long, but then I thought, what the hell, might as well because they’re both note worthy and not like you guys mind anyway lol. So why did I clump these two together? They both are a take on the old Grimms’ fairy tale “Thousandfurs” or “All-Kinds-of-Fur.” Both written exceptionally well, they stick to the plot of the fairy tale fabulously, and they suck you in until you don’t even realize it’s 4 am and you have to get up in two hours for class or work but ONE MORE CHAPTER.

The King’s Mistress by dolphingirl0113 I felt it was a crime to not add this story because reasons. And yeah I’m getting lazy with my commentary lmao. Other works by this author I recommend: Fan Mail, Soul Therapy, Perfectly Flawed

Homesick

“Inuyasha… why don’t you come eat supper with us tonight? The twins would love it.”

He shook his head. “No thanks.”

Sango watched him a moment longer—sitting in his usual cross-legged, cross-armed position, back resting against the wood of the Bone Eater’s Well—then sighed. “How long do you plan to stay out here?”

He shrugged, not looking at her.

Something in Sango’s chest constricted, ached. He’d done this last year, too — the first anniversary of that day.

Sighing again, she closed the short space between them and kneeled down beside him. She clasped her hands in her lap; her gaze remained there when she whispered, “I miss her too.”

He said nothing, though his right ear twitched towards her. Dusk gathered about them, purpling the sky as the sun disappeared below the horizon. They sat together, leaning against the well, for a long time as darkness fell.

Later, when Sango had returned home to her husband and children, Inuyasha still sat against the well.

He tipped his head back to look up at the sky. Overcast. Only pale glimpses of stars between drifts of cloud.

I miss her too.

He knew she did. So did Miroku, and Shippō, and Kaede. They all missed her.

But what Inuyasha felt—and could never explain, never tried to—was more than just missing. More than wishing for a lost friend to return. Because Kagome…

Kagome was his home.

So he sat there, as close as he could get to Kagome now, and struggled to fight off the sense of homelessness that overwhelmed him.

He sat there, homesick, until dawn.
