Jace let the questions pass him by, though he couldn’t have explained why, and truly, it didn’t even occur to him that he had. His attention had always been flighty and brief, and so it wasn’t too unusual for him. He frowned, and his shouldered squared slightly as she hid her face, arms encircling her more securely. The dragon pressed a kiss to her hair, staying there until she pulled back, and looked up at him, his hand brushing her hair back carefully to meet her eyes.
His own face was serious, now, not sad or overly agitated, but concerned and loving. He had left a true friend behind, and now she was hurting. He didn’t say anything for a moment, just his eyes looking into hers, and then he pulled her into his chest again, giving her some space to be upset without being observed. “Tell me everything.” He said, softly, and the levity and frivolity was gone from his voice. It carried a tone now which conveyed each of his almost a thousand years of life, of pain and love and experience. His hand gently stroked her hair, tucking her securely between his elbow and chest, calm and protective.

Eyes that missed little to nothing these days met Jace’s fully, soft and full of compassion. He could get away with the silence, for now. But if something was wrong, she would get it out of him eventually. For now though, she would tell him her own sad tale. And Qhuinn knew, by the tone of his voice and the look in those eyes, that he would not only understand, but not judge her for less than healthy actions. Even with that knowledge, her eyes lowered as she spoke, unable to stand just yet whatever she would see in his face.

“At the end of last summer, I..lost my entire pack. My Clay, and everyone else. My brothers, women..children. All of them were killed by hunters. My..whole family Jace. Gone in an instant, and I wasn’t there to help and fight by their side” Qhuinn had to stop then, swallowing hard. Even with the promise that she had made to Liam and the others, it was obvious that she hadn’t fully let go of that guilt yet. Maybe she never would, maybe it just wasn’t in her to try and learn from it. “I’m sorry, I just..need a minute” She mumbled, tears wetting the front of Jace’s shirt as she struggled to compose herself.

The words hit him, and while he might not have been an empath, he felt her pain. She wouldn’t look at him, and he understood. He’d been away for a while, perhaps longer than he remembered, and she had had to deal with all of this alone. To expose your pain like that to someone was hard, terrifying, even.

The dragon wrapped his arms around her, tightly, and cupped the back of her head, just holding her to him. There wasn’t anything he could do to take the pain away, but he had learned a lot over his years, and he knew of loss, kept each one of his friends, family and lovers he had outlived deep in his heart. The pain never really went away - it was why so many of his kind never ventured into the mortal realm. To lose someone who was a part of yourself was unspeakable.

He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, slowing his breathing and heart rate deliberately. “It’s okay. Take your time. I’m here.” His voice had taken on a lower rumble, unlike his usual chirpy self, and he just held her, breathing into her hair, letting her unravel, if she needed it.

Dhani seemed to be alone, and as far as he could tell, not under any kind of duress. You have changed, young one. The thought was strange, a kind of ancestral memory, a dragon hive mind commenting from outside on his own behaviour, a sharing of knowledge which had allowed them to survive this long, neither his own thought, nor someone else’s. Satisfied, he spread his wings and glided gently down to the rocks next to the pool - mildy surprised to see the human naked - after all, he always seemed to surprise them when he was. He chirped happily, spreading his wings and rearing up in a display which to other dragons expressed a joy in seeing a friend. To Dhani, though, he sent a thought.
Hi! It’s good to see you! I will not swim, but I’m glad you are here!
He punctuated this with a little spin, bounding around, sure-footed and full of energy, before play-bowing right at the edge of the water, tail whipping around behind him. The second thought came almost as a whisper, an after-thought that he expressed without thinking.
Is everything ok?

Dhani smiled, happy that his instinct and thoughts were correct and Jace was here, that blur of motion he’d seen before. He swam to the side of the pool as Jace spoke to him in his mind. Hearing that he wouldn’t swim, Dhani was mildly disappointed but then got out of the pool, water dripping off his body, sticking against dark hair.

He crouched next to the dragon and then sat down, shaking his head, looking a bit curious, “Everything is fine, Jace. I just wanted to surprise you.” He chuckled, “I thought I was being fun and mysterious with that note.”

Image

“Oh, good!” Jace shook himself, and settled next to his friend, stretching out happily. The rocks were warmed from the sun, and he yawned, rolling about a bit. “You did surprise me! I was about to go into detective mode.”

He gazed up at the sky for a moment, thinking, once again, how lucky he was to be able to fly, and then turned his attention back to Dhani. “So what’s up? Have you been doing lots? Having fun? Anything changed since I was away?”

“Damien!” He hadn’t met another Phoenix since the turn of the 13th, so Damien’s was a name that came easily to him. For a moment he considered shifting back and playing chase about the reaches of the sky, but he held back - sort of. He embraced his friend, tightly, bouncing back on his heels.
“Yes! Very much. There’s some really fun updrafts around here and then you can dive off the edge.” He knew his friend would know exactly what he was talking about - similarly sized and gifted with flight, they had an experience of the world that nobody else did. “Did I miss anything fun?”

Damien grinned, as Jace embraced him. The Phoenix couldn’t help himself, and he returned the hug, a happy sigh escaping his lips. It was so nice to have a friend, and Jace was definitely someone he enjoyed the company of. He pulled back just a little bit in order to look at him, cocking his head to the side slightly.

“Oh, just the usual,” he said, shrugging. “But, really, things have been about the same. Some new faces here, some old…But, with you around, I think things can become a lot more fun, if you ask me. I feel as though we should do something..Maybe, go for a flight or two together.”

Jace grinned, nodding in agreement, which turned to excitement at Damien’s suggestion. “Yes! Yes!” In no time at all, he pulled himself away, and jumped into the air, twisting into his dragon form and shooting up away from him, wheeling a big circle in the air, with a delighted, high pitched trill of excitement.

Let’s go now! He made his loops progressively smaller, wings flapping to keep himself on course and off the ground, more like a bat than a dragon at this point. Let’s go let’s go let’s go! There were few things he loved more than flying, the freedom of it, the technical challenge, it was everything.

Though she was disappointed that Simon wasn’t there as well, Qhuinn was overjoyed to hear that he was doing well. And that Lily was still with them. “Lily! Oh how is she doing too? I’m so so glad to hear that you guys are all still together. The cutest family unit ever, if you ask me. Though I am extremely biased and not at all too proud to admit it” She giggled, Holding on to Jace as she was quite happily moved to his lap on the sand. Remus wandered off to do his own pupper thing, soon playing in the surf.
“Yes, yes that’s exactly it. You’re just lucky enough to have caught me on a very rare break” Qhuinn’s laugh wasn’t as genuine this time, pressing her face into his neck for a long moment. She knew that she may as well tell him, that things would be better heard from her than through the proverbial grapevine. “Actually, it’s..been a really rough year Jace. You’ll probably wished you would have stayed with pining for me from afar” Qhuinn started with a weak tease, forcing herself to meet those innocent eyes.

Selene laughed as the man caught her scent, suddenly shifting back into the small dragon he’d flown in as, looping around in the air, completely capturing Selene’s entire attention. She was delighted by the spectacle, watching with bright eyes as he shifted back in front of her, his words coming out like a whirlwind.
“Is that so? Well, I’m hardly surprised, adorable little thing like you.” She says, stepping closer as she tucks some hair behind her ear in an attempt to keep it from blowing too much in the wind. “Hello darling, aren’t you the most precious creature, I’m Selene, it is a pleasure to meet you.” She says, offering her hand to the rambling man, grinning widely.
“Are you new to the Institute, darling? I’m certain I haven’t seen you around before.”

Jace chuckled, blushing slightly, and beamed at her, taking her hand and pressing a kiss to the back of it. “It is lovely to meet you, Selene! That’s a beautiful name for a beautiful woman! And I’m... sort of new. Not really. I was here before... then I left, and now I’m back!” He shrugged, easily, brushing away the questions that pushed against the fringes of his own mind. “I’m getting that from a lot of people. It’s strange to think of how many people came while I was away! A lot of stuff can change in a couple months...” He mused, and then beamed at her again.

“So how long have you been here? And what are you doing here? I’ve never seen a siren here before. I met a few when... well, when I lived with them. She was wonderful. She heard me from so far away! I was... in the middle of the ocean, almost. And dragons... we can’t really get cold, cus... well we fall asleep, which is bad in the ocean.”

Theo had only seen one other dragon before, and not nearly as small as the one that was in front of him. “Whoa,” Theo says in quiet amazement, still just in awe of the supernatural world, even after all this time. Theo’s eyes widen a little in quiet delight when he heard the dragons voice in his head. Theo, being a dryad, wasn’t uncommon with speaking with creatures, though the ones he usually spoke to were a little furrier. His ability to communicate with animals wasn’t always perfect, usually able to connect better with creatures typically found in forests, being a dryad and all, and wasn’t sure if he’d be able to communicate with the dragon. Though, the voice was in his head, it sounded different than they usually did, and it had Theo looking at him with a curious little grin.
“So cute,” he says, giggling as the little dragon nuzzles his hand. Theo gently runs his hand over the dragon’s head gently, carefully lowering himself completely to sit. Theo was careful as he moved his hands, finger tips running over the smooth scales, looking at him in awe. “My name’s Theodore, but most people just call me Theo, what’s your name?” He asks as he gently pets under the small dragon’s chin, watching carefully to the dragons reactions, wanting to be as respectful as possible.
image
Jace continued to lean into the scritches, finding a good spot and letting a full-body shiver to run down his spine, stretching his wings out at an almost unnatural angle behind him, before abruptly flopping onto his back, purring louder than any cat. Nice to meet you Theo! I’m Jace! Very cute is not my name but maybe I should have picked that instead because it is true. He relaxed for a moment, enjoying the pets, and then sniffed at his wrist curiously. What are you? People so often are surprised that I am a dragon even though I could not look more like a dragon if I tried.

He rolled back up to his feet, and then hopped up onto Theo’s shoulders, sniffing him more, curiously, though he was careful to keep every part of himself out of the water. He kept his claws away from him as best he could - it wasn’t like he wasn’t used to balancing on shoulders, after all. Simon had got used to him doing this- His entire body froze for a moment, as a flood of memories tried to rush through his mind, and then was redirected, and then it was as if nothing had happened. Have you been here for long? I was hunting.

“Ooooh aye I can relate tae that. Who didna struggle with technology though?” She could remember the first time she turned on a computer… and got so confused with it she ended up smashing it against the wall. Good times.
Watching him act this way made Booker realize that she’d spent way too much time away from other dragons apparently. She had a more feral side but she kept it well hidden away thanks to all her time spent around humans. It was almost like she was starting to forget what she was… well, if you take away the possessiveness. “Ye dinna have tae worry about any dogs in ma house, even if ye like them now, am more of a cat lady. Keepin’ up the lesbian stereotype and all.” The dragon giggled as they finally arrived to her place, and opened the door so he could come in first and take a look. The house in itself was a bit like a castle inside and out, but the backyard was the best part of the place. “We can go fishing one of these days, though I tend tae go fer sharks rather than actual fish in ma real form… but we can share! Shark is tasty as hell.” And almost as soon as she finished saying that, Alejo came over. The andean bear had grown considerably and was the size of an average teenaged bear now, the curious animal began to sniff Jace up and down immediately.
image
Jace nodded appreciatively at her declaration of herself as a cat person. He’d always been more of a cat fan, and there were some fears that even as a dragon you couldn’t let go of. The fear had eased, certainly, and he was comfortable now around dogs he knew, but still preferred not to be around them.

Jace looked around her home carefully - his subspecies was matriarchal and if you were invited to another’s nest, it was customary to be careful. Females had their dens, the mating and young-raising nest building was left to the males, and was what would determine if a male who wished to mate would be able to. “Your home is very beautiful.” He purred softly in his chest, lifting his nose to scent the place out. “I would for sure eat shark! I don’t think I’ve eaten shark before, but I am very old. We should go hunting! Fishing.” He frowned, but was immediately distracted by the arrival of the bear. He squatted down immediately, so Alejo could smell him over properly, and huffed into his face himself, swapping scents as a greeting. “Look at you! You are so handsome, yes you are!”

The Return || Open

Jace let out a shriek of delight as he looped over the island. His wings tilted back just a little, the front edges lifting a hair, and he soared higher, before tucking in and diving, the ground rushing up at him, and then abruptly falling away as he looped, once, twice, letting out another shriek which he knew would be heard the island over. He was back! The memories had bloomed in his head, but for now, he was ignoring them. The true nature of the island, of how he and Simon had met… it was in the past, and it was staying there. Firmly.
He did a barrel roll between two buildings, narrowly missing some students, shrieking again as they ducked, and then opened his wings, controlling his flight easily, flapping once, twice, slowing himself. He looked about for a spot to land, slowly coming in on top of the pile of clothes he had dumped on the beach, transforming before he hit the ground, the distance judged with a precision that came with hundreds of years of practise. He huffed out a breath, ruffling his hair, feeling good from the exertion, and glanced up, suddenly aware he had an audience. “Hi!”

Milo couldn’t help but watch the dragon as he moved about in the air. He was making a scene after all. But uncharacteristically, Milo was not annoyed by this. No if anything, he was entertained by it. He continued to watch and he let a rare smile appear on his lips as he crossed his arms over his chest. What a sight it was to watch and for once, Milo could say he was in a good mood.

When Jace stopped and transformed, Milo chuckled a little at the greeting. “Hello,” he said with a light smile. He rubbed the back of his neck a bit and smirked slightly. “Enjoying yourself, I see,” he said.

Jace beamed - here was a face he recognised, though he wasn’t sure if he’d spoken to the man before. Everything was a little hazy...

“Yes! Flying is the best thing in the world. I feel sorry for people with no wings, actually. If I was bigger I would take you for a flight but I’m not.” The dragon looked Milo over more carefully, and very appreciatively. “Are you a guard?” That might have been when he’d seen him. That thought occurred to him, but the circumstances it referred to came back blank. He dismissed it, quickly. “Or maybe a model? Or both? You could be.” He grinned hungrily, and then scrubbed his hands through his hair, which was longer than he’d had it in a while.

Jace elbowed Dominick gently at the teasing, but didn’t duck out from under his arm. “Not too much. Flew around a lot. Had some dragon time.” His mind was actually a little vague about what he had been doing. For someone usually so engaged in the world around him, it was strange, but really, he didn’t want to examine it too closely. “Scared some rabbits. Caught a goose! Ate the goose. What about you, Mister Dominick? Any naughtiness you have been up to. Probably lots.”
image
“An entire goose?” He asked. “I stopped eating goose, it reminds me too much of those gees in that cartoon. Remember? They are far too funny to be eaten.” He said laughing out loud at the thought of those goose wandering around. “Oh you know me. Naughty is my second name.  I love seeking the pleasures and sins of this island. I wouldn’t say lots… but I’d say..” He left that sentence there, with a dirty smile on his face and a casual shrug of shoulders. “So… what you wanna do for your first day back?”
Image

The reference passed Jace by, but he wasn’t phased - that happened a lot, he had a lot of history to keep in his brain, after all. “Have you found lots of innocent souls to corrupt?” He asked, batting his eyelashes at Dominick. “Or have you found a special someone?” The dragon gasped, putting a hand to his chest in mock shock. “Mr Dominick settling down?” He grinned, and nudged against his friend’s side. “I haven’t really thought about it. I suppose I could see if...” He seemed to lose his train of thought mid-sentence - he’d been going to suggest something, he was sure of that, but what had it been? Chased away by the glimpse of a flash of scales high against the sky, the thought was gone, and he rolled with it. “Uhhh. Oh! I wanna eat for sure! I...” Suddenly, he realised how hungry he was. “I feel like it was a long flight here.” He wasn’t sure exactly how long, or why he couldn’t remember, but again, he let it go.

Jace just laughed at her embarrassment - he wasn’t exactly shy, and nobody had ever called him vain. He was also old enough to have stopped really caring what people thought about him. “Griff was also pretty picky.” His energy dipped a little, and his eyes softened, as he nodded - they had been close. “He was very slow. Everything about him was… like… a glacier moving. Slow, so calm and so unstoppable. He was… a nice place to be.” Jace gave her a slow blink, and then perked up again. “Oh, really? Yes! Yesyesyes! Very much. I promise I will be very nice and hopefully he will like me.” He couldn’t believe his new dragon friend had a bear friend - but the world was funny that way, sometimes.
image
Booker was kinda glad he didn’t seem offended by her comment, dragons really got to her head. Then, she did notice that slight shift in his mood again. He was super cheery but clearly something was bothering him, at least Booker could understand that feeling. “What kinda bear was he? Sounds like a sloth.” Booker chuckled softly as she tried to imagine the very slow and calm shifter. “Well, unfortunately mine is like… a ball of energy that drank five Red Bull’s, but he’s nice if he likes ye.” Booker was excited to bring him to her home and show him Alejo, maybe that could cheer him up. “There’s only one way tae find out!” Booker then turned around and began to walk back to her place. This… this wasn’t so bad, at all, he wasn’t like the Bluefires, he was actually kind of sweet and she liked it. “Any other animals ye like? I’ve got wee Pygmy goats, bunnies and chickens at home too… they are pretty tasty too.” She let out a laugh and glanced at him.
image

Jace laughed openly at the description of Griff, and shook his head. “He was a grizzly bear! And sometimes a grizzly human shaped bear, especially when he had to use technology. Though I remember being like that when stuff like phones came around!”

Jace bounded at her side, falling in to her left and just slightly behind, a combination of his species being matriarchal and his military training making it instinctual. “I like a lot of animal! Not murderbeasts though. Dogs.” He added, darkly. “I got hunted by dogs over and over for a while. They couldn’t get through my skin, obviously, but they did rip my wing out of its... joint.” He gestured to where it would be, were he in dragon form. “And they kept me so cold I couldn’t just fry them.” He bared his teeth, instinct kicking in again, and then he shook it off, though he was slow to brighten. “I am not so scared of them any more.” The thought of his own dog brushed at the edge of his mind, but was swiftly chased away by the sound of wings and the snap of teeth, protective and swift, Jace barely aware the thought had occurred to him. “I like bunnies and goats a lot, fish is my favourite though.”

Come Alone || Dhani + Jace

@dhanilyman
[anonymous letter in Dhani’s handwriting] Jace, meet me at the waterfall. Come alone. - xoxo

Jace sniffed the letter cautiously, reading it a couple of times. He was a little older now - not much, by dragon standards, but experience mattered more. Still, it smelled like Dhani. He took wing, a bundle clutched in his claws, surfing the updraft for a little while, slow and contemplative, before spiralling down to the waterfall. Come alone? Strange, though maybe his friend was a little more cautious now, too.

He alighted at the very top, instead of down where the falls met the water below, where he assumed Dhani would meet him, and crept to the edge, black scales blending with the volcanic rock of the island - this was much like where he had grown up, if a little cooler. He peered over, keeping low, wanting to make sure there was nothing strange afoot.

Dhani slipped out from behind the waterfall, as quietly as he possibly could seeing the blur of movement. But Jace wasn’t at the pool or the slate rock and area surrounding it. He slipped into the water, sure he had seen some kind of movement, high in the torrent of water. Dhani swam out further into the pool, looking towards the top of the waterfall, but he couldn’t see anything. He was naked, except for the pale grey collar, obvious against his tanned brown skin that he had been claimed since Jace had been away. He wasn’t afraid of getting caught by the wrong person. Quinten protected him well enough and there was hardly anyone that had it out for him anymore. Besides he wanted to welcome Jace back to the island properly. He missed the horny little dragon and he was eager to hear how Simon had been since leaving, as well.

Fanciful Creatures || Theo & Jace

With his arms and legs outstretched, Theo floated along the surface of the water, the sound of the the waterfall hitting the rocky pond muffled and gurgling in his submerged ears. When he’d left the island, his relationship with water had been severely severed, but with much work and his love for swimming, by the time he’d returned, he thankfully felt at ease with it once again. The waterfall had always been one of his favourite places on the island, and he’d already found himself sneaking off between classes for a quick dip whenever he could, enjoying the new found freedom of being a master. Flipping himself over, he did a few laps before swimming to the edge and pulling himself out, reaching for the towel that he’d stuffed into his backpack to dry off. He was rubbing the towel over his shaggy hair, noting that it was really starting to get in his eyes and maybe he’d need to get it cut soon when he heard a rustling in the trees.

Jumpy by nature, Theo’s heart picked up a little, and he had to quietly remind himself that he was allowed to be here. “Hello?” He calls out tentatively as he hears more rustling, and takes a few steps towards the sound, peering into the trees. The rustling grew louder and closer and very suddenly a small dragon bounded out from the trees. Stunned, Theo stared for a moment in awe and wonder. He’d met a few dragons when he’d been on the island before, and had even seen one in this form, but never quite this small. A little smile spreads on his lips as he watches the small dark creature.

“Hi.” He says, immediately crouching and reaching out a hand to offer the dragon with zero hesitation like he would with any other animal in that forest. Should he maybe be more cautious around a dragon? Probably. But Theo couldn’t help it–this little creature was adorable. “Hey there, hi, I’m Theo–you’re so cute, look at you.” He says softly with a grin.

@jaceconflagratio

There was good hunting near the river - lots of little creatures taking advantage of the swarms of insects and lush greenery. He’d managed to stockpile some snacks for later, he’d left himself a small pile which he would take to Qhuinn later, for making into snacks for him, and for her murderbeast. He wanted some fish, and he had managed to grab a couple of little minnows from the shallows, but he wasn’t about to get more adventurous without a bear keeping watch.

Landing in the branch of a tree, he folded his wings, pausing to reach back and pull a bit of twig out of the leathery folds, shaking them gently, and making his way along the branch, hopping and gliding to the next, almost vanishing in the dappled light, dark scales against dark trees. He investigated here and there, tail making his movements blend in.

He stalked a bird for a while, quiet and patient, green lamplight eyes focused on it, but as full as he was, he lost interest after a while, and he circled back around to the waterfall - a much nicer way to have a bath for a dragon who wasn’t a fan of water - never mind actually being submerged in it.

He cooled himself in the spray for a while, basking in the sun, and then heard someone else. He crept closer, hopping from branch to branch, and as the stranger smiled, Jace chirped happily, perking up and moving to him, fluidly, plopping onto the rocks and nuzzling into his hand delightedly, projecting his voice into his head. I am very cute!

Damien couldn’t help himself. He had been admiring Jace from afar, in his own Phoenix form. He didn’t intrude on his fun, but when Jace landed, he was curious. He flew over, and landed just a little ways away from him. He wasn’t sure how he would be greeted, after all. He never assumed that everyone would be excited to see him.

But, that changed with Jace’s greeting. So, Damien ruffled his feathers a bit, and transformed, himself. He grinned at the other man, chuckling a little bit. “Hey!” he said, excitement in his own voice. “How are you? Enjoying your flight? And, welcome back. It’s good to see a friendly face.”

He hadn’t been expecting this level of exuberance, but he couldn’t help laughing, expression just a little bit surprised but very amused. “Nice to meet you, still-growing-Jace. I’m Noah. And I did,” he said, and then, laughing again, clarified, “See The Hobbit, I mean. It was fun. Hot dwarves, wizards, I was into it. Though I reckon I’d understand why people were scared, if they thought all dragons were of the Smaug variety. He was kind of a prick. Not a good look. The real ones I’ve met weren’t such assholes.
Though his head turned to watch with one eyebrow slightly raised as Jace came closer, attention apparently caught by Noah’s wings, he did not stop him, or turn away from it. His wings had taken more of a beating than he liked recently, as evidenced by twin scars on each of them, one clearly older than the other. He’d have been wary of letting anyone unknown get close to them except that Jace decidedly did not seem like someone likely to go trying to tear one off. It was the compliment that swayed him in the end–Noah was nothing if not vain, so he nodded, expression a little bit pleased, and shifted slightly, allowing more access to his wings. “If you like, darlin’. They’re sneaky sharp near the bottom, mind your fingers,” he warned. “And I don’t know, to answer your question. I’ve never checked. Reckon I could cut off my arm or something and look, but that sounds awful gross, and painful, and I ain’t that committed to science. All I know is I’ve only just mastered ‘landing not crashing.’”

“Don’t cut your arm off.” Jace murmured, as he gently pushed his hands into the smaller feathers on Noah’s wings, slow and careful, luxuriating in the feel. “Woah. I always wanted feathers. Well, not always. Sometimes. But they feel and look so nice and... cosy. But then I wouldn’t be waterproof.” He kept feeling, careful not to disturb the feathers too much, just enjoying himself, his eyes on Noah’s wings as he spoke, almost murmuring to himself. “Also the hobbits broke into his house and stole his stuff and woke him up from hibernation! I bet you would be mad if someone did that.” His hands wandered briefly to Noah’s back, and that seemed to shake him out of it a little. He straightened and moved back around.

“Nice to meet you, Noah! You weren’t here last time. When I was here. There was another reaper, I.. think. Maybe.” He racked his brain for a moment and then just as quickly gave up. “But I would have remembered your face. How long have you been here? And how come you’re here?”

“Aaaah.” The dragon watched him wide eyed as he screamed into existence, and then buried her face between her hands. “This is why people think we’re all vain as hell!!!” The dragon complained.
Booker slowly brought her face out of between her hands, he seemed to be done with the yelling for now at least. “I mean, aye, there’s rules, the outside world also has laws but people break them anyway.” The dragon said with a shrug. The redhead’s eyes began to widen more and more as he laid out his plans for the bear sandwich, and she realized that maybe introducing him to Eddie would create far too much chaos in the island. “We can try it if Alejo decides he likes ye, but he’s a picky man.” Booker warned. The dragon then frowned as she tried to think about anyone named Griff, no… she couldn’t remember any Griff from here. “I dinna ken a lot of people so am probably the wrong person tae ask, but no, I guess I would’ve heard the name before. Am sorry.” She said. “Sounds like ye two were close.” She added softly. “… wanna meet my baby bear boy?”

Everything about him was... like... a glacier moving. Slow, so calm and so unstoppable. He was... a nice place to be.” Jace gave her a slow blink, and then perked up again. “Oh, really? Yes! Yesyesyes! Very much. I promise I will be very nice and hopefully he will like me.” He couldn’t believe his new dragon friend had a bear friend - but the world was funny that way, sometimes.

Dominick was a bit taken aback from that hug, but he smiled after all and he heart warmed up by that touch of affection. “Ah yes you are right. See when I saw you arriving I said to myself Oh my god, a lizard! What’s next, a ladybug?” He said chuckling. “But thankfully, you will be able to finally teach me and I will no longer call a dragon lizard.” Keeping him under his arm, Dominick began to take a walk with him. “So now that you are here, tell me. What did you do in the past months? I am very curious about what troubles a dragon such as yourself would fall into.”
